they sound great... so many cymbals, so little time. I love Paiste so much!!
I just ordered the 21 inch Big Beat to go with the 20 inch Big Beat I already own. Hope I'm as happy as Rob sounds here with it!
How are you liking it so far? I’ve been looking into one to be a good all purpose crash/ride, since I’m in a few bands that range from screamo to smooth jazz.
@@themadkraken1912They are fantastic!! They record so well and have a very buttery feel under the stick. And as Rob mentions, the 21 is gorgeous!! My fav of the two.
I'm with you Bud, nothing is as tasty as Paiste
Rod Strunk I feel like every other brand of cymbals are so boring compared to Paiste.
Even though I probably won’t ever end up getting the big beats because they’re a little “Rocky” for the music I play (even though I’ve thought of getting the 20” for a quick crash on my far left and the 22” as a 2nd Ride/ crash)...
They still sound fantastic for Rock.
Like, if you take the Zildjian K line - they sound great, but they’re just not as complex as any of the Paiste cymbals. I know “Complex” sounds like a bullshit term that companies love to use, but it’s 1000% accurate. Paiste’s cymbals have so much nuance and dynamics in all their cymbals.
Paiste are the masters of all cymbals, jazz, metal, classic, if you need a certain cymbal sound, they have it
Absolutely brilliant addition to the 2002 line...they have to be something special to sit amongst the original line...I have the 19" big beat and it's multi-purpose...you can ride it, crash it...beautiful contrast and control....love them 🙏🏻
Got Full sets of Signatures, 2oo2s, 5o5, 602s, Sound formula, Masters, and Dark Energy too.
But bought a 22 & 19 Big Beat Today.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC 🏆
Blimey! Can i come round and play them all??
One of the best demo/reviews I've seen!
Excellent review !! I have the 19 and 21...love these ! I call them the poor man's Traditionals.
Rob, I'm with you on the 21 and 19 inch as favorites. I just received my 21 inch and just love it!
I really LOVE the 22" I've heard it in other vids and it is beautiful. Surprised how sweet such a large cymbal can be.
I just got the 24" in the mail today. Sounds great, really nice weight. However I think for most people the 22" would be a better bet (myself included). The 24 is just reallllllly low. It's just super deep sounding. Would be right at home with a big monster kit doing big monster songs, but for a bit more versatile sound a higher pitch would be preferable. I'm going to hang on to it since I got a great price, but I'll still keep my eye open for a 22". All that being said I'm excited to see how the 24" sounds recorded. I might end up loving it for that - it definitely separates itself well from the crashes (I have a mix of Paiste Sig crashes).
I couldn't wait to get my hands on a Big Beat 24", and wasn't disappointed! I've owned both Giant Beat and 2002 24", and while they both sounded fantastic (especially the Giant Beat) my wish was that they were just a bit darker. The Big Beat with the extra hammering put it right where I wanted the sound to be...Big and beautiful when riding or really laying into it and crash/washing away. Thanks for the review of the rest of the line as well. Definitely worth checking out.
I have All the Big Beats and YES
The 19 & 21 are Awesome.
Bought the 16s but returned them and went with the 15s
They all Blend Perfectly.... pAisTe-4-Life 🤘
Love my Big Beats. I went 18 20 and 22 crash/ride then the 15 hi-hats. I can't imagine how I would really have fit the 24 on my kit LOL. They complete and compliment my Hendrix Bubinga perfect ply set, perfectly!.
Great review Rob! Awesome sounding cymbals. Would love to hear a review on the mic's you use on your kit.
I was considering purchasing the 602 modern essentialism Vinnie pack, but I'm going with the big beats at half the cost. However, I'm adding the 602 ME's 22 china and signature 10 splash. After weeks of reviewing that's the combination I loved most. Great demo Rob!
Sounds amazing Rob! Do you do private FaceTime lessons or tips and advice, for a newbie? Blessing from the UK u
good job rob..paistes been mine since 1968..back an forth to 2002s..im a 15 inch hi hat guy..but you brought out the sound and playability in the 16..ill give it a try..thx..good video
Love ya Rob! Great, great stuff :D
Got a 24" in the mail yesterday. Been playing it like crazy. I've owned a lot of Paistes through the years and it's one of my favorite cymbals I've ever owned.
Rob,you can make any cymbal sound good!
I always said, NOBODY does B8 better.
Though not a 'normal' jazz cymbal, I have used a full set in such a context...PERFECT!
I know this is old but it reminded me of something. Art Blakey used 2002's as well as a couple of other cymbals from Paiste for a bit.
Good honest review. I’ve been looking at the Giant Beats for a while now, but recently turned to the Big Beats. Had 2002s back in 2002 (haha) and your characterization of the ride is spot on. Lay into it, doesn’t get in the way. One of my favorite rides I’ve played. Thinking of BB, just having a hard time pushing “Buy It Now.” Maybe I will, finally. Very good video, nice demo and I do like the 19. It’s sexy.
You, sir, have an amazing groove!
Love the cymbals! :-) Cheers!
Excellent review and explanation. They do have versatility to be sure.
That 22” sounds amazing! It sounds like something in between Shelly Manne’s ride sound and Art Blakey’s ride sound, at least to my ears.
How about a review on that snare? I've been really interested in the Recording Custom snares. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Definitely, man. When I picked up these cymbals they had just gotten in every model/size of the new RC snares and I was DROOLIN'. They said "Which one would you like to try?" and I pointed straight to the 14x5.5 aluminum. This thing is bananas! I'm hoping I can take a few home to review them for y'all. It's just a matter of availability.
+Rob “Beatdown” Brown droolin for sure! Looking forward to the reviews. Tell them the people demand reviews so we can spend our cash.
+CoryTACP Dude. I'm at Yamaha right now. It's gonna happen very soon. :)
I was on the fence about the new RC snares until I saw your review. I ended up with the 14x5.5 aluminum, too. ;)
Amazing review! Thanks so much brother!
Another great review-thanks Rob.
that 16" hi hat sounds brilliant.
Just got the 15" BB Hi Hats. WOW!
Thanks for the review. I'm surprised by the 16" hats. Typically big hats tend to be to muddy and to low in the mix but those Paiste Big Beats 16" hats sound great. This is the second video hearing the hats and they sound great. Dark, crisp, sits in the mix nicely. The 15" sounded nice too with a balance of dry, definition and a little brightness.
I'm on the fence on buying the other cymbals because I want a 22" Modern Essentials ride, 24" Giant Beat ride, and a few crashes from 20"-18" that compliments my 16 and 18" PST7 crashes and my 14" Giant Beat hats and Pst7 hats.
Sweet sounding cymbals!
Ya forgot. 2002's (reg)are like that, Giant Beats are like that (there's a reason Copland, Bonham, Vinny etc....use em. Once I started playing Paiste, I got rid of everything else! What splashes do ya have set up?
THAT SNARE is awesome!!!
You know I've been on the search for an upgrade from my Zildjian S Rock series and I listened to a 45 minute paiste video laying on my back with headphones on. The two cymbal sets I had to see the names of were the dark energy and the big beats. I am now looking for validation to get the cheaper of the two. Haha. Do you think the cost of the dark energy is worth it compared to the Big Beat? Ie; should i just run with my zildjian s rock for now and save up for the dark energy instead of the big beats? My current setup is 14" hat, 18", 20", 22", Thinking about going to 15" 18",20",24" But the dark energy did, to my ear sound the best to me.
Yo Rob great review! I have the 18" and 19" crashes, but i dont really liked the sound of the ride and hi hat...what line of cymbals would you recommend for me that could fit with those crashes
The 22 is awesome!
So are these a lot like the giant beats?
+Hogan Bentle Similar in that the cymbals have no specific designation, but in terms of sound they're a darker, warmer version of the original 2002s
Thanks, Rob, this is great. 👍🏻
Man, I’ll be honest-I really like the sound of those 15”s! I would like it if there was a bit more stick definition, so a thicker bottom would be welcome.
They sound amazing!!!
Giant Beats or Big Beats? I honestly couldn't decide. They both sounded great.
PAISTE is the best !
I am interested, seems like you cant go wrong, but I would have to play them for final opinion?
Really want these cymbals!!
Rob can you do a demo session with a 2002 red label 15 hats, 20, crash, 22 crash, 24 ride regular weight!
Fantastic player
I can’t believe how good the big hi hats sound. The cymbals sound good but too dark for my taste.
looking at the 18" crash at the 2:00 min point, it appears bent. Hope it wasn't sent like that. Nice sounding cymbals though.
Thinking of adding both an 18 and 22 for jazz quartet....using Darks now. I know these would be a bit brighter, but would they work for jazz?
Yes for sure
Rob Could you please review the paiste 900's ?
+Edward Daffin As soon as the Yamaha office up here gets stock, man. That's the plan. They're still waiting on all the new stuff. I'm seriously looking forward to the new Masters plates, too
Thanks Rob! Keep the video's coming
Rob, you are the fukin man.
Will you have my baby?
The 18" is the worst, I've actually had one twice and sold it both times. My 15s, 19, 20, and 21 are wonderful tho!
Is it me, or is the 18" bent??
It looks bent...
Hey man. Admittedly yea. The samples they gave me made the rounds before I got them and there was a slight bend on the edge of the 18". Didn't affect the sound of it, but in hindsight I should've included a disclaimer for the lumberjack hitters out there. That 18 is pretty thin.
am pairing these with RUDEs(hihat, China and Splashes) :)
Wait, is the 18" bent?
Someone's sponsored.
I don’t know why but I’ve never liked any rides
