My favorite book will always be Drawing the Three because I love all the different stories intermingling in it. But I enjoy Wastelands for how amazing Blaine is. I must have completely forgotten about the sex demon until this review. Like you, I tend to tune out most of King's sex scenes. Hearing you discuss them reminds me how I complain about drawn out book sex scenes to my friends.
I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed the wastelands definitely a big step up from the drawing of three to me this book is one of my favorite reads by king and my favorite book in the series ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow!!! I’m not sure what my fav in the series is… I seem to remember really enjoying Wolves of the Calla, but it’s been a little while… and even longer since I’ve read the other books in the saga.
Hey there Mr Doyle. Sounds like you had an experience with the book. If kind of forgotten about the demon sex. For me, the city of Lud and Blaine were always the showcase, along with Jakes adventures in Manhattan. Just think, at some point this means you’ll have to do the Dark Tower film. 🤔 Have an awesome week.
Hahahaha yes, some day I will have to watch and think about the Dark Tower movie. I have seen it once, and I remember nothing other than the fact that it was completely unsatisfactory, as expected.
I think this is my favorite book of the series, because it shows us what has happened to Roland's world. I also thought Jake's experience with conflicting realities and the house guardian were really neat, as well as the bit where Jake meets the child version of Eddie. The demon speaking rings were odd, but since the incubus/succubus thing had already been established in Roland's world it sorta made sense. As much as King's weird sex stuff ever makes sense, anyway.
This book was like a strange mix between apocalypse now, terminator and the hobbit. Overall one of my favorites of the series. I understand the issues with some Kings sex scenes. It's not that it's bad but in ao many circumstances, it's not something rationale people would be thinking about. The Raft, IT, the mist all stories you have previously discussed, no rational person is trying to get action. Ok, maybe most regular people. There will always be the Quagmires of the world
Hahahaha yeah I personally have never understood the choices King made regarding the sex scenes in any of those stories you mentioned. Totally don’t get it.
Drawing and Wasteland are my favorites, even with the weirdness of the demon encounter. Eddie Dean is my favorite fictional character. Id say it falls under speculative fiction more than anything. All this discussion of AI and we dont wven talk about how they fought a GIANT CYBORG BEAR??
Eddie is a great character. I’m a sucker for a strong redemption arc. I had to google “speculative fiction”, as I wasn’t familiar with the term, but yeah I’d say that is an accurate categorization. I know, I dropped the ball. I had considered shoehorning Shardik in somewhere, but definitely got sidetracked by the current AI conversation. 🤦🏻♂️
Hey Dustin! I just got started on Needful Things script last night. This one is slow going. Digging into some religious topics that are gonna take a bit more finessing. But I’m working on it and I thank you for the enthusiastic comments my friend!
Hi mr doyle loving your content which is my go to any thing sk related was woundering how do get your resources from and on what format do you read the books im really impressed how your dedicated keep up the good work
Hey Tina! Thanks so much! For resources, I usually start with the introductions/liner notes to the books themselves, then Stephen King’s website, then Google and Wikipedia, in that order lol I own all the books, and used to read voraciously. Now that I have two kids, a demanding job, and less time to just sit and read I am a big fan of audiobooks. I just finished Needful Things this morning, and King reads that one, so it was a really great experience. Every line and voice is delivered just how he intended when he wrote it. Thanks again, Tina! I really appreciate the kind words!
My interpretation of The Pulse in Cell is that it's the result of an AI Super Intelligence that decided that humanity would be better off as a hive mind so it "pulsed" as many people as possible via mobile phones to become Phoner zombies controlled by the AI. Humanity might be better off as a hive mind since we'd all work toward a single goal rather than each having their own goals which is counter productive and destructive. Maybe the reason we haven't detected intelligent life is because intelligent life always destroys itself. In the movie The Matrix, humanity was described as a virus. Perhaps when intelligence like ours emerges, the aliens use up all of the resources and destroy their environment the way we are. With great power comes great responsibility (yes, I'm quoting Spider-Man) but our power is growing but we're not handling it responsibly hence we are slowly self-destructing.
😮 This is the kind of theorizing I LOVE! I have only read Cell once so it’s not at all fresh in my mind, but I will definitely be revisiting this idea when I get to that book!
@@agreatundertaking I love Cell but hate the ending. I love the movie ending though, and King had a hand in the movie as an executive producer, so I'm wondering if he helped retool the ending. The book ending is too open-ended for me. It's one of those books I'd love to see a sequel for. I want to learn what the pulse was, and see it defeated or finally conquer mankind.
I watched the movie years ago, but def don’t remember much about it. Same goes for the book in all honesty. Outside of the central premise it’s all pretty murky.
Ypu ever thought about talking about the Rock N Roll antidotes of King, I know you are aa music lover and I enjoy the stories about the Ramones and AC/DC and i feel like it would make for a quick fun low effort video haha, just an idea man, anyways, hope you've been doing okay
King was chastised back in 2021 for saying The Rolling Stones were better than The Beatles. Even if I believed that I would never have the balls to say it on Twitter lol

Oh man, Needful Things audio book is so god, it's the inverse of the movie, which might actually be a comedy lol
