Mean BMI was lowest in vegans (23.6 kg/m2) and incrementally higher in lacto-ovo vegetarians (25.7 kg/m2), pesco-vegetarians (26.3 kg/m2), semi-vegetarians (27.3 kg/m2), and nonvegetarians (28.8 kg/m2). Prevalence of type 2 diabetes increased from 2.9% in vegans to 7.6% in nonvegetarians; the prevalence was intermediate in participants consuming lacto-ovo (3.2%), pesco (4.8%), or semi-vegetarian (6.1%) diets. After adjustment for age, sex, ethnicity, education, income, physical activity, television watching, sleep habits, alcohol use, and BMI, vegans (OR 0.51 [95% CI 0.40-0.66]), lacto-ovo vegetarians (0.54 [0.49-0.60]), pesco-vegetarians (0.70 [0.61-0.80]), and semi-vegetarians (0.76 [0.65-0.90]) had a lower risk of type 2 diabetes than nonvegetarians.

All the epidemiology shows the same thing. We can put you on skittles and doritos diet on caloric deficit and see improvements.
The question is what is healthiest in the long term. I bet with every bite your LDL is raising forming plaques build up in your arteries.
Use your head and don't fall for fads and diet cults.. the thinnest healthiest longest living populations eat low fat high carb plang based.. that is tried and true long term..

This was SO GOOD! I’m just getting a grip on what insulin resistance is. I knew it was important, because when my fasting insulin fell into a healthier range I felt the “shift” in my body. My previous level was 34, 10 months before the “shift”. Then 10 months of ketovore and suddenly something inside felt very different. I suspected insulin resistance had decreased, so I went in for re-testing and it was 11.
So now I’m learning everything I can about what the heck just happened! Of course I lost 70 pounds, 8” from my waist, 7” from my hips, 3” from my arm, 3” from my thigh, joint pain is GONE, acid reflux is GONE, depression is GONE, brain fog is GONE, low energy is GONE. But I know more healing has taken place than I can even name, because I don’t really understand how all my systems work together. Sad that, at age 64, I don’t know more about how my own body works. But I’m learning now, and I really appreciate professionals like you who work so tirelessly to help educate people like me.
This is the first I’ve heard of leptin- resistance. Fascinating! THANK YOU for doing this interview!
“Protect the liver, feed the gut”.

I'm hoping to change my brain fog more than any other symptom.i walk around with a black cloud..
Can I ask what you typically eat in a day?
I can already feel lighter after 3 days of unprocessed food. ❤

    • @ChoosingToLive1
      @ChoosingToLive1 11 месяцев назад +1

@@sellbydate You will not be disappointed in this approach. Joint pain, brain fog and mental stability are restored very quickly when all processed foods are eliminated and only fatty red meat & animal fats are added. I normally stick with beef, because that's what makes me feel best, and I really like it in all it's forms. A normal day for me: I wake up at 5 am and have coffee, usually black but sometimes with heavy whipping cream. I get hungry sometime between 10-noon and usually have a couple of hamburgers fried in bacon grease, or meatballs cooked in the air fryer. Sometimes I have bacon (a whole pound if I'm that hungry), steak (with garlic butter of course!), pork chops (with lots of butter), an omelet or breakfast casserole. Depending on how much I ate at noon, and how active I was, I may not be hungry again until the next day. But if I am hungry that evening, I'll have hamburgers, steak, meatballs, pork chops, taco bowl, stroganoff bowl, deviled eggs, crab cakes & homemade tarter sauce, chuck roast, beef brisket, seafood (crab legs, shrimp or scallops) with lemon butter or bacon-wrapped beef liver bites with mustard (SO GOOD). You will be amazed how much freedom comes from eating just meat and animal fats. It tastes delicious, is easy to prepare and keeps you full for a LONG time, so you don't have to eat as often. Carbohydrate cravings disappear after the first week or two, so you just need to power through that with unlimited amounts of your favorite meat and fats (mine is bacon). When out and about and temped to eat, I just remind myself I can have a whole pound of bacon when I get home if I want. And sometimes I do! YOU CAN DO THIS!

Insulin resistance means in simple terms as- the cells do not take or resist the instructions given by the hormone insulin in the blood. This hormone is made and released from the pancreas when there is so much glucose in the blood after your meal, to tell cells to take in glucose inside the cells and store excess glucose as glycogen for future use when needed.

Healthy is different to different people. I can’t eat vegetables because itcauses mass joint inflammation. I can’t spice my food. It causes me diarrhea. I can’t eat cheeses. It gives me asthma. What doesn’t bother me is meat and eggs. I’m carnivore since April of last year and I’m better in all three areas. So to me healthy is not using an inhaler. Healthy is not having chronic diarrhea. Healthy is not having joint inflammation. I did my bloodwork in January 10 1/2 months into the carnivore diet and my triglycerides were down to 90 from 172 my HDL was up to 62.5 from 35 and my VLDL was 18. Total cholesterol 250 don’t care. LDL 170 don’t care and neither did my doctor. He was happy with the other numbers. My calcium score was off the charts and I said not bad for not taking supplements or eating much dairy. He said then where do you get your calcium? Doctors don’t understand the more garbage you eat the more supplements you need to take. Take away the garbage and eat the proper human diet and you don’t need supplements.

Agree! I’m ketovore/carnivore as well and don’t eat any fiber, as you’re aware of as well. That said, how do we respond to a doctor like this who says we should eat a lot of fiber? Does red meat and beef provide us with enough fiber?

i recommend you take pauses from red meat, eat fish for a week or eggs once in a while. i discovered that to much protein spikes blood sugar as well. take care to eat butter and animal fats. also, not eating for 24 hours is also surprisingly efficient in combatting sugar cravings. people tell me that eating meat like i and you do is really bad for digestion - but, I shit way less, I do not have the dreaded " oh my god, I need to take a dump, but there is no toilet in sight" anymore, my stomach is kinda flat, and my flatulence i had since my youth and that i took for kinda normal is completely gone. dont eat stuff thats lets you fart and makes shitting uncomfortable, thats my rule of thumb. good luck, you rock. oh yeah my migraine almost vanished. another tip: avoid seed oil. it is really kinda slow, but i have the feeling that my energy levels are begining to get better after cutting seed oils out. i am in the 3. month of completely avoiding seed oils.

She had childhood arthritis, joint replacements in her teens, took her years to figure out that her body will only work on beef and lamb. Every time she tried to add other healthy foods her body reacts horribly. She just gave birth to a healthy baby boy while doing the lion diet and she doesn't have any problems with deficiencies. 😊

I’m on Keto since May. I 100% agree with you, however, on the issue of pills treating the symptoms… people don’t care. They want to continue to eat refined carbs, sugars… and then take a pill than go around eating real food and fibre!!! The amount of people who say to me when they see I have lost weight and I say “I’m on keto” their response is “isn’t that dangerous? Can’t you die from that?” As their standard answer!!! My brother recently got his gall bladder removed unnecessarily, he wouldn’t listen to me that he should change his diet!! He’d rather listen to the “doctor” and keep the s**t he eats in his diet!!! 😂😂

They’ve done a horrible job, so far, with protecting citizens from harmful foods and drugs. I don’t know why we should expect them to behave differently in the future. “Hands off” is the most helpful thing they can do.

Let uninformed people make their choices and then learn from them-or die. Example: my husband and I are lifelong nonsmokers, along with both our brothers. Why? Because both his parents, plus my father, and my maternal grandmother, smoked like a chimney? I saw my beloved gramma pass at 60 of lung cancer. My Dad had a double bypass at 60-narrowed arteries clog quicker. My husband’s father died at 68 of morbid obesity, heart disease, diabetes…my m-i-l lived to be 87 but she broke a hip (smoking, poor nutrition) at 82 and life went downhill from there.
If people die from their bad choices, those around them will hopefully LEARN SOMETHING, and make better choices.

Simple carbs, sugar is fuel for our body. Elite athletes train hard for hours a day, burning 7000 cals, so the sugar doesn't linger as high blood glucose for extended time. They don't need shitton of insulin as muscles can utilize BG, O2 without insulin. Long term overload of insulin causes insulin resistance & type 2 diabetes, most important hi BG + IR lead to cardio vascular inflammation, unused carbs stored as body fats, that kill over time.

Have your nose in the track with your exiting job, but the day you are supposed to enjoy your after work life. More and more people will realize and not be fooled any longer about this.Sort of, What the hell!, here i work hard , have all the respect in the world, I damn didnt have time to also be a food expert, then the shelf products steal life away from me. @@miraak8523 As exercise intensities above 50 or 60% of VO2max, ATP demands increase significantly. Fat cannot entirely meet the rate of ATP synthesis, so glycogen breakdown, and glucose oxidation increase.
At rest, your muscles only utilize about 20% peripheral glucose. Whereas at higher intensity exercise, that number goes up exponentially to around 85%.
The bottom line is, having more glycogen available means you can train at a higher intensity for longer. Low glycogen means early fatigue and exhaustion.

Dr Lustig, I felt you were on the right track when you expressed a desire to get rid of governmental food subsidies. But then you turned around and advocated for MORE government subsidies and manipulation of people’s lives.
Please reconsider. Your motives are good, but more government interference can only bring more troubles. The free market is self-correcting through the law of supply and demand. I think you underestimate the amazing speed and influence of truth to get disseminated via the internet. Vegans are becoming sick and turning to ketogenic, meat-based diets to solve their problems. People who already love meat and realize that most “food” items are fattening us all up like CAFO steers, see the light even quicker! Now there is greater demand for all meat and fish, but especially beef. The old commercial is spot-on for Anericans: BEEF! It’s what’s for dinner!
If government will stop the subsidies to already-rich companies, and eliminate even 80% of the restrictive laws that keep our small family farmers in chains, and interfere with farm-to-consumer direct sales, the market will correct itself over time, as increased demand spurs an increase in supply. Those who have a reasonable income can afford the steak and line-caught salmon, will buy them, and those who truly have limited means will buy the hamburger and sardines until supply increases and prices go down.
All this government interference and societal interference is just a form of socialism, and, no matter the good intentions of the planners, will have increased fallout of misery for those just trying to live their lives. Please don’t advocate government-based solutions, which ALWAYS, ultimately, create more and greater problems. With all due respect, even a truly knowledgeable person like yourself, should not be manipulate individuals “for their own good”. The lure of power to reshape whole societies can infect even you.
Don’t try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig. Educate people; use your powerful oratory to influence them, and stop there.

The government can do a lot to improve the health of the public without banning sugar. By changing the dietary guidelines and establishing that sugar and starches should be eaten sparingly and that protein should be the basis of our diet, a lot of stuff can change: food at hospitals, food for the armed forces, food at schools, food at retirement homes, food covered by food stamps and WIC programs. It also can stop subsidizing the production of sugar and starches and instead support animal farming and healthy soils. And it can support education programs like how it has been done regarding smoking. People that want to smoke can still smoke, but the government is not helping people pay for cigarettes and doesn't have guidelines saying that smoking is good
