    One thing I want to note about April 9th is that it wasn't JUST about the fire. It's about ALL serious events, especially the then recent 9/11 terrorist attacks. It uses the fire to present a smaller scale event that is much more personal to a child. Most children watching Arthur won't understand the gravity of an event like that, but most children have been through a fire drill at school and know that fire is no joke. The characters go through similar reactions a real child may go through following the news of a tragedy, be it a fire breaking out at school or a terrorist attack.
    Arthur was smart in that it didn't use real events in its story, as it could've weighed down the plot, confused and upset children watching, and poked at wounds that really needed time to heal. A fire can get all of the messages across without bringing in that baggage.
    Personally, 9/11 affected me greatly, even though I wasn't even born when it happened. My mother showed me a video about the topic when I was in Kindergarten and I think it was the first time I realized that really bad things could happen. The horror of such an event stuck with me and loomed over my head. When the anniversary of a shooting in my hometown I was very alive for was coming up, a realized that I have really bad anxiety around tragic events, the main three being the shooting, 9/11, and Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, though I feel it around Memorial Day and Holocaust Remembrance Day.
    April 9th is a very important episode to me, not just because it's about a fire, but because when I saw it, I was better able to understand my complex feelings surrounding these dates. No Arthur episode could compare.

      I was very much a sixth grader when 9/11 happened, living in the south US. Saw the replay of the planes crashing into the towers. It gave me nightmares, up to the point I saw the high jackers in my dream take me and my grandma hostage at her home. I was truly an anxious child when it f came to ✈️.

    The problem I had with the New Arthur episodes is that Elwood's technology seemed half planted in 1996 *and* jarringly modernized at the same time and it's like, "Pick a time period - either you're a town frozen in the mid-90s tech wise or you're desperately trying to stay relevant to then-current trends. You can't have both."

    • @Felamine
      @Felamine 11 месяцев назад +4

      There's also a weird timewarp thing going on because in the early episodes, Arthur's and other kids' parents grew up in the 70s disco era. Then in a newer episode, Muffy's parents were teenagers in 1993 (which tracks with Muffy saying in an early season that her mom is 40 years old).

    I know I am two years late on this video, but I honestly related to Binky in the April 9th episode because when I was 4, my oven caught on fire and I was right next to the oven when it happened. I developed a fear of ovens and seeing fire scared the living bajeezus out of me. I actually had a dream about fire last night, so fire is still persistent in my dreams. I don't think it's the same reason, maybe something else, but nonetheless, it's probably my favourite episode.

    I'd say the worst episode, it's a newer one, not sure which early episode you'd compare it to(Although the one it was back to back to had similarities to April 9th.)
    The Longest 11 Minutes. Where everyone had brought electricals to Arthur's house to go on the internet(which they'd never done before) They weren't all even playing the same game. The internet goes down, they panic. They don't recognise an old camera... what was that thing Arthur has in every intro?
    Just I get the impression it was written by somebody who has never seen an episode of Arthur before.... Will say I liked that hey came up with a way to rescue the bird, but other than that, worst episode.
    Dishonourable mention to Great Lint Rush, and other Kate talking to Pal episodes.

      Make sense. That seems like an easy cope out, but can be a valid argument. For example, DW's old voice actors have always been boys, but since the switch to flash, it became very obvious that she was being voiced by a boy. Not to mention that the VA doesn't do a decent job at voice acting.

    I think the show's creators were already starting to run out of episode ideas when the new seasons were releasing. 🤔 For the episode "So Funny I Forgot to Laugh" I feel they shouldn't have chosen Arthur to be the bully in that episode cuz it's really out of character for him to tease and bully others, they should have used Muffy, Francine, the Tibble twins, or Binky for that episode. Also another episode I didn't like was "Sue Ellen veggies out" cuz Sue Ellen in my opinion acts like a liberal douchebag acting like it's better to be vegan 😤
