    • @TheSBleeder
      @TheSBleeder 6 месяцев назад +3

      I think it was the word "boring" that crossed the line... and I think the real issue is that the Undertaker's promo was indeed boring. As he said, he "kicked the Undertaker while he was down."
      A week before this, the Rock was cutting an entertaining promo when Y2J debuted. Jericho called the Rock boring but as far as I know didn't get any backstage heat.
      ________________
      I remember when Roman Reigns and John Cena had a contract signing for a match back in like 2016.
      Roman forgot his lines... Cena pounced and said, "It's called a promo, Roman. If you want to be the 'big dog', you're gonna have to learn how to do it."
      In that case it was the veteran kicking the newer guy while he was down. Reigns was genuinely struggling and Cena embarrassed him further.

    From what I remember, the reason for the crazy booking on RAW was because someone backstage threw cold water on the idea of Chyna in a main event title match (prob. Austin). They went back to the Triple H idea but Stone Cold didn't want to do the J.O.B. to HHH, so they had to figure out a way to insert Mankind into the title picture to serve as a transitional champion.

    • @PhenomsServant4
      @PhenomsServant4 6 месяцев назад +1

      The problem with that rumor is HHH faced and beat Austin at No Mercy 99. I could see the Chyna stuff being true, but why would Stone Cold refuse to put over HHH at Summerslam but have no problem with it barely two months later?

    • @rdrouynriv
      @rdrouynriv 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@PhenomsServant4 I guess HHH was more established as a main eventer by that time. Not 100% sure about that.
      Edit: Stone Cold was written out by Survivor Series. That was a month later.

    Oh man, I remember being a kid in Minnesota when summerslam came to town in 1999. Mick Foley was at Target Greatland (the pre-curser to Super Target) signing autographs and the line went around the whole store. I told my dad we had to wait in that long ass line and we did for about 20 minutes and it never moved. My dad said “come on bud we gotta go” I was crushed. I would have loved to meet Mick even though Austin was my guy at the time. Then our governor the great Jesse the body Ventura was the referee for the match. Good times!😅

    This was the last episode of Raw before I left for college (fortunately all the dorms had cable so I never missed an episode).
    I remember it for two things:
    1. The Undertaker's legendary promo
    2. Jamming 3 months of #1 contender switches into a 2 hour show.
    Good times. Vince Russo was firing on all cylinders for this one.

    HHH was in a hog farm match, had his first real loss when he tapped out to Bret's Sharpshooter on Raw 1996, was squashed by Warrior, lost to Chyna, lost to Benoit in an Iron Man match, lost three times in the Undertaker streak, and lost at Wrestlemania to Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns. 16 years in WWE before going part-time in 2012. He had long title runs in 2002-2004 era, but he generally traded wins and losses pretty evenly throughout his main event runs. I'll give him credit for that.

    After listening to the Undertaker's ramblings, people still make fun of the Warrior's promo when he premiered in WCW?
    Jericho saved that horrendous promo.
