I remember when this song was first released we were doing a disco dance unit in gym class to this tune. I hated doing the dancing part because I was too cool for it, but I'd loved this Abba song and all the rest they were pumping out at the time. I never noticed what Does Your Mother Know was about until recently, many decades later. Fun fact: Abba started as a band with the two men, Bjorn and Benny. They brought their girlfriends in as back-up singers and the rest is history.
Another song that PACKED the dance floors. Funny thing, in the movie MA MA MIA they reverse it and an older woman is singing this to a young teen guy!!!!
Yes! Love this! Love up tempo and upbeat! The girls voices sound so different here, really high. I think there is a synth mirroring them which makes it sound so different and cool.
This was the first song by ABBA I had ever heard at the age of 5 or 6. My sisters had a K-Tel vinyl record with various hits in the late 70's. Before I even understood the meaning behind the lyrics, I bopped along to this song on repeat as a kid! Another song from that LP was Bonnie Pointer's "Heaven Must Have Sent You" it's a BANGER!! Keep smiling y'all!!

YESSSSSSSS!!! I have been begging y'all to do this one, thank you! Another great Bjorn song is "Why Does It Have To Be Me?" For some more rocking upbeat songs, try "Voulez Vous" , "So Long" and "On and On and On." You also need to do the video for "Ring Ring", Bjorn is wearing like literal superhero get-up!
I was in my mid 20s attending a family room in a park on Mesa, Arizona, when a great aunt put this on to get everyone to dance. It completely startled me, but my grandparents had also mentioned that they had recently heard about ABBA from other friends of theirs. My 85-year-old mother puts on ABBA to give her energy.
ABBA in the beginning was not the main project, but the duo of the musicians Björn and Benny, while the ladies Agnetha and Frida had their solo careers. and they even do background vocals and choirs in some song on their album as a duo in 1970 when the four together record their first song in English "People Need Love" (1972) they achieve a first local success, so they later make another recording "He is your brother" (1972) which will be #1 on the radio in Sweden there they decide to make an album "Ring Ring" and be a fixed quartet I suggest you look for these two earliest and first ABBA songs "People need love" is a TV presentation in Sweden 1972 "He is your brother" is live on tour in Europe and Australia 1977 (five years later) in both songs all four share lead vocals, in different ways Benny only sang one song "Suzy hang around" (1974) Björn sang several more, the main ones that he sang on tour or on TV: Rock Me (1975) Why did it have to be me (1976) share in parts with Frida & Agnetha
I popped this 45 on the living room stereo, cranked it, and danced to this ABBA so often as a middle schooler. It's still the one ABBA song that brings a smile to my face today. Love that you did this one.
When I was in 8th grade they used to turn a gym into a roller rink and we would have a skating party and that was one of my favorite songs to roller! That was back when family's still had values and kids were respectful and it was the best times of our lives!
Yay - my favourite Abba song!!! It so different, especially with Benny and Bjorn on leads, which didn't happen too often. As for the lyrics. I think its a good message. Kids are always sooooo impatient to grow up!
I think Bjorn Ulvaeus of Abba was a singer (and guitarist) in a band before he formed the group... He did vocals for some Abba songs, including - 'People need love' ... 'Rock me' 🔥🔥
Correct. He was in a band and Benny was in a different band. They met, hit it off, decided to work together and in the course of doing so Bjorn's wife (Agnetha) and Benny's girlfriend (Anni-frid) ended up recorded with them and the group was born.
This is miles and miles outside of the box when it comes to what Abba songs are like, but saying that, it is equally as brilliant as the rest of their huge catalogue of hits, it's unbelievable that they shocked the music world, and fans that they could go all rocky with this and yet when its played, everyone instantly recognises that it's Abba and how good it is
Another great song where Björn takes the lead is 'Why did it have to be me?'. Especially their live performance in Australia is very highly considered by the fans. And Frida is having a blast on the stage :)
I remember recommending you give this song a chance since it was the only big ABBA hit where the guys take lead. As captivating as Anna-Frid and Agnetha are to watch and listen to, please remember it is the GUYS who play all the music AND (most importantly) wrote all their never ending catalog of hits. Similar to the situation with both Richard and Karen Carpenter (although Karen was a prolific drummer too).
ABBA rules. To this day. They took a mix of classical music sounds, Spanish classic flamenco music, Greek musical sounds and other Euro influences, rock included, and came up with one of the most unique sounds in the history of modern pop/rock music. Raise a glass to Sweden for gifting us this group. Cheers to Eurovision as well. Mamma Mia!!!! Hugs from NC, Chuck
Thanks for another great reaction. This is a band that can always produce consistently good sounds. One that really blew me away because it's so different for them is a tune they did called Eagle. Really chilled out, I almost thought I was listening to Pink Floyd at one point, but an amazing tune IMO! Worth checking out. If you choose to, I'd recommend the long album version because the official video cuts off during the instrumental.
Gotta recommend a few more of my Abba faves. A male/female duet style, " Why did it have to be me", "Dance While the Music Still Goes On ", "That's Me", "Me and I ".
Early ABBA,This is my second favorite abba song,Dancing Queen and Waterloo(cat dress video) are two more great abba songs,Those guys were very smart musically, many hits
Love everything Abba!! I still think you need to hear "I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do"!!
Amber's comment about ABBA songwriting skills is right on target. Benny and Bjorn are one of the greatest songwriting teams in modern pop music.
I’ve noticed Amber is often right about lyrics, etc.
They're not as well known for writing the musical "Chess".....can we see a review of "One night in Bangkok"?

Björn sang several more, the main ones that he sang on tour or on TV:
Rock Me (1975)
Why did it have to be me (1976) share in parts with Frida & Agnetha
I love the wide range of music y'all are open to listening and reacting to!
Only US Top 40 hit they had with a male lead vocal. One of my favorites.
That tells more about the american music industry then of ABBA ...
@@krisa990 certainly. If a formula is working the people “in the know” aren’t likely to veer from it.
@@krisa990 What does that mean?
ABBA, best group ever! Their voices..wow!!
This is miles and miles outside of the box when it comes to what Abba songs are like, but saying that, it is equally as brilliant as the rest of their huge catalogue of hits, it's unbelievable that they shocked the music world, and fans that they could go all rocky with this and yet when its played, everyone instantly recognises that it's Abba and how good it is
I can’t wait for yall to watch Mamma Mia! And the sequel Mamma Mia! Here we go again! They are musicals with all the songs by ABBA ❤🎉
Have you done Waterloo yet? That was the song that brought ABBA to the world's attention, when they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974.
Need to do Muriel's Wedding movie reaction.
@@blackblake3658 Heck YEAH!!!!
Back in the 80's I had a bumper sticker on my car, with that exact design logo of "Duran Duran". 👍
Really enjoyed your reaction. So glad yall did this it's my favorite by ABBA. Thanks yall.
This song is one of their best and was nice to hear the boys singing the leads. Nice switch up.
This is one of my favorite ABBA songs. The tempo just makes me wanna boogie, LOL! 😂
My favorite ABBA song.
This is one of my favorite ABBA songs. Brilliant!!!
Such a great song. A real rocker from ABBA, not what you’d typically expect from them.
Another great song where Björn takes the lead is 'Why did it have to be me?'. Especially their live performance in Australia is very highly considered by the fans. And Frida is having a blast on the stage :)
One of my favs too ❤
I remember recommending you give this song a chance since it was the only big ABBA hit where the guys take lead.
My favorite Abba song!
Got to listen to "eagle"
Try “If It wasn’t for the Nights.” It’s got a nice chunky disco rhythm. “One of Us “ is another good one.
Rick Beato had a very interesting interview with Bjorn when he was in Sweden over the summer. A lot of talk about AI and music. Fascinating guy.
Are there ANY bad Abba songs??? No, none!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Björn is the lead vocal on this song. He's also the group's main lyricist, while Benny writes most of the music. Together they make magic.
You must check out the live version of this recoded at their Concert in London, Wembley 1979
It's a gem
🇬🇧🥰
Yes, so much energy, and the looks on Agnetha’s face are priceless
Such a great song, Abba were a phenomenal band. I loved them growing up in the 70s and I still love them now.
Next you need to hear ABBA - Gimme Gimme Gimme - Dancing Queen - Voulez Vous
Gotta recommend a few more of my Abba faves. A male/female duet style, " Why did it have to be me", "Dance While the Music Still Goes On ", "That's Me", "Me and I ".
This is the first time one of the guys in the group finally got lead vocals on a song for ABBA
A band from here in Northern Ireland (Ash) did a great cover version of this.
ABBA is a genius group.
Keep up the great work you two. ❤
You have to react to Abba DANCING QUEEN. Their absolute banger.
I forgot all about this great dancing song! Some wonderful memories attached to this whole album.
Thanks for the trip back ♥️
Early ABBA,This is my second favorite abba song,Dancing Queen and Waterloo(cat dress video) are two more great abba songs,Those guys were very smart musically, many hits
