- The West is raining innumerable sanctions on Russia after President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. Digital wallet platforms and online payment systems Google Pay and Apple Pay have barred several Russian customers. This has led to chaos across Russia with people queuing up outside ATMs and finding it difficult to make payments at metro stations. The international business of Russia's five largest banks, VTB Group, Sovcombank, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Otkritie, can not proceed normally. Watch this video to know more details.

Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is a very solid payment method, better than gpay and apple pay.
India should expand it to Russia and help our brethren. It will be a mutual benefit.
Plus points - its extremely fast, and connects to the end user properly. I have, in all my yrs of its usage, never had a single transaction money failed. Some cases might be there, but money gets refunded almost instantly.
Mind you, i have done transactions worth 20 lakhs or so in past few yrs, that translates to about 26.5k $ or 2656400 roubles!

the cards of some banks will not be able to be used with Apple Pay, Google Pay services, but standard contact or contactless payment with these cards is available in full throughout Russia (from google)
In Russia they have no UPI only Cards that's why Google can stop them in their app !!

In India Google pay , phonepe , Paytm allows us to add our cards also and they can stop those cards using their servers but can't stop UPI directly as it's server is under NPCI's control
