Hennig's "US Title" was actually the Cruiserweight belt. Someone must have imperfectly forgotten his real belt at home or gotten it lost at an airport.
For some strange reason, Curt Hennig always seems to wind up with the wrong belt. In 1990, when he won the vacant Intercontinental Championship from Tito Santana, he was given a World Tag Team Championship belt...
Once I went to a wcw show when Jarret was us champion. He must've forgot his belt though because he came out with some lame belt I had never seen before. I was bummed, especially since I had brought my US title replica.

Thanks for another great video. You do an excellent job of being succinct on build up to these matches. As someone who never watched much wrestling after goofy gimmicks of Next Generation of WWF and Dungeon of Doom in WcW I know exactly what is happening and why in every video! To avoid copyright, slow down the action scenes or speed them up by a bit. The algorithm seems to not be able to catch them as easily that way. I think I speak for everyone when I say if you need more stills and less video to avoid the hassle, we will support that. Gedo didn't hit Jericho at all, which is amazing & shows how he knew right away that Jericho botched it. If you slow it down from the pull Gedo went from "ok, suplex , NO, he messed up another move, he is falling on his head, I have to fall to the side" in a half a second. Glad it was a seasoned vet in the ring or it could have ended horribly for Chris. The bookers did my man Alex Wright dirty, how do you come back from getting beat by Mongo and then having Goldberg pick you up and drop you on your opponent for a win? Havoc '97 - Starrcade '97 is the peak of WCW, and I say that as someone who considered 1992 their best year. It's all downhill after Sting didn't win clean and the nWo started morphing.
+Brian Heriot Correct. It's easy to see why WWF was taking all these wild chances on their shows at this time. WCW was literally NITRO. Explosive. How they ruined a golden opportunity with Bret Hart & Sting will always baffle me. Both have similar finishing moves. Both were tried & true emblems of their organizations only to be screwed by them. Bret & Sting should have been a team fighting the nWo. But those backstage politics. WWF saw that Starrcade weakness & knew it was time to strike. Enter Mike Tyson.
100% possibly even extending that from June '97 thru Starrcade '97. That Rodman stuff in '97 was so huge in the moment. And then heat the Luger was bringing with that WCW crowd. It's a shame the booking with Luger sort of took a nose dive after Road Wild, Bios is right. Almost could've made more sense in having a Hogan/Luger age in the cage instead of bringing back Piper as the commish.
Looking back on this in hindsight, I'm starting to see why the WWF wanted to make an industry-breaking event at Survivor Series 1997. WCW was really on fire at this time, chaotic insanity or no chaotic insanity. The chaos was part of the fun for WCW actually. They had some great mid-carders, powerfully emotional feuds, & the tension of the nWo vs. Sting always delivered. So Vince knew with Bret "The Hitman" Hart's contract soon ending, he needed that big boost to get them the eyeballs on their product. WWF had improved tremendously month after month particularly since Survivor Series 1996 & now had a seriously compelling show. But they needed that final touch to shift the axis. THAT is why they decided to do the Montreal Screwjob against Bret. The energy from that led them to the impact of Mike Tyson & Stone Cold Steve Austin a couple of months later in January 1998. And after that, WCW was on its backfoot & the competition entered a new phase. I see it all clearly now in hindsight.

And honest question, was it the extra free slim jims from the promotion of a (pretty popular)PPV that saved Machos ankles?
That backflip DDT was nice. Funny to think there was a time when audiences would be confused by something like that. We forget that anything flashier than a moonsault was seen as a weird novelty in the late 90s.
I was in middle school and watched this PPV live. Honestly the ppv buys were most likely the fact (for me at least) was at school, EVERYONE was into wrestling at the time. So missing a PPV was like missing an Avengers movie then feeling left out on Monday when everyone else is talking about it
Finally, someone else who gets it. It was the same way during the first 6 Wrestlemanias too. (And the other PPVs. And Saturday Night's Main Event. Meanwhile, Crockett was DC...) Not sure how I feel about wrestling never being that big again. it's great we've got more options for our combat fantasy, but it feels like wrestling barely tries to think up a kayfabe these days. And only for main event feuds.
I remember feeling left out the next day at school after wrestlemania 6. I live in Brampton which is 20 minutes west of Toronto and most of the other guys parents took them to the Skydome to watch it live. We just didn't have the cash back then to go. But I was able to make it to wrestlemania 18 to see Rock vs Hogan, so it all worked out in the end. (I wouldn't go to a wwe event nowadays even if it was free admission. ) lol
I’ve never watched a ric flair match but EVERYTIME I see clips it’s like he has a move set of 5 .. chop .. kick to the leg … suplex .. ring post.. figure four 😂

Loved Halloween Havoc. Amazes me WWE never took that concept that they owned and never made a PPV of it. Bischoff himself said in his mind it was WCW' Wrestlemania although Starrcade was obviously considered that.
Days Left Until Bret Hart Leaves The WWF: 14 (Literally Only 2 Weeks Left) Over in WWF Land, two days prior to Halloween Havoc saw Vince McMahon offer to let Bret Hart stay with the company & to honor the 20-year contract, likely in an attempt to convince Bret to do the job to Shawn at Survivor Series. Bret responds by saying that he'll give Vince his decision by November 1, as while he's obviously unsure as to how exactly WCW would book him, he was told by Vince that the plans for him staying with the WWF involve him losing to Shawn time after time until possibly WrestleMania XIV, when he'd finally get his win back. Meanwhile... HOW IN THE HELL DID RANDY SAVAGE STAND BACK UP AFTER THAT HIGH SPOT IN THE CAGE?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
+George Horvath So much intrigue at this time. And one single move one way or another could alter the course of history. What if Bret stayed? What would happen to Stone Cold's red hot run? Would WCW have stayed on its hot path? With Bret, Shawn, & Stone Cold ruling the main event could The Rock ever get a look inside? What about HHH? So much to wonder about. How did Randy Savage stand back up? It's in his last name. He's a SAVAGE!
@@UnforgivenRonin It's the leg equivalent of Brock Lesnar landing on his neck at Mania XIX. Savage only wound up surviving it because he was so beefy & strong, I guess.

To further your note about how wrestling had become “mainstream” at this point (again), I’d point out that I believe it was around here when one prominent (American) football player scored a touchdown, and his celebration dance was literally DDP’s Diamond Cutter. So we’re talking prime-time, Monday-night football, the NFL, major stuff in the US, and those athletes were pledging their allegiance. Which, naturally, would be picked up by the ESPNs and similar channels and talked about all week. So wrestling was becoming HUGE at this point.

That backflip DDT was nice. Funny to think there was a time when audiences would be confused by something like that. We forget that anything flashier than a moonsault was seen as a weird novelty in the late 90s.
Haa!
Your a wonderful man, i keep forgetting about Sunday videos and it's often a lovely surprise when i'm not thinking of it.
😄👍
It's up for now so lets see how long this last
Macho Man was 45 years old when he jumped off that cage.
Bonesaw was ready!!!
Amazing the Ultimo Dragon and Nagata are still wrestling to this day
I was in middle school and watched this PPV live.
Meanwhile, Crockett was DC...)
Not sure how I feel about wrestling never being that big again. it's great we've got more options for our combat fantasy, but it feels like wrestling barely tries to think up a kayfabe these days.
(I wouldn't go to a wwe event nowadays even if it was free admission. ) lol
Loving these, not looking forward to the end of the Monday nights already!
I’ve never watched a ric flair match but EVERYTIME I see clips it’s like he has a move set of 5 .. chop .. kick to the leg … suplex .. ring post.. figure four 😂
That stiff ass tray shot from Miss Elizabeth made my day lol
Thank u for all the awesome videos, I’m 41 and love reliving these times.

Eddie guerrero vs Rey Mysterio @ Halloween Havoc 1997 is an amazing match it's apart of the WWE 2k22 Rey Mysterio 2k showcase.
Keep the nostalgia coming
Wrestling Bios is the greatest there is. I enjoy watching whatever you put out. You deserve all the subscribers because you do! Also you should play Saturday night slam masters! It's a Great Capcom wrestling game. Unless you did already.
I still have no idea how Randy Savage didn't break his legs from that fall.
+Clutch545 He told you he's a SAVAGE! Hahahaha. Unreal, I know. He shouldn't have done that at all.
He did eventually have to get surgery on his knee.
I remember seeing the commercial promo on TV fpr this, but my family would never pay for the PPV price. I don't blame them.
They probably couldn't afford it.
Literally thought the moonsault DDT that Mysterio pulled off was a video game only move..
I was a wwf guy only so I appreciate these uploads. Eddie Vs Rey was awesome. The rest is forgettable.
Beautiful work as always Ryan. Your work leaves little to to none to be desired.
RIP Randy's knees
This was about the time I started watching both WCW and WWF
Shawn's hesitancy to go into the ring was more believable than Hogans because the Undertaker is much more intimidating than Piper.
Loved Halloween Havoc. Amazes me WWE never took that concept that they owned and never made a PPV of it. Bischoff himself said in his mind it was WCW' Wrestlemania although Starrcade was obviously considered that.
30:38 that ref's knock out acting was a thing of beauty. Hope he a got a raise for that.
Wrestling bios reliving the war and WWE 2k22 a combo so golden it even meets Shelton Benjamin standards
Never expected the legendary Braithwarts maestro to be Debra's new guy? Absolutely epic
Anybody else just feel spoiled getting two videos a week? Ryan, don't work yourself to death.
That Eddie vs Rey jnr match showed how well lucha can be done, so fast and fluid that the co-operation between the two is kept well hidden.
Days Left Until Bret Hart Leaves The WWF: 14 (Literally Only 2 Weeks Left)
Over in WWF Land, two days prior to Halloween Havoc saw Vince McMahon offer to let Bret Hart stay with the company & to honor the 20-year contract, likely in an attempt to convince Bret to do the job to Shawn at Survivor Series.
HOW IN THE HELL DID RANDY SAVAGE STAND BACK UP AFTER THAT HIGH SPOT IN THE CAGE?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
noticed how he fell, he soften the fall, by using both legs at the same time
+George Horvath So much intrigue at this time.
@@Obscusion2 its crazy, because hogan was suppose to move close and catch him, but hogan being hogan, its just a miracle that savage knew what to do, and didn't get badly injured
Thank you sir great video as always. I wonder if Jericho put that lion tamer on a bit stiffer after that botch and bloody nose?
To further your note about how wrestling had become “mainstream” at this point (again), I’d point out that I believe it was around here when one prominent (American) football player scored a touchdown, and his celebration dance was literally DDP’s Diamond Cutter. So we’re talking prime-time, Monday-night football, the NFL, major stuff in the US, and those athletes were pledging their allegiance.
Which, naturally, would be picked up by the ESPNs and similar channels and talked about all week. So wrestling was becoming HUGE at this point.
+ShemaniTims Why can't we have these days back. man? It was so good in this era.
