“Don’t Come Around Here No More”, “Mary Janes Last Dance”. ❤️
Absolutely, 2 amazing songs. Great choices!
I could listen to Tom all day long! My absolute favorite is “Grew Up Fast”, so I was super surprised when my Dad said he had never heard it, considering he is the reason I grew listening to him!
Both great songs and music videos
Perfect choices. "Don't Come Around Here No More" should deffo be the video version. So weird and creepy.
'Learning to fly' is one of my favorite Tom Petty songs. But overall Tom Petty is one of my all time favorite artists. RIP
I like that one too and Waiting is the Hardest Part
@@sierraangel9582 Both of those songs are rarely reacted to but some of the best Tom Petty songs! I would nominate 'Walls" into that same category.
@@sierraangel9582 Hard Promises hell ya. Insider one of my favorites but the whole album kicks ass.
It should be pointed that the lyrics "Free.........Free fallin" are significant. The bad boy thinks by hittin and quittin he is free but in reality he is free falling, aka drowning in his own chaos.
This ^.
Also I think he didn't love her, so felt like he had to cut her free. But still feels bad about it = the chaos / the falling part.
(I didn't say that very well...)
"Dont Come Around Here No More" & "You Got Lucky!!!!!"
Ok, all these suggestions are nice and all, but seriously this man's entire carreer has been incredible. Anything of his is worth listening to.
Facts. One of my top 3 concerts of all time. Whole catalog is perfection
@@maxbriggs1667 The Traveling Wilburys...
I would prefer that people suggest his hidden gems like wildflowers, something good coming, walls, and waiting is the hardest part
Tom Petty mixed in with other masters of this craft.. Try listening to The Traveling Wilburys.
Some of the most incredible artists, just feeding off each others energy. What a truly amazing collaboration it was.
The handful of tom petty concerts I went to were some of the best times I've ever had. Great memories RIP to a LEGEND
I saw him only once in concert - in Vancouver BC, about 1 week before he passed away. I attended a LOT of concerts that year, but his was by FAR my favorite. I felt so fortunate that I was able to have that experience. The vibe in the arena was like nothing I've ever felt. RIP Tom Petty!
Lucky
Love Tom Petty. The list of awesome songs is long!
Long but easy.....All of them !
You've wondered about Chris Stapleton's influences. Stapleton has said in many interviews that his favorite album of all time is Wildflowers by Tom Petty. All about the sonics.
Wildflowers is so underrated and overlooked by almost everyone but the music on that album can only be described as beautiful.
Gotta do more tom petty. You dont know how it feels and running down a dream are my favorites off the top of my head
That song isn't roll another joint, its called "You don't know how it feels"
Love the line "she loves horses...........and her boyfriend too". If she had to choose, she would pick the horses
"Running Down a Dream" was my introduction to Tom when I was a very small child. Been a huge fan ever since.
"Wont Back Down" is Tom Petty's anthem. It's now sung by the entire crowd at University of Florida football games at the 3rd quarter break (along with "We Are the Boys From Old Florida"). Petty grew up in Gainesville and frequently performed in local bars on his way up the ladder. Late 60s and early 70s. I was there (although I don't remember much; great dope).
I took my took my daughter to see Tom Petty (RIP) and Jackson Browne for her 21st birthday. Talk about 2 great artists. I never got to see Tom perform again, but I've seen Jackson 10 times. I have taken each of my grandchildren to a Jackson Browne concert for their 12th birthday and their first concert. Welcome to the world of Tom Petty. His music never fails to disappoint.
Tom petty has over 100 fire songs all of them are classics. Rip to Tom petty
Tom Petty wrote his first hit at age 39. He is proof that you can still make good art after the traditional idea of “your prime”.
What 'hit' do you mean? His first #1 hit was The Waiting, in 1981, when he was 31.
The album, Damn the Torpedoes , with Refugee, came out in 1979, when he was 28.
This song is the perfect...windows down, taking a ride; type vibe. Beautiful soul.
Then you get a speeding ticket listing to Running Down A Dream lol
The vampires Tom talks about here is the way young men acted and dressed on Ventura Boulevard in the early 90's.He said they all wore these long coats or jackets with the collar pulled up and often with a touch of black makeup then they'd lean against the wall out of the light. Axl Rose performed the song with the band at the MTV awards that year and loved that line telling him that's exactly what he thought they looked like also. A bunch of lurking vampires.
Tom petty some of the best 80's 90's you'll hear
One of the best shows I can remember seeing, Steve Winwood Band opened up, I will never forget it. RIP Tom
Won’t back down is another one of his gems
Tom Petty is a substantial rabbit hole, a glorious rabbit hole! My list would be "You Don't Know How It Feels", "American Girl", "Here Comes My Girl", "The Waiting", "I Won't Back Down", "Even The Losers", "You Got Lucky", "Don't Do Me Like That", "Refugee", "A Woman In Love(It's Not Me)", "Breakdown", "Runnin' Down a Dream", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Don't Come Around Here No More", "Into The Great Wide Open".
respect to Brian May from Queen on guitar in that performance
That's Mike Campbell I think.
Looks a bit like May, but the playing style is way off.
One of the best American bands in Rock and Roll!! Constantly changing and staying fresh, no bad albums...not a one
Great comments...loose the logo though :) LOL......let's go Rangers.
@@Newfie-zc7ug Hehehe Well good luck this year, like your offseason moves so far. Go B's!!!😜
Love Tom Petty, check out The Traveling Wilbury's, he was a member.
I think what he meant by “I’m free… free falling…” was that he’s free from her and free on his own doing as he pleases, but also that he’s never been as high as when he’s with her; never been so happy or loved or loved as much. So in a sense, he’s free, but also falling.
I grew up listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Hard Promises was the first concert I ever went to. They are part of my soul. 🧡
RIP Tom Petty, please listen to more He's amazing
"American Girl", "Last Dance With Mary Jane" and "Running Down A Dream" are must-listens.
Tom was the master of making a simple song about every day life connect with his listeners. He constantly put out music that hits your soul. Anywhere from being hurt to feeling joy. 1.Breakdown is a great song to react to.
2. Fooled again is my personal favorite.
3. Alright for now is the song i sing to my Daughters before bed
I heard Tom say in an interview once that he wrote this song to prove anyone can make a hit using a generic four-chord progression with generic all-American love song lyrics. He was right, though I admit I enjoy the song.
John Prine One of his old old ones Sam Stone and one of his last ones 'Come on home' from 'Summers End. He died of Covid. RIP
Best song writer ever...
Over 40 years of music, timeless! 😢
Can’t believe he’s gone. One of the best. Part of the soundtrack of my youth.
Tom was a LEGEND. RIP. I don't think he made a song I didn't love. Please do more reactions to his music! ❤
I grew up with this band and can honestly say they never made a bad song.
Learning to fly live with Stevie Nicks. Beautiful song. It has helped me in the grief of my husband’s passing last year. Married 37 years.
Tom Petty, IMO, has the single best greatest hits album. Every single one is fantastic with zero filler songs unlike most greatest hits albums.
Getting a ton of great suggestions. I'll add "You Don't Know Hot It Feels".
Tom Petty, “I Won’t Back Down”,. Special Guest, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Beatles.and Jeff Lynn, ELO.
As a young man growing up in 90s this was a badass song to smoke a bowl and sit back and chill
I was a huge fan of Toms. He never fit in the box. RIP ☮️
Tom Petty Rote his own music and did songs for others as well. He was not considered great singer but he held is own.
*wrote. 🤦🏼♀️
Love your comments at the same end. Keep up the musical journey.
Love Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. 💜
Love how you break down the performances and comment. I enjoy hearing other reaction videos, too, but yours are special. Thanks for doing this!
Sounds the same live, love this man's music. Thank you for reacting.
I didn’t see anyone else suggest a couple of my favourites of Tom Petty’s to add to your list: “You Wreck Me” and “Saving Grace”
whether for reaction or just improving your life with the exposure of the greatness of Tom Petty's work, running through the entire discography, to include his side projects, and you will never feel it was wasted time...he was a gem to music.
Watching you watch this makes me appreciate this song much more deeply.
The band's name was The Heartbreakers.
How can you not break someone’s heart when you are Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The posterchildren for bad boys.
Love Tom Petty! Definitely try more of his stuff
Hop in a car, put on a Tom Petty mix, windows down, top down if you can, and just drive. Let the wind rip over you and the music take you wherever it wants.
I love everything in his albums💯✅🔥
Absolute must ! Lady Blackbird Angel dream . She owns that cover 👍👍👍👍👍 Five Fonzy's
Why have you not done more Petty? You are missing out! One of the best ever. He has tons of hits. Start with Won’t back Down. You won’t be sorry. RIP Tom.
The Guess Who is another group to check out. American Woman and These Eyes.
I'm so glad I got to see them live in 2005 PA.
You would love his crazy videos. I wish you didn't just do live for rock
More Tom 🎉🎉🎉
You need to listen to the studio version. This song or any other tom petty song. This man is legend.
“I want to be king” from him is so underrated, please check it out if have the time.
I’ve watched several of your reactions now... have to say, you have a really chill way of getting to the nuances. Nice! 😎
i love how the tempo follows the feeling of free falling sensation. it is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Love this your right be a good and respectful perso
Hard to pick because Petty was a master at his craft. Very few like him but Don't Come Around Here No More and Running Down a Dream are kinda awesome but then again so are Last Dance With Mary Jane, Won't Back Down and every other song he has written. R.I.P.
I love this song. First time on your channel. I scroll through and wanted to hear this song!!
As much as I love this song, the ultimate song for being free (aka the ultimate break-up song) is Free Bird - Lynryd Skynyrd
Please react to "You Got Lucky" with the official MTV video. It's indescribably awesome in all the best 80's ways possible. Mad Max was the mood. I promise. It's my favorite Tom Petty song, and it would be super cool to see! Thanks for being here!
Tom Petty... my favorite!
There are so many to do but I would love to see you do Don't Come Around Here No More!
I love Tom Petty. Also worth checking out Bob Dylan if you want similar music
Check out his album from the late 70's called Damn the Torpedo's....rock perfection!
Tom is the Goat in my opinion!
There is a really good Documentary about Tom Petty. Also since you haven't done Rush yet there is a great one on Netflix called Beyond The Lighted Stage. I would suggest starting with Working Man and realize they wrote that at 17 years of age.......
I worked with a guy that went to Woodstock, saw Zepplin , Hendrix in Winterland, The Stones and he said Tom Petty was the best live show he had seen.
He's one of the great American storytellers.
You're all over thinking it. He was just making up silly stuff to make producer Jeff Lynn laugh. He encouraged Tom to keep going, and suggested that Tom interject the words " Free Falling".
"Refugee" please! You will love it. It really showcases his iconic rock-n-roll voice. : )
My favorite, American Girl.
Did you know that a few years before he died, someone burned his house down? Stevie Nicks said " It didn't make sense, especially to someone as nice as Tom."
Won't Back Down another great one...💐
"It's about men in general..." You got it friend. Not all men, but a lot of young men--their desire to be free and wild. And the good girls that get their hearts broke a lot. I don't think they do it purposely--it's many times just thoughtlessness. You are right in what you said at the end. This song always makes me think of "Good Hearted Woman in Love with a Good Timing Man" (Waylon Jennings), which I've always despised. But Tom at least is writing about a man who realizes he is wrong and is hurting someone.
Honey bee is probably his most underrated song if you like a rock/blues vib
I love the sense of regret at the end.
i love this! the tom petty catalog is so immense and filled with many gems! if you get around to another tom petty song, i highly recommend 'echo'!
Yeah Toms the man
miss you Tom
The Legend
I don't think it is about setting out to "break her heart". I think the song is about needing space, feeling closed in on and breaking away from the, if you will, claustrophobia of the self defined by outside expectations. He is "free - free falling" because he is no longer caged by the pre-ordered life predicated from the demands of others. It isn't as simple as a fear of commitment, but rather a fear of the cage which eradicates the self-interest.
R.I.P. TOM PETTY
Breakdown… Is an awesome song by Tom Petty you should listen to just his greatest hits is a must have for so many people who like different kinds of music! Treat yourself!
Best artist
This was a song about drugs, Tom Petty had some serious problems with drugs, and this was his thoughts about all the young people that are hooked on narcotics. hence, Free Falling, great song, and I love your compassionate take on it
RIP Tom Petty. Gone too soon!
Watched quite a few of you reactions which I enjoy. Just wonder though, what rock have you been living under?
Never understood how most music reactors can possibly have never heard even half of the songs they react to.
Great storyteller
Those are how the Bad Boys roll!! Ha...All of us girls know!
You can't go wrong with Tom Petty.
Rest in peace tom petty
