@@agreatundertaking You knocked it out of the park. I personally would rank "My Pretty Pony" #1, but that's because it is just...incredibly good, true advice. However, I can't fault your logic at all with #1 either. Reading that story's end had me cheering and so happy for the family. I remember how useless my dad was, and how much his family abused my mom. Reading "Maple Street's" climax and denouement was pure catharsis and escape for me that first time.

Happy Halloween Mr Doyle. For me, Crouch End was always my favorite. Loved the Lovecraftian elements. Congrats on the video coming out as planned. I really enjoyed your takes on these stories, especially Dolans Cadillac. I really enjoyed that one as well and the tv episode based on it. We’ll have an awesome week and hope to see you again soon. Cheers!

I appreciate any video ranking Kings short stories. Your videos and insightful critiques are top tier honestly... I read this book when I was like 21-22 and I think it's time for a reread soon. The story that always stuck out as my favorite and I felt was miles above most of the other stories was Crouch End... But then again I've always appreciated the more scarier stories from Kings short stories collections. A lot of the stories you had towards your middle section would be my top picks and the ones you have at the top would be my middle picks personally but I enjoyed this video and all of your videos a lot! Thanks for posting!

On second listening. The passage of time is terrifying. I, at 35, have become acutely aware of that passage. Nothing stops it. Nothing slows it down.
You just enjoy and savor every moment like a perfectly ripe persimmon, enjoying the fruit and honey while it lasts.
Nothing stops time, my friend. That is the most frightening fact of our existence.

"My Pretty Pony" (#3) is REDICULOUSLY true. I could have sworn that it was still 2012 and I had just started talking online to a woman I found captivating. But no -- it's 2023, we have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, have been married for 9 years, and I'm 40 with hair that is half white/gray. Time speeds up as you get older. This story is the literary equivalent of the Kenny Chesney song "Don't Blink". It's too true, and I have to make an effort to slow down time with my wife and daughters so I don't miss out and have that precious, wonderful time flash by in an instant.

King dedicated this collection of stories to Thomas Williams, a writing instructor who taught for many years at the University of New Hampshire. Since the book's publication, King has singled out Williams' 1974 National Book Award-winning novel The Hair of Harold Roux as a favorite of his, and one he returns to "again and again."
    The dedication reads:
    In memory of
    THOMAS WILLIAMS,
    1926-1990:
    poet, novelist, and
    great American storyteller.
"Sorry, Right Number" was telecast as a season 4 episode of Tales from the Darkside in 1987 before it was published in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. "The Moving Finger" was adapted into a season 3 episode of Monsters in 1991. "Chattery Teeth" was adapted into a segment of the 1997 film Quicksilver Highway. "The Night Flier" and "Dolan's Cadillac" were both adapted into films of the same respective names, in 1997 and 2009, respectively. "Home Delivery" and "Rainy Season" were adapted into short films.
During the summer of 2006, TNT produced the eight-episode miniseries Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King. Despite the title, three of the eight stories were not culled from the book: "Battleground", from Night Shift (1978); and "The Road Virus Heads North" and "Autopsy Room Four", from Everything's Eventual (2002).

The interpretations are interesting. To me the general meaning in mist King stories wiuld be "caca happens." But maybe I'm also not looking for deeper meanings in his stories.
