As somebody who really likes heavy metal, I don't understand Kiss. Of course, I've never seen them live. But during the monday night war I had a close friend who really liked Kiss. And when it was announced that Kiss would be playing on Nitro his response was "I don't care".
KISS is more well known for their live concerts and no so much for their music. I was never really into them myself, as I was always more of a Metallica guy.
Generally speaking, the "Woodstock era" had The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and a bunch of other great bands. The mid-'70s gave way to a second crop of bands like Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, and ZZ Top, who could still play; except, by that time, the business had become more focused on singles and showmanship. KISS didn't have the raw talent to compete with those guys musically, so they relied on their make-up and fireworks. It appealed more to the younger side of the mid-'70s generation, "late boomers." They were never taken all that seriously. The guys before KISS were still listening to Zeppelin and the Stones in the late '70s. The guys after them were already listening to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest by the late '70s. That's what gave birth to thrash and heavy metal as you know it. KISS became a nostalgia act more quickly than anybody.
As a lifelong Mick Foley fan, this could be one of the saddest RTW episodes of all time for me, considering the Hardcore Legend will never hold a singles title in WWF ever again after tonight 😢

I remember hearing that snap and that scream of pain and thought to myself "Did... did he actually break JR's arm?" It was such a sickening sound that it's still in my memory to this day.
I recorded this Raw, and had it for several years on VHS. This is my favorite episode of Raw during the Monday night Wars. I was a huge Triple H fan during this era.
The kiss concert! The nail in the coffin of Bischoff’s tenuous grasp on power with WCW. (I think we still have 1-2 more nitros he was a part of). It’s really a turning point in the war, since the entire run of nitro to this point he was in charge of. Given the way the past nine months of WCW has gone I can’t say it’s unwarranted still kind of crazy to see how far this company fell in just a year since starcade 97
Crazy how wcw had a storyline that was the same as the real storyline; young stars not ascending lol... like... how meta.... Let's acknowledge the elephant in the room, and also leave it where it is and have Nash Sting and Hogan wrassle around it
I was a huge Mankind mark in the 90s and this episode really made me hate HHH. Now you realize they had to legitimize him because HHH was basically the only heel they have.
