Great video. I would like to ask how do you time the intake cam with the exhaust cam if you need to remove the adjustable timing mechanism?
you forgot to change the timing belt for the oil pump thats running in oil aswell now you was changing the timing belt.
I reckon someone has boken part of metal inside timing cover on previous timing belt replacement. Hence bits you found in cover and belt damage.

unfortunately, the coolant system was not vacuumed before filling up, which can cause serious overheating spots -> cylinder head deformations
Nice work! Going to do the same on my Passat in the spring. Do you have the torque spec for the bolts regarding the timing belt? :)

I would only do this job with the locking tools 🛠️. It’s just not worth the risk or hassle.

This is the same engine that’s in my 2015 Jetta with 197k miles on it. Had the timing belt kit and water pump replaced at 130k now it’s making a noise at start up but goes away after it warms up. Think it’s time to do it all again? The chatter is definitely coming from inside the timing cover. It’s been noisy the last 20k miles. I’m asking because the cooling is intermittently failing causing the ac to be inconsistent. This is the second time the fan assembly has failed. Many thanks for your feedback

Have you tried removing the alternator belt and running from cold just to rule out the A/C compressor? I would say though that 70,000 miles is probably a good time to replace cambelt and waterpump.

I think you should've loosened the HPFP bolt as well
It's different TYPE of fuel pump and you can't slack spoked same as on camshaft. Normalnie there should be 3 bolts but non there .
What socket did you use for the stud bolts ?
Neilsen CT15804PC they are available from Amazon. When removing the studs these are fine to use with ratchet. For installing the new studs I use by the socket by hand and then you can use two nuts tightened against each other to get them torqued up

@@WhildeAutomotiveLTDwhere are you based? I have a Passat wx19pjy 40k miles do I have to replace the belt and water pump as it's 5 years old in may ?... How much will you charge? I've got the ina belt and water pump kit ( had bad experience in the past when mechanic changed me for continental kit and fitted cheapest nastiest kit on a different car so since then I like to buy the parts if you don't mind)

Yea some passat’s have an inline engine depending on drive train and engine type. If yours is inline it will mean that the front bumper would need to be removed and the front rad pack need to be either removed or spaced away from engine to give you the space to work.
