Ever since then my little brother was never allowed to watch YT even YT kids for this reason. It’s frankly disturbing that this is still a problem, and I wish that there was some actual action being done to prevent or stop it entirely.

I'm a parent, I've got 2 kids in the elementary age group. They, myself, and my partner regularly play minecraft together on our family world. Its something that we do enjoy as a group; they also have tablets (with parental controls) and limited internet access. While they haven't gone down the rabbit hole of concerning videos on YT, I'm all too aware of how easy it is to bypass community guidelines especially with childrens' content. I remember years ago when RUclips removed thousands of videos, stuff like "SPIDERMAN gets ELSA pregnant!" or something similar; it might be high time YT take similar action now. Internet safety isn't something that my generation learned in school or by our parents so I feel like we are in a unique situation in teaching our kids the basics of internet safety, while having nothing to go on but learned experience.

We can safely deduct that modern day internet doesn't work with children. Monster school is not the first case of this kind of stuff, and it won't be the last.
Let's just hope people realize how bad of an idea it is to let the internet do the parenting for you.
EDIT: I feel like me saying "modern day" has awoken some, ehm, anger in the comments. My experience with the internet felt a lot safer back in the day, and platforms like RUclips weren't as popular or prevalent in our day-to-day lives(from what I can remember, my memory is about as good as a gold fish's). Might just be bias and me not knowing about this sort of stuff.

Nope. Too easy to give a kid open access to the internet. Literally just give them a device and let them do what they want, what a cheap babysitter... I have a niece that was making sex jokes at like 7 or 8. I won't say that is necessarily bad as sex education is important, but it is weird and I hope she doesn't get bad information. There is no telling what she has watched or who she has talked to online either. I hope she, and other kids like her, don't stumble upon wild shit that screws up their brain, like those gore sites or something.

I found out that Google has a Family Link app, where parents can monitor children's internet access, restrict time usage, etc. The problem is that it can't replace RUclips with the kids version as phone manufacturers turn them into system apps, making it impossible to delete it. Another problem is how are we going to convince parents to use the app?

I remember when the Internet was a bunch of sweaty nerds yelling 'asl' at each other over AIM and shock/'adult funtimes' sites with no parental controls. Where at age 12 you could pull ANY page - even ones featuring accident footage, beheadings and some of the most extreme 'adult funtimes' you can think of - without your parents' knowledge. The only reason this is considered an issue is more due to the ubiquity of the Internet in our lives these days, not due to there being LESS controls than previous times and the habit of parents to use the Internet as a cheap babysitter (political rant about lack of affordable childcare options removed). The modern Internet is VERY MUCH better controlled for kids and much more corporate and clean than it was way back in the day.

They changed the titles and all so they would click on it. But later, they noticed they weren't getting what they clicked on and hated it. So they came up with the solution to just do it. But here are 2 examples of why that doesn't necessarily always matter. Why do I get scam ads from "Mr Beast" when I never watch any of Mr. Beast's content and I don't fall for scams? Why do I get TikTok ads when I never watch TikTok and rarely ever even watch YT shorts? TikTok and the new Temu ads are so annoying, but anyways.

@@Gandhi_Physique Usually the Mr beast stuff abuses the algorithm and ends up tagging alot of things it isnt, which is why its a meme at this point because everyone has seen it.
You get tiktok ads because you dont watch tiktok, thats it, they target you because you dont have tiktok installed. If you use a VPN your ads will change drastically. Or you can just tell google not to do personalized ads(doesnt work all the time)

As a victim of parental restrictions, I can confirm RUclips kids is an absolute nightmare. You have no rights to do anything. All you can do is watch cringe videos. No comment, no subscribe, no nothing. It used to be different where some swear words would pass by but it’s gotten worse since I’ve fled from the platform. I do not recommend to anyone. Maybe my worst enemy

It is fine. You don't need to do a lot of that when you're 5.

@@Choccy_Donut I would say some restrictions should be removed by then, and even more at 13. Past that age, it isn't really possible to restrict content anymore if they talk to other people at all.
But by that time, a parent should have explained many times the dangers the internet has.
