I think it was the word "boring" that crossed the line... and I think the real issue is that the Undertaker's promo was indeed boring. As he said, he "kicked the Undertaker while he was down." A week before this, the Rock was cutting an entertaining promo when Y2J debuted. Jericho called the Rock boring but as far as I know didn't get any backstage heat. ________________ I remember when Roman Reigns and John Cena had a contract signing for a match back in like 2016. Roman forgot his lines... Cena pounced and said, "It's called a promo, Roman. If you want to be the 'big dog', you're gonna have to learn how to do it." In that case it was the veteran kicking the newer guy while he was down. Reigns was genuinely struggling and Cena embarrassed him further.

It's always a thrill when Reliving the War covers an episode that you attended. I attended the Raw after King of the Ring 1998 in Cleveland. This channel covered that sometime last year and it brought back so many memories.

This was the very first episode of RAW I ever watched, 10 years old. Completely by accident too, my brother just happened to flick over the channel when the Mankind promo was playing and we both thought it was so mental looking that we never flicked it back over.

I had that. I liked it because I hadn't seen that match to that point despite watching WCW when it was on. And it was pretty good. I think they just put it on there to give Kidman a little more love because I think he only has one other match on it
in hindsight, they could've made the WWF title match a fatal four-way: Stone Cold, HHH, Foley, Chyna. You could still have Mick winning and plant the seeds for Chyna to turn against Triple H to make the split more clearer than it was in real life.

Jericho's WWE debut was when I first started watching wrestling. I remember it very clearly. I was in middle school, specifically 6th grade. And I remember feeling left out because all the other boys were quoting The Rock and I had no idea what they were talking about. It was always during gym class so I thought they were talking about basketball, mainly because back then the ball was also called the rock as in "pass me the rock". 😅

This is a very special Raw for me. I was the biggest Taker mark in the world at the time. This Raw, THIS Raw was the when I realized the man was fallible and maybe not the best promo in the world...
From what I remember, the reason for the crazy booking on RAW was because someone backstage threw cold water on the idea of Chyna in a main event title match (prob. Austin). They went back to the Triple H idea but Stone Cold didn't want to do the J.O.B. to HHH, so they had to figure out a way to insert Mankind into the title picture to serve as a transitional champion.
The problem with that rumor is HHH faced and beat Austin at No Mercy 99. I could see the Chyna stuff being true, but why would Stone Cold refuse to put over HHH at Summerslam but have no problem with it barely two months later?
@@PhenomsServant4 I guess HHH was more established as a main eventer by that time. Not 100% sure about that. Edit: Stone Cold was written out by Survivor Series. That was a month later.
It was around this time that McMahon was getting frustrated with Russo's booking. This would lead to a few significant changes that no doubt Reliving the War will soon cover.
Remember when Reliving the War was a strict and cold analysis of both shows? I love seeing the show get running gags and humor. I wonder what joke began the evolution of the show’s humor.

Oh man, I remember being a kid in Minnesota when summerslam came to town in 1999. Mick Foley was at Target Greatland (the pre-curser to Super Target) signing autographs and the line went around the whole store. I told my dad we had to wait in that long ass line and we did for about 20 minutes and it never moved. My dad said “come on bud we gotta go” I was crushed. I would have loved to meet Mick even though Austin was my guy at the time. Then our governor the great Jesse the body Ventura was the referee for the match. Good times!😅
This was the last episode of Raw before I left for college (fortunately all the dorms had cable so I never missed an episode). I remember it for two things: 1. The Undertaker's legendary promo 2. Jamming 3 months of #1 contender switches into a 2 hour show. Good times. Vince Russo was firing on all cylinders for this one.
HHH was in a hog farm match, had his first real loss when he tapped out to Bret's Sharpshooter on Raw 1996, was squashed by Warrior, lost to Chyna, lost to Benoit in an Iron Man match, lost three times in the Undertaker streak, and lost at Wrestlemania to Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns. 16 years in WWE before going part-time in 2012. He had long title runs in 2002-2004 era, but he generally traded wins and losses pretty evenly throughout his main event runs. I'll give him credit for that.
After listening to the Undertaker's ramblings, people still make fun of the Warrior's promo when he premiered in WCW? Jericho saved that horrendous promo.

Oh man, I remember being a kid in Minnesota when summerslam came to town in 1999. Mick Foley was at Target Greatland (the pre-curser to Super Target) signing autographs and the line went around the whole store. I told my dad we had to wait in that long ass line and we did for about 20 minutes and it never moved. My dad said “come on bud we gotta go” I was crushed. I would have loved to meet Mick even though Austin was my guy at the time. Then our governor the great Jesse the body Ventura was the referee for the match. Good times!😅
This was the last episode of Raw before I left for college (fortunately all the dorms had cable so I never missed an episode).
I remember it for two things:
1. The Undertaker's legendary promo
2. Jamming 3 months of #1 contender switches into a 2 hour show.
Good times. Vince Russo was firing on all cylinders for this one.
HHH was in a hog farm match, had his first real loss when he tapped out to Bret's Sharpshooter on Raw 1996, was squashed by Warrior, lost to Chyna, lost to Benoit in an Iron Man match, lost three times in the Undertaker streak, and lost at Wrestlemania to Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns. 16 years in WWE before going part-time in 2012. He had long title runs in 2002-2004 era, but he generally traded wins and losses pretty evenly throughout his main event runs. I'll give him credit for that.
After listening to the Undertaker's ramblings, people still make fun of the Warrior's promo when he premiered in WCW?
Jericho saved that horrendous promo.
