After binging all your content I have been missing your videos! Yay for new content!!! And congrats on 1,000 subs, that's like 200 more than you had when RUclips first put your videos in my feed! Ye gods, Sleepwalkers next...oh dear LOL
I admire your confidence in the inclusion of your verbal anomalies and artifacts. I always edit mine out out of some half-assed desire for perceived perfection. Maybe I should lighten up and let a few slip in my own videos.
Thanks Darin. It was after I realized that I wasn’t that great at writing jokes that I decided to leave the bloopers in. They’re the jokes that write themselves!
My cousins are named after the Greek Gods Athena and Eros but they spelled Eros as Eras, either because they didn't know how spell Eros or they didn't want his name associated with the word Erotic.
Ah, I truly enjoyed your discussion of Satan and tricksters. I find it interesting that Eastern cultures usually portray Satan as more of the trickster type than the ABSOLUTE EVIL you see in the Western interpretations. I love when people dig into how different religious lore share so many common themes that sometimes get warped through various lenses. It's been so long since I watched Needful Things. I need to check it out again with this interpretation in mind.
I only recently found out that Amanda Plummer is the daughter of the late actor Christopher Plummer who appears in the movie adaptation of Dolores Claiborne
I've always had a soft spot for this movie and it's always been one of my favorite King books. Would love to see this story stretched into a limited series, showing more of how greed can gaslight an entire community
It would likely make an excellent series. We’d really get a chance to know and understand the motives of each resident, rather than only a couple of them.
These long rants and deep analysis are two of the many things that makes your RUclips channel stand apart from all other Stephen King based RUclips channels.
Good morning, Mr. Doyle. I saw the expanded cut. It was amazing. Then again, I have a serious soft spot for this film, unlike Mr. Ebert (RIP). I actually used this film as a piece of a theology paper I wrote in seminary about depictions of the devil in popular culture as compared to how they are shown in scripture. And Gaunt fits the bill quite well. Castle Rock may seem a little out of the way but the Devil did expend a fair bit of energy just to mess with Job over a bet with God. And getting otherwise decent people to fight is a classic devil move. (Also a great way for the wealthy to control the poorest peoples by getting them to fight each other). Not familiar with the Mormon website you mention but it sounds interesting and I look forward to checking it out. Huh, long rambling post…So yeah, I do enjoy this film quite a bit. Have an awesome week! And good luck with Sleepwalkers. It’s pretty terrible. 😉
Good morning, Paul! Yeah I never realized just how uneducated in biblical matters I was until now. I grew up going to church, but never by choice, so I didn’t absorb or retain much. I was surprised by the BCC site. There was a lot of levelheaded, thought provoking commentary on there! As for Sleepwalkers, I’ve seen a few stills now, and I am NOT looking forward to it. Let’s hope I can dig deep enough to find something worth discussing! Have a good day, Paul! 😀
also... also haha wanted to add, when I had that thought "Your Devil will come with a smile, not a sneer..." I always saw it as more disquieting as "Your" Devil, and not "The" Devil.... because while it's unlikely that "The" Devil is out there, It's a near certainty that "Your" Devil is out there.
I literally just got my daughter into Stephen King , like 2 days ago , using this movie to set up the first season of Castle Rock. She's reading my copy of The Stand as we speak
That’s fantastic! I’m hoping to indoctrinate my daughter in the world of King eventually, but she’s still too susceptible to lasting trauma so I’m going to wait a while still lol
Here's an interesting fact about bonnie bedelia she's the aunt of the culkins macauley culkin rory culkin scream 4 and Kieran culkin from the show succession their father is bonnie sister
I had know idea that needful things was made into a movie until a year ago I watched the extended cut of needful things and I did like it but I understand why it's not well known the late max von snyder was brilliant as Leland gaunt he really stood out I also liked bonnie bedelia in the film ed harris was also good
@@agreatundertaking Malcolm McDowell is a creepy panther man who has a thing for his sister. Pretty much the whole plot hinges on his sister's virginity. It's just creepy in the wrong ways haha
Lolol McDowell has some great films under his belt, but he also has Cat People and Firestarter 2 on his filmography. I’ll never understand why he didn’t have a more… fruitful career.
I remember watching Siskel and Ebert: At the Movies on PBS. If Siskel hated it and Ebert loved it, then it's a movie I would enjoy.
Patrick Doyle ... my name and yours combined!

Hey Ravuun! Thank you! I intend to watch Sleepwalkers tonight…. Keep me in your thoughts. Lol

LET'S GOOOOOOOOO
11:44 I think this is officially your longest lasting transition ever and one of the coolest!
Thanks Patrick! I thought about shortening it, but I liked it too much to cut it off early.

Hey Kitty! Yeah, it seems that in the US in particular Satan was used as a cudgel rather than as a storytelling apparatus.
Ancient Aliens (of all shows) has a great episode on the Devil.
they defend him and say that he's actually right.
Lololol I can’t say I’m not intrigued…
I only recently found out that Amanda Plummer is the daughter of the late actor Christopher Plummer who appears in the movie adaptation of Dolores Claiborne
I did not know that! I know who Christopher Plummer is, and I’m super excited to get to Dolores Claiborne!

I agree. I read most of Kings books in the 70’s and 80’s. My favorites are Salem Lot, Needful Things and the Shining.

Great vid!!
Max von sydow in this role made me arrive at a thought, that always haunted me...
"Your Devil will come with a smile, not a sneer..."
Also... That Ebert bit...
That was awesome....
Sooo harsh.... and sooo hilarious!
also... also haha

Thumbs up for the Roger Ebert burn.

Yeah, my daughter is 24 lol
😂😂😂 I sometimes forget people can have adult children.
Now my granddaughter has to wait another 10 -14 years
Lol he’s got some safe short stories. And then there is The Eyes of the Dragon… we could maybe start them earlier if we choose carefully lol
I enjoy your deep thoughts I actually learn a lot that I didn't know since I read his work and not give it a thought on where he gets his ideas.
Thank you, Jim. I hadn’t ever considered the background information either until I started the channel.

I did not know that! Thanks, Angela!
As someone else who tends to overthink all themes and subtexts of horror books and movies I genuinely appreciate these videos.

I wish I had found the extended cut first and watched that one instead. Something tells me it is better than the theatrical cut.
I wasn't sure if you forgot to say "unquote" or it was a long quote.
Lol I know I did forget to say quote or unquote at some point in this one.
Can you explain your costume to me? Why the white shirt, black tie and backpack?
Was going for a classic “door to door” Mormon look.
Saw it in the theater.loved it.i wish they could have included the talisman care ace driver for guant for his chore he brings buster along doing coke
I counted 4 verbal flubs. Is that a record for you? This is my 8th comment on this video ... perhaps a record for me.
I don’t know… may be a record, but I haven’t been keeping track!
The testing of Kobe from the bible.satan offered earthly riches but end up a curse
The testing of jobe from the bible.satan offered earthly riches but end up a curse
Siskel and Ebert were hacks and the only horror movie they ever said anything nice about was that godawful Cat People remake
I never saw the Cat People remake, but I’ll be sure to avoid it based on your comment lol
