This one and Dark Half are like twinners. They are almost the same story just different enough. I call my self a constant listener as I use audible to enjoy Stephen King.

I liked this story a lot when I was reading it, I think this kinda feels like a shorter version of The Dark Half (especially with the twist in the ending)

Indeed! In fact The Dark Half was in the front of King’s mind when he wrote SWSG!

I really need to read this story. I've read the langoliers story but that's as far into the book I got. I love the secret window movie and I've been meaning to read the story.

Excellent work as always Sir, thank you. For some reason I always used to get this story confused with Umney's Last Case - no idea why.
Lot's of call backs to Misery there, I guess, like why Annie kept Paul...(wait for it...)
    Misery loves company.
    I'll get my coat.
Looking forward to the film analysis. Fun fact, a while back Mr Depp owned a property next to mine here in the UK, and I met him occasionally in the village shop and the pub., really nice guy (also Jeremy Irons had the house on the other side of me, really starting to think I should not have moved...ah well, needs must)

Why thank you, DeadCat! As for the Misery pun, I’m in no position to judge anyone for that sort of thing 😂
I’ve never met a real “celebrity”, at least not one as big as Depp or Irons. Mostly lesser known rock and metal musicians. I life relatively close to NYC so I’m sure I could have a chance encounter, but I have no desire to visit the city. It’s chaos and bad for my brain.

I think this was my favorite story out of this collection. I really liked the use of the unreliable narrator Mort, and the twist at the end really surprised me at the time. I always thought this and the Dark Half would be a fun double feature.
While you were reading King's explanation for how this story came to be, it reminded me that one of my favorite parts of King's books were the forewords/afterwords that he would include sometimes. I always loved it when King would speak directly to his Constant Readers. Not having a dad around much for my childhood, combined with an alcoholic, abusive stepfather I couldn't stand, in my child's mind these notes to his fans turned King into "Uncle Stevie"--a surrogate male role model that I really needed, especially during my adolescent years.

Hey Ravuun. That’s both a sad and kinda beautiful story. I can see why you would’ve developed that sort of relationship with King. He does take a casual “hello friends” sort of tone with his intros and afterwords. ❤️

I never read the Novella ""Secret Window, Secret Garden", and when I watched "Secret Window" (2004), I never cared for it, Sorry. Watched "The Langoliers" (1995) last week on RUclips... and I mis-named it a short story instead of a Novella
Thank You for the Review and Video 😀

    • @agreatundertaking
      @agreatundertaking  Год назад +1

The novella is good, but I admit it loses its impact when you already know the “twist”. There are of course some differences between the novella and the movie though, so you might still enjoy it.

I hadn’t seen it in SO long! My favorite part of the movie is that Johnny Depp is basically playing himself lol! A disheveled, middle-aged, eccentric artist with serious relationship and substance abuse issues 😂

Your wife has very interesting taste in hats. And that connection between the faux bomber and sinister nurse is creepy. Like the sort of thing you’d see in a bad tv thriller series. I enjoyed the story but found the ending a bit predictable, if only because I think that twist has been done to death at this point, all the way back to Psycho. Your analysis was a lot more interesting than a simple rehash so I appreciate that. Have an awesome couple of weeks and see you when you discuss Captain Jack.

      Hey Paul!
She’s got an interesting hat collection… now if only my cranium wasn’t so bulbous!
As for the bomber/nurse thing, such a wild coincidence! I’m not sure how it took me this long to discover the connection.
The story is definitely predictable. Especially when you begin to notice that every time Mort goes to sleep, Shooter gets up to his shenanigans, or the house burns down, or people get murdered, etc. Definitely not a unique idea in that respect.
      Take care, Paul!

Different Seasons and Four Past Midnight are up there in my list of Kings favorites. The audiobook of this by Ron woods is amazing as well. Crazy dude breaks into the king home and gets disarmed by a police dog. Code for got ass chewed by a big German Shephard lol

Yeah both collections have some incredible stories that see King taking some creative risks and just knocking it out of the park in most cases. And yeah, that dude def got mauled lol

    • @agreatundertaking

Honestly that ‘Salem’s Lot movie. The Boogieman looks like generic jump-scare horror, but not necessarily entirely bad.

@@agreatundertaking For me it’s The Long Walk. I heard it’s in pre production, but nothing else. I would much rather a proper adaptation to that than I do The Stand.

Amazing when research done at separate times end up connected! Also I find it amazing how often people are closely related to a character like " Anne Wilkes "...
    SCARY !!!!
As an author who pumps out as much and as often as King,...similarities,...posible
plagerism,..isn't that a high risk? Kind of getting into a " writer rut " ???

    • @agreatundertaking

Omg I've loved this movie since I was little (I haven't read the Novella yet.) and I had no idea that happened to him and his family! Protect Mr. King and his family at ALL COSTS!!!!! 🖤❤💯🫶
