Hi guyss!!!!!!! Today I'm coming at you with a classic Thrift Haul! It feels like forever since I've done one of these hahaha, I had a lot of fun just talking through how I plan these outfits. I wanted to show a little bit more about how I mix my already-existing vintage items with new-to-me thrifted "modern" items. I hope it's helpful and that you like this format!

HIIII GUYS! I hope you like this sorta-different format for this thrift haul! Please tell me your weird/interesting thrift store stories GOOO
Rachel Maksy I liked this haul a lot - I’m very basic lol 30% off seems like slot - thank you
What a fun video! It was nice to see your process of how to style something in your actual closet. It inspired me to try to play around with clothes I already own.
Yeah it was cool! Also your closet looks great with all those earthy tones:)
Thanks for enabling my new blue J Crew cashmere sweater. I've been looking for one to match the gray one I bought on clearance for ages. This is all your fault. :-D
Rachel Maksy *nifty tip* you can make the back part of the tie (the narrow part) longer than usual so that once it’s tied the front part (the wide part) is short and to the desired length then just tuck the back part in your shirt between a couple of buttons.
Rachel’s looks have been slowly shifting further and further back in time and I’m here for it
Also holy shit she’s almost 300k
Hahaha yiss 😂🙏
Rachel Maksy I remember when I subscribed to you when you were only like 80k 😭 I’m so proud of you! ❤️
Rachel: I'm going for a 1930s college boy meets Amelia Earhart look. Does this... tickle your fancy?
Me, bi, profusely sweating: ..yes
😂😂😂😂🙈
A big mood
Oh my GOD what a mood
Yep.
Yes what a mood that I agree with
"This is a little to simple for me." I don't know, Rachel. The pajama pants are really a statement piece here.
Hahaha TRUE really got some artistic pattern clashing happening
@@rachelmaksy I mean, I'm here for it. Pj pants are the best
Those trousers don’t need to go so hard to seduce me but here we are
😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈
You went from school girl to teacher to detective.
I need that cardigan
The school boy preppy look with the too long tie was so cute, kinda reminded me of dead poet society. 100% seduced
😂😂🙏🙏 oh captain my captain!
Agreed
5 year plan:
1. Develop amazing Maksy wardrobe.
2. Become an archeologist.
3. Live my best life.
#WWEW
Sounds great
I can tell you if you become an archaeologist there will not be many occasions to wear pretty things. I wish I had known this before^^
@@isabellaw.6330 what do you wear? What are you digging up?
You're collar at the beginning is...*chef's kiss* perfect!!!
Heehee thank you bb!
Yup. Need the deets on the Victoria collar!
When you said 'the museum needs me' I immediately thought of The Mummy's Evelyn.
Ah yes, the two pillars of Rachel’s fashion sense: Hobbits and Evelyn.
Rachel being an fashionable delight for 22 minutes straight
Could you do a wardrobe tour, would like to see what is in there, because I love your style 💕
Yes! I'll be filming one for next week 🤗
Yes!!!
Yeah that's cool!
Hurray!!
I love when you look like an archaeology professor who is needed in the jungle ... it belongs in a museum!
Standing O for that Indy reference, friend 👏👏👏👏
Rachel: *Effortlessly puts together multiple vintage outfits that look amazing*
Tie option: tie it so that the skinny tail is extra long and the fat part is short. Hide skinny tail in shirt by tucking between chest buttons. Period correct + short tie ✅
"What do I have that's not brown?" Me but with blue or black
Haha same 🤣
Sameeee😂
Ungraceful Archimedes I own so many navy sweaters 😂😂😂😂
me with forest green
“The museum needs me I gotta go”
😂😂😂😂
Watching you struggle to undo your tie made me flashback to when I had to cut myself out of an old dress I thought would still fit me (I kept the fabric, but I feel like it's probably cursed)
Oh man I'm dreading the day I'll have to do that 😂 I've had a few close calls hahaha
Took me back to getting stuck in a shirt at target. One of my scariest moments. Thought I was gonna have to call my mom 😭 this is why I don't shop alone anymore
Samantha Sallak
Hahaha...that has totally happened to me! Just who thought, it was a good idea, to make a top without a closure from nonstretchy material, is what I want to know! Once you’re stuck...it’s get help, or rip it like you’re the Hulk 😆
@@raraavis7782 seriously though! It was either call mom or ask an employee for help. And I ain't doing that. 😆
I once had to cut myself out of a wonderwoman costume I created out of ducttape with a giant kitchen knife. I won the costume contest though so I would say it was worth it.
I have to say I'm desperate for a new installment of "But Make it Vintage".
I really love how androgynous some of these looks are!! i love vintage styles, but so many channels are mainly womenswear 24/7 & that’s not exactly my cup of tea. It makes me happy to see more vintage menswear ❤️
Love the more in depth try on and thought process! Also I think the romantic hair style is my favourite one yet, goes so well with super feminine outfits and gives such a soft flair to the more masculine outfits
Heehee thank you love!!!
Gem thrift store find: I live in the Pacific Northwest and I recently went to our thrift store and found a triangle shawl made in the Republic of Ireland(I assume it is from the 70’s). It is pure linen hand loomed. Paid $8 for it
When I have ties that are too long: I cut a bit off at the narrow end which hangs at the back making it shorter and just neatly hand sew it. ❤️
Ooo I gotta try that!
Rachel: *casually buttoning buttons*
Me, at home: THEHARDESTBUTTONTOBUTTON!
I so admire your aesthetic, especially when it comes to trousers. Therefore I just made my first ThreadUp order, 6 pairs of pants, which retail would have cost me $470 dollars and with the site was over 80% off that price. Thank you so much for bringing this lovely site to my attention.
Rachel be like:its so cold lets cover every milimeter of my body with warm clothes
Also rachel be like:oh my what a great time to not wear socks who need socks in the winter anyway
A true Hobbit
@@ariannarasmussen5205 when you are a true hobbit and you cannot hide it
you don't need a shorter tie, you can just tie it in such a way that the wide end falls where you like it. then tuck the skinny end into your shirt between the buttons
When you love fashion but you don't have any money so you just end up wearing sweat pants everyday. Hopefully someone can relate.
In my case it's leggings x
Oooooh the amelia earheart/schoolboy mashup look is SO FREKKING AMAZING
Love, Love, Love watching you put these outfits together and talking about what drew you to the modern clothes or what elements of the modern clothes had a vintage feel!
I'm glad!!! ❤️❤️
the cream/yellow vest with the blue skirt...WINNER... it actually gave me a regency dandy vibe
Hehehehe
I appreciate Editing Rachel, just sayin'. That was a lot of buttons. ♥️
i’m obsessed with her blue shirt that she wore during the entire video. wow
Just went thrifting found a skirt that can be Edwardian, the 40s, 70s, or be Phoebe Buffay. plus cardigans
Last time I was this early Rachels channel was still called Pinup Companion 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
This video feels like playing dress up with Rachel! So much fun, and outfit inspiration!
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Am in love with the process!makes it so much easier to understand when you're changing your style to vintage. Also- your hair while showing clothes is literally the prettiest
Yay!! ❤️❤️❤️
11:30 gave me very ww2 land girl vibes and it is beautiful
Yesss!!
Snap! That's right!🤩
I really like this format. I found my self responding to your comments as if you could hear me. Ha!
Okay, I totally bought that wild fable cropped button-up AGES ago because I was inspired by your channel. I'm feeling extremely validated with my purchase now :)
The cream vest needs to go with that emerald green skirt I assume that is visible in the frame on the lower rack
Ok, that cream vest would look bomb with that green skirt!
Can you make a vintage version of Dana scully from the x files? please 🥺
IM DYING FOR THAT COLLAR!!!!!
i have some lace somewhere in my stash and i will make!
@@cherrylee1103 I want to make one too! I just hope it looks this nice 😄😅
I love this format! That vest you loved looked weird to me just hanging from your hands, but when you put it on I totally got the vision! So cute
Heehee thank you bb!
I also agree. I liked how you paired your items with several things, giving several outfit options.
That definitely deserved a “wow“, i certainly said it!
ANYWAY every time you purchase from thred up I swear you have the best luck 👌🏻 everything is always so cute :(
I started doing the chefs kiss lately and I've been wondering where it's from - it's you! I teach 5th grade and my students have started doing it, too 😅
For fun thrifting finds, I got this enormous men’s bowling shirt that feels like a hug, and when I’m wearing it open the shadow looks like wings. It’s so big my uncle thought it was a kimono.
"But because of thredUP, I can be BOUGIE."
a mood
😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
My life. I want to dress like a member of the royal family, but I’m a teacher. Second hand is life.
Your picture just lifted my mood. Don't know. It's cute.
I love that you mentioned Dana Scully! I always thought you’d do a perfect version of vintage Dana Scully! Hope to see that in your future video!❤️
Love the looks, and your comments. As someone who possesses almost no brown clothing in their wardrobe, thanks to you I now find myself actually considering the racks of brown in the shops #lifestylechange lol.
I'm also in that Facebook group! It always cheers me up on a busy day to see all the weird stuff
"What else do I have that's not brown?" 😂😂😂
A true dilemma 😂😂
I can't get over how aesthetically pleasing your closet is. I'm living on the top of a bunk bed, above my mother and would die to have a closet that wonderful... and also to not have to bunk with my mother.
You’ve lifted my spirits about vintage shopping for my fashion(ha). an old fat woman that is getting a knee replacement this year. But I like your choices
I love these videos!! Well I love all your videos.
If you bought a few skirts or any bottoms with these purchases, you can totally create multiple outfits without pulling from your closet. Kinda like a capsule wardrobe.
Also, if you wanted smaller ties, shop the kids section! You can be pretty lucky there!
"I don't like to go to crowded thrift stores that make me anxious."
*Introvert* I know EXACTLY how you feel ;|
I want to make a “last time I was this early” joke but i can’t think of anything clever lol
😂😂🙏🙏🙏
My go-to is: Last time I was this early I had a good joke. It's bound to get a chuckle.
Suggestion: "The last time I was this early, everyone had Rachel's wardrobe."
Your closet is amazing! I loved the "Edwardian Explorer" vibes.
That's a whole bedroom.
"I hope you guys are having a good 2020 so far..." That's literally NEVER a phrase you hear! Then I checked the date - second week of January - and it all made sense! :D Oh boy, we had no idea what was coming.
Lovely clothes, btw. :)
yup lol
I'm loving the lace on yr black top. It looks very pretty. Remember, 40s & 50s women often put sweat shields in the sleeve, esp for silk. :-)
And... Thank you for telling me about Three Up! I think I might fall in love! Fun clothes on the cheap!
I went to a vintage clothing shop (don't know why it is called a vintage shop because it was more like a slightly more up there in price Clothing Thrift store) and I found my PERFECT leather trench coat! I am 5'3 and have a medium frame so typically every leather trench coat I find drags the ground or is just too large to be comfortable. WELL I found a trench coat that perfectly hits the middle of my calves and is a size Medium! It was like $40 which is up there for me but I HAD to get it! I have now realized my dream of looking like Spike from Buffy the vampire slayer because the coat is nearly identical to his! I love thrifting!
I found an awesome black sweater with a fur collar on ThredUp that looks totally vintage and fits right into aesthetic! Love the video, it's fun to see how other people figure out their outfits!
Yesssss nice!
That Owen Wilson 'wow' caught me off guard with the brown cardigan. I ended up spitting out my tea from snorting.
The Owen Wilson "wow" was utterly brilliant editing. 😂😂😂
I live in what's called the oldest town in Texas, but I haven't had a chance to swing by any of the thrift shops yet! The good thing about historical towns is historical clothing and very cool thrift items, the bad thing is that they know what they're worth and it's v expensive
I am amazed, all the outfits looked * chef’s kiss *
I liked darker walls more. They gave that certain gentleman's salon, bourbon and cigars, old-fashioned but good, warm atmosphere...
Loved seeing the outfit creation portion! Do you ever wear your sweaters or jackets over dresses? Or are you more of a separates kinda gal?
Also, your hair in the try-on portion was so cute!
LOVE this thrift haul format!
Rachel, just over here bringing thoroughly cozy content to slip tea to and sort through vintage clothing.
You could totally do a Jack Dawson cosplay with those suspenders, shirt and pants!
I'm reading little women and now I want every outfit to look like Jo.
Jeez, I think this is the first time I've probably experienced closet envy
...😯
Not because of the clothing but the rather open and generous size of your closet...
Damn girl!
I love how your feet automatically go into a model/ballet pose as you’re perusing your clothes 😊 it’s very elegant
You're so close to 300k! So exciting!
So nuts!!!!!
@@rachelmaksy Definitely, but also very deserved
This is so helpful! I am just newly starting to switch to a more vintage looking wardrobe. This helps me figure out what in my current wardrobe will work and what to look for.
Eee! I am part of that group too. Best FB group of weirdlings!
Yay!! ❤️
you could try to style that knock off vest with the plaid skirt and also any navy bottom like a skirt or maybe pants you have, cause then it's like a pretty peak of the undershirt/garment, also I think a grey plaid skirt might look nice, and then a wide brim hat with a visible tie cause it'll give you that extra visual you're looking for around the neckline
“The museum needs me, I gotta go” totally cracked up at that 😂
It’s fun to think about how one day people will call our clothes vintage or old
I, too, find myself singing “my favorite muuurderrrr” all the time 😂
Your style is very 1940's and I love it and love your wonderful creativity and sense of style!!
*goes to buy the thredup cardigans I've been eyeing*
Ohh how much I missed these kind of try-on hauls videos !! Very inspiring
A very welcome start of my free time after this stressful overflowing week of university-work ❤🌻 Tea and couch and wonderful video time 🥰 Thank you so much!
🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Belladonna Baggins same here 📚 free time + Rachels new video = 💆🏻♀️ greetings to both of you from Switzerland :) ❤️
Omg, so relatable! I'm in my final months of university and my brain is feeling like an overcharged robot, but watching Rachel make the absolute cutest combos gets me back down.😌 I'm dying to go to thrift stores and vintage stores when everything is open again.
I think that the cream vest would also look cute tucked in a skirt. Also, I think that the blue and white vest looked better unbuttoned. I do wonder what it would look like the it would look like (while buttoned) worn over top of a sleeved shirt that is the same shad of white as the frilly bit. The last outfit shown is my favorite! It's so cute.
Have my own package of secondhand items coming in and I was just as excited to see your things! Would love to see a wardrobe tour, even if it's more of a highlights/staples/faves, it's like getting to go through a fashionable friend's closet!
The collar on the shirt at the beginning is literally Cossette from Les Miserables!
The "wow" when you put the brown sweater on had me crackin' up!
I recently found a pretty antique brooch at an oppshop. I also found the most brilliant sunhat in the universe...It was s extravagant with ribbons and flowers...and fake onions... It was so odd I had to buy it. Also, people were oddly congratulating me very enthusiastically about my finds.
I can't take my eyes off of your little pendant, so smol, so cute, so delicate! Now I desperately need something like this 😄
The blue skirt and vest had a Anne of Green Gables vibe
Can I just say, I LOVE editing Rachel, and she inspires Editing Elizabeth to make appearances in my videos 😂😂
I like this format of thrift haul!!
Alternative title: a young Molly Weasley tries on clothes for 22 minutes and 10 seconds
I love them all and they really look good on you . I love the blouse you are wearing too
I love your thrift hauls, so I'm happy to see them in whatever form you choose to show us! :)
🤗❤️❤️❤️
Would absolutely love if you could show us your skirts in more detail. Basically I'm obsessed with the ones that have the buttons down the front and want to sew them lol. And need to see the details to copy! :)
That skirt, blazer, tie combo was so Jane from Tarzan and I loved it.
rachel, your bangs look absolutely beautiful here and i cant get over it
Omg the “wooow” audio caught me off guard and I lost it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Natalie Palmer oh me tooooo 😂😂😂
