      Hahahaha! It was honestly difficult to find a pig themed scrub top! I’m sad that my pig earrings didn’t get the screen time they deserved, due to my wig not cooperating.

    I really loved both seasons of Castle Rock and was super bummed when it wasn't renewed for a third season. Loved the lore they were creating and how the two seasons were connected.

      Yeah it’s a shame. I have to rewatch season 1 and then I will have a fuller appreciation for the connections.

    Castle Rock was added to the The Stand: The Complete & Uncut Edition in 1990. It doesn't appear in the original 1978 edition. In Nightmares and Dreamscapes: It Grows On You, Harlow, Maine is changed to Castle Rock decades after it was published.

    Castle Rock is mentioned 745 times in 34 if King's novels, novellas and short-stories. The most mentions in one book is 208 in Needful Things.

    yes the pandering and the ability to be somehow unpredictable. you summed it up in a lot. Wish they had done more with the Marsten House ( monster Salems' Lot '79 and book fan-dog)

    • @agreatundertaking
      @agreatundertaking  Год назад

      Yeah the house itself clearly had a history and a role to play, but it wasn’t the outright living, breathing independent antagonist it was in the novel!

    Great video! I personally don't mind if stories are altered in TV or movies as long as it's well done. Like Lovecraft, the world King created could definitely be expanded and built upon for generations. And I hope it is!

      Thanks, Ryan! Yeah the more I let go of the idea that the screen adaptations need to be faithful retellings, the more I am able to enjoy them.

    Bought the Castle Rock Season 2 Blu-Ray over a year ago and never opened it. Maybe this Video will change my mind. 😀

      @@agreatundertaking I'm such a Salem's Lot "traditionalist" that I'm AFRAID to watch Castle Rock 2 because the Marsten House looks like its made of brick instead of wood. I think need to check into a Mental Institution" LOL. 😁

    • @agreatundertaking
      @agreatundertaking  2 года назад +1

      Yeah… look at it from the perspective of “everything that happens in this show is post-Salem’s Lot novel” and it will likely be less upsetting lol, but as far as the Marsten House itself, yeah you might not love with they did with the place.

    Hi there Mr Doyle. Nice analysis. Glad you enjoyed the season. If you do see Masters of Sex, Lizzy Caplan (Annie) was in that as well. Great actress. Yeah, this show sort of has an AHS vibe in that they throw a lot of stuff at the wall to see what sticks. I enjoyed it a lot but can totally get why some viewers may not. Also, finished Fairy Tale and enjoyed it though I think the first half was much stronger. Hope you’re doing well as we roll into October. Have an awesome week.

      Howdy, Paul! I thought Lizzy did a great job in the role. Is Masters of Sex worthy watching? What the heck is it even about?! I’ll have to Google it lol
      Fairy Tale definitely goes a very different direction in its second half. Not bad, but not great either.
      October is off to a good start, but I don’t know where 2022 went… poof, it’s almost gone. 😭 Take care, Paul!

    I loved season 1 if Castle Rock but had no desire to see Season 2. I dont know why. I had a mental block or something not to watch it. But you convinced me to give it a chance.

      It’s worth a watch for sure. Definitely not what I was expecting, and I like having that subversion of expectations sometimes.

    Could the novel Misery still be set in modern times? Just because Annie doesn't own a PC, laptop, smartphone, tablet, doesn't mean it can't be set in modern times. Paul's smartphone could have been lost at the crash site, or Annie could be hiding it. I know that The Long Walk definitely dates itself in places for example the news reporter still using a film camera with a long power cord rather than a digital camera with a battery. Or kids wearing shoes from the 1960s (when King wrote it) with nails that held on on the soles and heels, which slowly fall apart. A station wagon is seen. That used to be a common site, but when is the last time you saw a station wagon? Mention of The Ladies' Aid, which has disbanded. Protesting giving away the Panama Canal which happened in 1977 so King updated it before it was published in 1979. Who would protest that today? Is there anything in Misery that would clearly date it in the past?

      Hey Patrick! Honestly, the typewriter is the most obvious thing that comes to mind, but it’s not as if you can’t get a typewriter anymore, so that’s admittedly not a great argument. I had considered that after writing the script, and honestly I don’t know if there are any more consequential examples without going back through the book. Perhaps that dates in the newspaper clippings and obits in Annie’s scrapbook…
