This video has given me the courage to try this myself. I'm too old to pull the tank and it's too expensive to get someone else to do it. I think the size of a sheet of copy paper at 8 1/2 by 11 inches is what I'll trace around after coming 20 inches off that door frame. I can do most anything, if I do it a little bit at a time and think it through. Thank you for this video. Your measurements sold me.
Thanks for the video. I have a 1998 Taurus with 72,000 miles and the fuel pump went out. I live in the rust belt and the tank and lines are rusty and didn't want to open up a can of problems. Did exactly what you showed and said, worked perfectly. Saved me a lot of headaches and had her back on the road in no time.
I have done this before in other cars. I just can't understand why these car makers WON'T put a "door" over the damn pump. I know, it would cost 50 cents to stamp a door into the metal. It would save you from pulling the tank which can be a nightmare.... Some cars have this door, but not many! Thanks for the video!!
I'm grateful for your video it's very helpful to my project replacing the fuel pump I don't have a garage and I can't drop the tank so thank you from the bottom of my heart God has blessed me today through you.
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus and I’m gonna try this method tomorrow. I don’t have access to a lift or time to drop the tank so I’m taking this route. W thank you for your video! Big help! 🤙🏾
Thanks for the video! It works for my 2004 Taurus. I was finally able to get the seat out today and get it done. Had to come back and say thanks. I wish you had made a video on removing that seat too. It was beast.
@@BRWfilms I replaced the entire sending unit, including a new pump inside the unit. Make sure you pay attention to the orientation of the pump while taking it out, so you put it back the same way.
@@MG38601 I finally got that driver side connector but it was a tough one. To any one reading this you probably will need to take the tank straps loose and let it sag down a good bit to get that left side connector un clipped and then to fish the new one down there. The passenger side connector wasn't so bad 2000 tarus
I have a 96 Ford Taurus the same color, my Taurus has 733,000 Miles, with the original timing chain an original front and rear seal, you still have a lot of life left in that car, the car has a double roller timing chain
For the person experiencing fuel pump problems on the Gen 3 Taurus, know this, most auto parts stores want $150. to $200. for the complete fuel pump assembly. You may only need the fuel pump kit, which runs about $50. The fuel pump assembly includes the fuel pump and the sending unit. Do you need a new sending unit? Probably not.
Genius !!! Seriously this is brilliant , I have to replace my fuel pump and I'm gonna do it thos way since I'm not made of money 😁 thanks for the idea 💡
Replacing the fuel pump in a station wagon is the same location the wheelbase is the same so the fuel tank is in the same location no difference 108.5 wheelbase station wagon or sedan so fuel tank is in the exact same location
Hey thanks for the video man I have a Ford Taurus 2006 but the fuel pump is in the same spot I used an air chisel to cut the hole worked really well and easy
@@paucinator8786 Yes it is in the same place as the fuel pump on this car mine was a 2006 and it's in the same place just for a note the center line of the fuel pump is pretty much lined up with the seat belt bolt on the passenger side Hope that helps
Yeah you help me out know where that damn fuel pump is now the exact location I don't want to cut off somewhere where I didn't know where it was exactly 9:36
Great I have a Taurus with a bad fuel pump. Too old to pull the tank too poor to pay someone I can afford a $20 grinder at Harbor Freight and a $40 ebay fuel pump. Now I know where to cut.
Oh by the way I had to figure it out on my own because no one mentions it a station wagon and the sedan have the same wheelbase which means the fuel tank is in the same location I didn't know this I was trying to find somebody working on a station wagon doing the same thing putting a new
Sorry Sir just seen this. I'm sorry but I can't remember, I don't believe it was difficult. I do remember getting the exact pump so nothing would have to be modified. Reason I can't give you more I'm slowly losing memory and it's difficult. My wife helped me to write this to you. Take care.
Sorry I just seen this and you probably are finished by now. I used silicone for outdoor use and put duck tape over the silicone. Sorry it took so long to reply.
@@brian19644 Thank you for replying and yes Thank you i did finish the job and pretty much did the same thing as you . Thank you for the video it was very helpful.
The only thing I done, was remove the gas cap. When I disconnected the hoses at the fuel pump only a drop of gas came out. Hope that answers your question Sir.
@@BRWfilms yes, leave the back cut lightly scored so you don't remove the whole panel, just a hinge. There is a connector forward of the rear passenger tire. You have to disconnect that to give enough slack to remove the pump assembly. ADVICE. Tie a string on the end of that cable connector, it will make it 1000 percent easier fishing it back under the car and plugging it back in. Was not really that big of a deal.

The passenger side connector wasn't so bad

You were right! I cut exactly where and lo and behold there was the fuel pump. Mine was a 2004 Mercury and it was the same. Thank you so much.

How about using a "nibbler" tool, should that minimize sparking?
What if theres a fuel leak from pump? Wont that nake a nice big BOOM? IF THERES SPARKS
Thanks man! I think I might go this route bc it's convenient 🤔.
I hate dropping tanks to access this shit.

What did you use to seal up the access hole once you replaced the fuel pump?

GO SLOW ON THE BACK CUT - The gas tank is 1/16th of an inch away & evap hoses touch the floor on the LR
Does this work on an 03?
I'm sorry but that I can't answer.
Actually doing it this way is 10 times more dangerous than going under the vehicle
It is if all Safety precautions are not followed
If you don't have some sense, yeah it's dangerous
To keep the fold in position, sounds like a cult leader…….

Lol this isn't the movies. Worse that will happen is some fire, but highly unlikely
