  • In this video we discuss right-of-way when turning left at a green light. We cover why it's important to yield to the oncoming traffic that's turning right even if there are two separate lanes on the road that you'll be turning into.
We are a driving school in Victoria BC Canada.

The way America set up the light for turning left is very dangerous and create potential for car crash. Why can’t every intersection use arrow light for turning left?
Yeah I will use a route that use left turn as least as possible

Trips with more right turns usually end up faster. Right turns are definitely safer.

The person shouldn't have tried to even move on the yellow light. Obviously, in the next 5 seconds, it would be red. Yellow sign movement should only happen if have to protect themselves/ others from hazards from a car behind coming in speed. Overall, great video. Thanks !!

Same in Ontario that if a driver is turning right, they are to turn to that 'available right lane because any driver that turns right, & overlaps the available lane, is declared a dangerous driver!

I also was confused of which lane . So I gone into the wrong lane.
I had a teacher and siblings to teach but they did not.
It hard to put what you read into practice so seeing it done matters,

circular green lights should be protected, otherwise just put a flashing yellow instead
I do think intersections are confusing too, having your traffic light a mile away does not help

Question: you shoulder checked before entering the left turning lane to ensure no one was wanting to enter the turning lane from behind you?
I know checking shoulders and blind spots are essential when you make major moves.... isnt it rude if the person behind you tries to enter the left lane first, before the vehicle in front of them?
Someone tried to do that to me and it was scary, yet also rude and I wasnt happy about it.

If there are 2 car turning right, do we wait for both to go before proceeding, or 1 go then our turn because we arrived first

I knew I was not in the wrong. I was turning right on a green, noticed in the opposite lane, a car was waiting for me to pass, (his green, i also had my turn signal) the second I began to turn a car went around the waiting car and turned into my lane. It was already too late for me to stop and forced him or her to stop. They honk at me, lol. I was just thinking, there is no way I was wrong about this. Sometimes, I do hate driving...

Is this also true in the US? I’ve been driving for a couple years now but i find intersections still confusing at times…it’s embarrassing but i honestly didn’t know about this rule so tend to yield to the other cars waiting to turn left when i need to turn right unless i arrive first 😖

On every intersection my foot is over the brake, I know idiots exist every corner
I don’t like this system where people turn left when they get right of way. TURNING LEFT SHOULD BE ONLY WHEN THE LEFT GREEN IS AN ARROW AND NO ONE ELSE IS MOVING IN OTHER DIRECTIONS.
Yesterday I was going through a green light and a car in my opposite was trying to take a left. He couldn’t see me approaching, thought he could quickly turn left and BAM. I was alert to brake on time and avoid a collision. Dam.

Who would’ve been at fault, if you did turn into the far left lane at 7:17? I know they have the right of way at the light, BUT they weren’t suppose to switch lanes in the intersection though 🤷🏻‍♂️

on drive tests you can not go on red light. You can not go on a yellow . those are red lights on test drive. So you are to stop. I went on green light yellow came on as I in middle turning and she told me you just went threw a red light. I repyed to her I thought I saw green. I failed. I was not taught properly.
