If you haven't heard, this story has had a bit of a development since we published. On Wednesday, August 23, the Russian military shot down Yevgeny Prigozhin's plane outside of Moscow. Prigozhin was listed as a passenger and is presumed dead. It's very likely part of Vladimir Putin's effort to reconsolidate power after Prigozhin's mutiny in June.
It's a dramatic end to Prigozhin's story, but just another example of how Putin's system works. And how he deals with those that challenge it. Thanks for watching.

Wagner inviaded Ukraine 2014? What are you smoking? Ukraine army was killing russians citizens from Donbas and other aeras for almost 8 years until russia launched the special operation to stop the crime against humanity in eastern ukraine. Not to mention about US foreign minister and NATO president promised russia that "Not an inch to the east" after germany unification yet NATO expanded the border all the way to Russia. Are you going to talk about it and blame the west and US for current situation? Otherwise, you are a fool for taking money for false information which the brits are good at becuase the brits are nothing but pusxy for being weak and cant fight. Just the talk like yourself.

There is also an underlying issue between Prigozhin and Shoigu that wasn't mentioned in the video and which I believe was the driving factor in the disputes between the two mentioned. Shoigu has his own PMC and during the entire battle of Bakhmut and even later on Wagner was receiving less and less ammo and supplies from the goverment. This in part drove the Prigozhin to publicly criticize Shoigu and Gerasimov which was then used as an excuse to give Yevgeny's Concord Catering worse and worse goverment contracts, threatening to drop them completely. In the end the whole thing boiled down to money. If not for the conflict of interests the Wagner coup would probably never have happened.

    • @mnikelonkatazo
      @mnikelonkatazo 24 дня назад

The whole thing of a Prigozhin coup is a media creation, he was marching to the headquarters of the Russian military, would have he stopped the?, I don't know. The main person he had problems with was Shoigu. That's why Putin solved it by just calling a meeting between them.

It's because they don't believe there is such a thing. Europeans think they are somehow free, that their leaders in Brussels are not corrupt, and that the entire continent is not under USA occupation. This is even though there are all the US military bases around Europe and the national leaders keep making decisions contrary to their national interests but in favor of USA global interests. The media in Europe is pure brainwashing and they don't see it. They think they are somehow good morally and most of all, better than everyone else and this is perpetuated by that same media. Hi guys. I'm thrilled with the work you are doing. I've been following Johnny Harris since he was at Vox with Borders.
What you are doing here is more than journalism, it's Art.
I've seen in the promotional video on this channel you guys saying we could suggest some video topics.
If you find it interesting and in the context of what is going on in Eastern Europe right now, there was a bank fraud in Moldova. Around 1 billion dollars (10% of its National GDP) were stolen from the banking system of the poorest country in Europe (Moldova). This happened in 2014, and since then, after 9 years, an ex prime minister was convicted, not really related to this, but kinda connected to it. All the supposed felons fled the country, and till now no one is really held responsible.
The justice system in the country is corrupt to its core and perpetuated over time. Depopulation is at its peak.
Maybe you guys could bring more light into this.

Moscow has 13mln population & very complex city structure. In every window could be potential soldier & there are millions of windows. It's impossible to take such city with 25k army. That said, Wagner group didn't planned to fight in Moscow.
There're 2 possible options why they did it:
    1. To showcase his power for Russians & create a risk of revolution to have a better position when negotiating with Putin.
    2. It was all orchestrated by Kremlin to create a narrative that Wagner group are rebels & Kremlin has no longer power over them. Then Wagner can operate in Belarus as "independent" group & terrorise NATO countries, without going to full scale war with NATO.
Never forget that wagner was & will be Russian army, they're not independet company, it's a narrative to terrorize other countries without consequences for Russian gov.

In the beginning of the video, I thought that the author would tell the objective neutral information. But he decided to go for "Pootin is wEak. His power is dwindling. He will fail" narrative.
I think the most logical thing would be to assume that Wagner was called to the front to plug some holes, stabilize the situation and buy some time for Russian military to reorganise after the Kherson and Kharkov retreats. So that Wagner would tie the Ukrainian army and keep it occupied. Which they succeeded. Instead of developing the momentum in the Fall of 2022 when the Russian army was at the lowest (zero morale after Kherson and Kharkov, low numbers, low equipment and ammo production, no fortifications anywhere) the Ukraine decided to throw its reserves into the Bakhmut grinder, completely playing to the Russian plan. And the Wagner was doing its job fine. Its popularity and support was rising. But then the Prigozhin wanted to get even more power. That's when he started publicly criticize the military so that he would get a chance to put his men there and become even more powerful. The Russian MoD didn't like this idea and the fact that tens of thousands of trained men with heavy weaponry were effectively not under their direct command. And so the Russian MoD decided to make it clear: either the Wagner becomes the part of the Army or it should not appear on the frontline as a potential liability. The Prigozhin caught wind of it and decided to go all-out since he believed that the population and the top military officers would support him. But it never happened. That's why the mutiny ended that quickly.
But even now it's unclear who killed Prigozhin. The most obvious would be the Russian leadership since he was posing a significant threat to it. The less popular theories would be the Wagner itself (to clear its name), the Ukrainian/Western intelligence agencies (to remove the two top leaders of Wagner and stir additional discontent among its supporters).

Russia's neo-feudal political structure is suffering from the same flaws as regular feudalism. Namely, that it can only succeed when regular citizens are apathetic but also considerable resources are spent/hoarded from the lords 'fighting' each other.
When your everyday person doesn't care about the war and your lords are constantly fighting each other, you've vastly limited the resources you can deploy/spend on a war. It's why the much smaller Ukraine is able to defend itself -- practically all of its citizens and powerful people are engaged towards a single goal. Meanwhile, in Russia, it's simple game theory that the lords that are spending resources on the Ukraine war are doing an idiotic thing. Why not pocket the money and use it fight your rivals? Any ruble spent on the war is a ruble not available when the shit hits the fan -- for example if Putin suddenly dies or some other faction makes its move against you or Putin himself.
There are many reasons feudalism isn't used anymore, but one of the biggest reasons is that other political structures are better able to deploy more resources and they out-competed their feudal neighbors.
Putin's view of history is myopic, reactionary, and extremely Russian exceptionalistic. Because of that, he really only had two models to draw from -- USSR-style politburo politics and imperial Russia politics. It's no surprise that his government is setup like feudalism but run like the politburo USSR days.

I'm not sure I see close enough analogs to feudalism here. Although I'm sure that oligarchs and officials have their security groups, I'm unaware of any private armies, which we would see in feudalism. I think this is still totalitarianism, and although he's designed conflict into the system, it's not the same as principalities and kingdoms, because he's got his fingers everywhere. Feudalism generally relies on military control, and feudal states have notable autonomy. The security forces and oligarchs don't appear to fit the idea of feudal states.
