I know I'm a little late to this one but I couldn't agree more Super informative little tips and tricks and very direct I feel like this guy might take money out my pocket by teaching other people how to do my job😁 great videos highly recommend
Mannnn I love RUclips and content like this. I'm pretty handy but no mechanic and with the help of this video I did this in an hour. I used a metric socket set and a short piece of metal tubing to get some leverage on the bolts. Thats it. 2007 Liberty. Mine did not have a 16mm socket down low to drain the coolant. Instead I had a plastic winged bolt (I mean you can use your fingers) to drain. Also maybe this will help someone. Instead of marking my bolts, I just laid the new pump on the ground, front facing up, and as I took the screws out of the old one I placed them in the same spot on the new one. Obviously I oriented the old and new pumps to make sure the spots were the right spots. I also bought a new radiator cap for about $6. I've done all kinds of stuff with RUclips.. Thanks for making me an all around handier (?) guy!
There are always some jealousy and negative minded people out there who will by any means look for a molecule of dirt in a mountain of snow. They are angry that someone showed us how to do it ourselves faster and better.
If constructive criticism can be heard and not ignored, even good things can be improved. For instance, using a 6mm wrench on water pump mounting bolts that have 13mm heads is not good information.
Dude thank you so much for making this video. Saved me so much money on these tough times. Was doing the same thing pouring coolant out of the pump. Thanks again.
Thanks a million. This helped confirm my suspicions of a coolant leak at the pump as well as validate my own ability to change the pump. Much appreciated!
I have viewed several videos on changing a water pump on the Liberty. Yours was very helpful...especially with some of the details that others leave out such as numbering the bolts to keep track, etc. This is my first time doing this on any car, and your video has given me the courage to "get it done." Thanks.
+Tom Heermann No problem. Glad you liked it. The process is very simple. Just take your time and you’ll be fine. Thanks for watching and please subscribe and please click on the bell to see all the updates on this channel.
Thank you for your detailed video , watch the video twice and installed my water pump in less than a hour and that includes driving around for 15 minutes.
Great video. I just replaced the water pump on my 2006 Jeep Liberty using your lesson here. Took me about two hours but I took a short break while fluid was draining.
A big Thank You. Your video gave me the confidence to do this job myself. I am sure I saved $150 or so. A new water pump was $40, Antifreeze was $14 and the brake cleaner was $2. Great deals at Advanced Auto with $20 off everything. Under $60 and I am happy.
Thank you very much, your steps where very clear both verbally and video, your tip for labeling the bolts with a sharpy marker was helpful (something I would not have thought of), your video allowed me to “pretend” to be the cool boyfriend who could fix his girls car (the first time).
Thanks, Great video. Looks like tomorrow am I am doing this. Amazon overnight ($42) gets me a new pump tomorrow by 11am. wow. I have a 2011, so must remove fill tank first, it is in the way. Thanks for the torque specs. saves time.
Had the same problem with the bleeder screw with red lock tight. She was not budging.Went to the dealer for a replacement so if I stripped it while I pulled the old one out I would still be good.Dealer doesn't make that part, not even a size... Lol classic!I will try to bleed the air out like you did, great video it is idiot proof. Thanks
Just had to change the water pump again this past week. The radiator blew and then the gasket on the water pump started leaking. I've never had an issue with the system not being able to bleed itself. I've just filled the expansion and then drove it for about 5 miles and then just topped off. Glad it helped you out and thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. You're tutorial is clean and easy to understand and you give great tips! Best car maintenance tutorial by far! I'm not mechanically inclined. I was told that you should replace the fan clutch at the same time. Where is the fan clutch?
If you had one of the older Liberty's where the fan is physically attached to the water pump this is where the fan clutch would live. But more than likely you have the electric fans which are mounted directly to the radiator. So you wouldn;t need to worry about it. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!
Thanks for replying. I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty 3.7L It's a basic model. I was looking at autozone.com and it recommends changing the fan clutch when changing the water pump. You make it look simple and I appreciate your help :)
11:30 That red stuff on the bleeder screw isn't red loctite, it's some sort of rubbery RTV type compound that helps it get a good seal, and it just so happens to be red in color. They used the same stuff on the coolant temperature sensor. I guess your bleeder screw is just corroded in place.
Great informative video, easy step by step instructions for the DIYer, straight to the point. I like to browse around online along with using a Chiltons Maintenance guide before I do maintenance. Kudos to you!
Watch your video, it made it a breeze, not to mechanical, but will try to do some of the easier things like changing the water pump. Took the shroud off, then unhooked some hoses, drained the fluid, and then took off and replaced the water pump. The pully was wobblily, it was clanking. Probably saved 400 dollars, down here in South Florida, they wanted around 500 dollars or more. Thanks Again.

Great video, will start this tomorrow evening when the pump gets in. Do I need to prime the rubber gasket with coolant that goes into the metal channels inside the pump? Kind of like pre-lubricating the oil filter I would assume, no?
Is a $10 Felpro gasket really that much better than an ACDelco one? I was under the impression the water pump (and included components) I got was slightly better than OEM
It's essentially the same process. Only difference is the location of the expansion tank across the core support. Just remove that and follow the rest of the steps. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!
Yes it's a "normal" failure. Just do yourself a favor and toss the supplied gasket and buy a FELPRO version while you're in the store. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!
How much do you clean the mount area after the old water pump comes off? Mines a little worse for wear even though the gasket is off. I sanded all around with 1500 grit but its still got discoloration are you supposed to have silver in all areas? I don't want to keep going and create gouges. Anybody???
could your water pump cause your liberty to not start up? my liberty makes a very quick trying to turn over noise. like something is stopping it from turning as soon as you turn the key. it started acting like is was gonna stall out on me last night. I got it home and the next day. won't start. there is some wetness under the water pump and there is nothing left in the coolant reservoir. any ideas? please help.
+Bigg Poppa Yes. I've had a seized alternator on another vehicle prevent it from turning over. The AC Compressors are known for going bad as well. Take the serpentine belt off and try starting it. If it does. Stop it and then start turning the pulleys by hand too see which one is bad.
I'm not seeing in your video whether you ran the engine with the heat on for awhile and the radiator cap off, to purge the air at first? Or maybe thats not necessary Also I've seen videos where they first fill the radiator with distilled water and radiator super flush cleaner for about 10 minutes, drain that out, and then fill it again. Is this what you meant by you flushed earlier? The video wasn't a Jeep Liberty and I'm not sure if that will cause problems lol
I think I'm going to skip the flush cleaner and just drain and fill. Somehow I see it causing problems. In a car with 90K miles the solvents could end up causing leaks maybe. Seems likely
Heat on and idle speed about 2000. Once you feel some heat come from the vents install the cap and take it for a 10 minute drive. Let it cool down and then top of the overflow to the min cool line and you’re done
That's a weep hole. It's there to indicate if there's a bearing/seal failure. Coolant will come out of the hole in the event of a bad seal. I'm having a Christmas giveaway on my channel. Follow the link to enter into it. ruclips.net/video/MWOO-BBh7bE/видео.html
On my 3.7L Jeep Liberty, the hardest part of the job is removing the fan clutch from the front of the water pump shaft. This vehicle is not so equipped.
Probably Tow equipment. It has a Class 2 receiver hitch and a TOW switch next to the automatic transmission shifter. Not sure about the tranny cooler. There is an AC condenser in front of the radiator; I have not noticed a auxiliary trans cooler.
Bad tensioner causing the belt to slip on the water pump. Could be a bunch of things. Also check to make sure the cap on the expansion tank is good. If it’s leaking and not allowing pressure to come up. That could contribute as well.
this is the easy one ,the 3.7 with heavy duty cooling uses two fans and a much bigger fan shroud which have to be removed as a unit which is a real hassle to get out
+Bigg Poppa I would take a breaker bar and put in on the crank pulley and see if you can rotate the engine over at all levels. But from the sounds of it, you may have some valve train issues. Either way it's not good.

Well this model didn’t have it. It was a 2005. Sorry that I don’t have your specific model. Can’t help it that I had electric fans. Eat a snickers dude.
If you can't handle comments, you probably shouldn't make videos. You seem to thin skinned for public criticism. Maybe you should stick to home movies dude!
To the contrary, I take criticism very well. But when you fire the first shot which was a ignorant comment to begin with. Don’t get offended when I defend myself and explain why.
He skipped it because it wasn’t relevant to his setup. He also didn’t show any signs of being thin skinned, he stated a fact. Maybe you should go back to watching pantyhose pervert videos?(you’re liked videos are public lmao)
Very simple and easy to understand teaching. I would recommend your videos to anyone.

So a new pulley comes installed on the new pump?
Yes it does.
Thank you for being so specific!!

No you won’t. Just do yourself a favor and throw away the gasket that’s included in the box and get a Felpro one instead.

Ok. If you’re getting a AC Delco pump you’ll be alright.
Will all this relate to a 2011? Hope soo doing one for a friend tomorrow...
Other than the location of the expansion tank and washer fluid location. It's essentially the same process.
Thank you very very much for this video Sir,🙏
You got it.
Do you have to bleed the thermostat after you put it in
I didn’t. I just filled it with coolant and drove it for 15 min and then topped it off once it cooled down.
I need information on a 2008 Jeep Liberty
It's essentially the same process. Only difference is the location of the expansion tank across the core support. Just remove that and follow the rest of the steps.

Not for this setup.
I'm not seeing in your video whether you ran the engine with the heat on for awhile and the radiator cap off, to purge the air at first? Or maybe thats not necessary
Also I've seen videos where they first fill the radiator with distilled water and radiator super flush cleaner for about 10 minutes, drain that out, and then fill it again.

It has both the electric fan and the clutch fan. My Liberty is a 2008
Ok. I wonder if that was part of the tow package. Do you have a tranny cooler too?

Changed the water pump and thermostat and still gets hot
Possible clogged radiator or you have a blockage somewhere
Bad tensioner causing the belt to slip on the water pump. Could be a bunch of things.

I would take a breaker bar and put in on the crank pulley and see if you can rotate the engine over at all levels. But from the sounds of it, you may have some valve train issues. Either way it's not good.

Taking the fan off is a very important part that gets totally skipped. THAT IS WHY BAD REVIEWS!
