FINALLY a collab with none other than Meme Mom herself, Karolina Zebrowska.
GO WATCHHH her video: • Coca-Cola Dress But It...
We decided that it would be fun to take super well-known brands and make them into historical dresses. This project basically killed me BUT I learned a lot and also swore a lot!

I'm the random long thread that was haunting you
I’m the flickering candle on the left of your background because I’m about to pass out
I'm "Did I do the sleeves today?" I think so,, What day is it? Where am I??"
YOU GO GIRRRRL WITH DEM HISTORICAL SEWING ENERGY-VAMPIRE PROJECTS 💪🏻 AND DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU YOUR COFFEE LID HAT IS NOT CUTE 😤 so proud!
Hahahhaa THANK YOU BB
That hat's actually pretty damn impressive. TBH. The whole dress is. 😍😍
I love the historical food/drink outfit. Can fans join in on the fun? I’d love to make a Cherry blossom tea outfit.
*radiates the positive yelling energy*
Who read this in her voice?
I’m comfortable preemptively declaring this the crossover of the decade.
The 21st century.
😂😂🙈❤️❤️❤️
Okay but Rachel is also collabing with Bernadette Banner and Morgan Donner, as seen in Bernadette’s Instagram story, sooooooo.......
@@iciajay6891 that comment made me think about a song
"Sewing is like running. I generally enjoy the results, but during the process I just want to die."
Rachel Maksy
Nailed it.
This is how I feel about writing.
@@BelleFlower15 Haha! I know how you feel. I actually love the writing process, but I definitely have days when I hate it and want to burn everything I've ever written.
That's how it sometimes feels with competitive swimming😂
Heh 666th like
This is the best quote ever. I'm stealing it.
Finally, a youtube sewer who is cutting on the floor with a pet on top of everything. I feel represented.
I'm guessing you have never viewed Micarah. Highly suggest her
How about Bernadette Banner's guinea pig?
@@bookmouse2719 was thinking just the same 💜
@@bookmouse2719 My pig always gets excited when she sees him! I think she has a crush lol
Elin Abrahamsson does that as well... Her cat is super adorable.
That extra fabric is just a sewing achievement. The first piece of your random leftover stash of fabric that's too expensive to throw away but you have no idea what to use it for.
CABBAGE
Yes 🙏😂😂😂😂😂
Pillows!!!
gift wrapping! or YOU COULD MAKE A PLEATED SCARF
Oh yes, now Rachel has officially entered the threadful and swear words haunting halls of sewing :) She made her first piece of stash :D
Fabric: *should be washed and ironed*
Rachel: I can hear you... But I won't...
Rachel hears ya. Rachel don’t care.
some look for trouble while others don't (rachel definitely IS looking for trouble)
If it's ironable - just iron with steam of iron spray:) works finde most of the time.
It's polyester satin, it's actually fine :p washing applies to natural fibers that can shrink (poly won't shrink at all) and it likely doesn't need ironing either since poly doesn't crease much and it's straight off the bolt :)
Literally me, no mockup, no ironing, and only washing if it’s everyday wear and not a costume
I thought the “le thunderous footsteps” were going to reveal Karolina running around your kitchen on all fours
I loved the cat but now that you mentioned this I’m completely devastated that it wasn’t karolina
PLOT TWIST
Legit SAME
Me too lol
Same
I cannot believe we have been blessed with Rachel and our meme mom collaborating 🙏
Heehehhee
Yesssssssssss!
It's a dream come true (*w*) lol
Agreed

You only have 11 unfinished sewing projects???😂

When someone says they haven't washed the fabric before sewing:
*visible terror*

*terror intensifies*
She said no mockup and my heartbeat increased three hundred
Honestly I don't really see a difference in the finished product soooo 😂
@@rachelmaksy it's just the instinctive terror of cutting expensive fabric without a practice run lol
Camilla Aston she probably sewed over the pins too, GASP!!!! >
@@rachelmaksy I'm jealous. I always end up making a minimum of three mock ups per project because I have a long torso and big boobs so I have to add length and do a full bust adjustment on every top and dress. 😭
Her dog is so adorable. I love how the dog fully believes it is at the center of her life and I think the dog is right.
Hahaha he is completely right 😂❤️❤️
Frodo is the name
He is absolutely adorable!
His face is so expressive!
But I love coffee cup hat so much!!!
6:54 - Rachel wearing comfy pants under her skirt is a genuine mood
And apparently, a very feminist and victorian fashion trend
@Zayalla Fantasy I wish I had those. Haha I just wear those footless fleece lined tights and sometimes leggings if it's really cold
*Watches because Rachel*
*Also watches because Karolina*
**Also also watches because I have that pattern and am terrified to use it.**
Hahaha you CAN DO ITTTT
Did you get the book? It's very detailed on construction techniques and it's full color. I definitely recommend it.
@@ashalindrose6055 Which book? The American Duchess one? I have not, but it's on my list ^_^
@@haleyspence yup. I got it for Christmas and I feel a lot more confident about approaching the patterns now. 🙂
Also the book is only like $20?? from what I remember, so super worth it for help on the pattern!!
When you make a period dress of this magnitude, let there be no apologies for sourcing new material. The MASSIVE effort and scale of all serious sewing projects but particularly stuff of this scope deserves absolutely dependable material in a style and colour you know you won't fall out of love with. One of the best things about sewing is how you can rescue and reuse things, but sewing is so time-consuming and all-consuming in general that this shouldn't be treated as a moral must for hobby sewists. I admire your ambition and efforts here.
16:24 hit way too hard I’m a dishwasher at a brewery and I just got off an almost nine hour shift so “tavern wench who spent hours doing dishes” is literally me
Rachel: this is the longest i have spent on a project
Cathy hay: oh, my sweet summer child....
😂😂 To be fair I said a SEWING project. I've spent many a months on cosplays before hahaha
Rachel Maksy LoL! She’s been working on the peacock dress for over 10 years, she has pretty much everyone beat!
@@agypsycircle I thought it was two decades.♥️
dc in rb Entirely possible!
Not to be critical- but putting your sewing machine on a table and sewing at that height might be more comfortable for long sewing periods.
My husband once observed that all my hobbies that bring me joy also bring me pain, misery, and suffering. Sewing is one of those things. :D
this is so accurate haha
“I think it turned out ok....it’s my second historical costume made.....” pffff...pffff....pppfffffff. I can sew a pillow case.... Rachel you are amazing!,,,,
Me: pinning all of the pattern pieces down on my fabric and looking them from above
*”Oh yeah its all coming together”*
That was fun! I'm guessing introvert rachel wanted to die while dancing outside of Starbucks? The things you do for us. MAD RESPECT!
Oh you BET I was internally screaming the whole time 😂😂😂
I love Frodo's moral support paw when you started pulling out the pattern!
😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
Hey you’ll probably NEVER see this, but I wanted to thank you. I got out of a bad relationship that really killed my joy for a lot of things, but you got me back into sewing and crafting when I found your content and today I finished my first ever garment. So seriously, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me bring back some light in the things I love.
Hope you are better now :) i know that feeling :)
There are a lot of fabric stores that are basically "leftover bolt" stores where you can buy bolts of yarn that came from traditional fabric stores that didn't sell within the stores allowed time frame for the bolts to be on the floor and it's at a marked down cost and you can get a lot of fabric!!!
Ragfinders is the only one I've heard of. I thought it wasn't a big thing but I'm glad I was proven wrong. Thank you!
Where are these magical stores?! Love watching your sewing adventures, ignore the nay sayers; unless trained by sewing masters or formally in a school, not a one of us hasn’t made the mistakes you have made. Your spirit of fun and willingness to try is the secret to life! The Starbucks dress concept is fantastic! I’m inspired to sew a Grannie version of some other product brought to life in fabric. Now which product is the question?

Hot tip for preservation of paterns: NEVER CUT UP YOUR ORIGINAL PATERN, but trace your patern on patern paper. Keep the original in tact. This way you can cut out different sises if you gain or lose weight or would like to make something for somebody else. It also helps with storage and losing pieces, because you'll always be able to trace it again if necessary. This way you can also endlessly experiment with alterations without having to worry about ruining your patern. It takes up a little more time, but the pro's outweigh the cons.
Last week I started doing this. Highlighted the size I needed and used a transparent plastic sheet (idea is not mine but my friend who is a sailmaker) to copy the pieces. Took me a few hours but I have a durable pattern now.
My mom taught me to cut out the biggest size of the pattern and cut notches into the corners and turns so that its foldable and pinnable at different sizes... I haven't sewn since like 2018 so I can't say if it actually works or not lol
Me: why does her dress form have a stuffed bra??
Barely 5 seconds later
Me: THATS SO SMART
Alternating between pijamas and lovely demure vintage wear is exactly what I want from life, Rachel is truly a role model

I love that you released this on my first day of working for Starbucks 😂
How's it going?
How'd it go? I was with Starbucks for a year. The free coffee got me through school lol.
"I'm not going to line the sleeves..." Pretty sure my eye twitched at that.
Great outfit, and I loved the coffee lid hat.
Your patience is remarkable. Also, how you feel about sewing is exactly how I feel about writing. I have a degree in journalism you'd think I'd love it, but no, the process is draining...but the satisfaction of creating something you're proud of even despite the challenges is so worth it. Most of the time. 😂
Jenny Cvek i love your profile picture!😊
Sofia Bravo thank you! I took it myself with a tripod in my dorm room junior year! 😂
If she truly had any patience, she would have washed & ironed the fabric & ironed the pattern & made a toile first & she wouldn't have left vast chunks of the instructions incomplete; she would have finished the dress as the pattern instructed so the dress wouldn't fall open when she sat down.
Joanne Carroll the patience, creativity, and direction required to even START this project is noteworthy. It’s so easy to get exasperated with sewing projects and just throw in the (sometimes literal) towel-especially if it’s just you working on it. The fact that she stuck with it even when frustrated and completed it as well as she did shows she’s dedicated. I think every creative person loses their patience in projects from time to time-sometimes we have to cut unimportant corners to keep our sanity.
i LOST it at "my neighbours definitely think i'm a ghost"
IT’S SO GOOD!!! Also, “just been casually making stays whatevs” - that’s awesome??
I feel like I only just now understand the layout of Rachel's living room. LoL I've been watching for YEARS and I literally thought the couch was in some other "rec room" or something. I didn't think it was on the other wall of where she usually films! Hahaha!

There's a million ways you could alter this dress after this project, so it's totally worth the time and frustration. I love your content so so so much!
The coffee cup lid hat is adorable! It gave it the touch of Starbucks! That was a very technically difficult dress and you were right on target, be proud of yourself!

I am literally SO obsessed with Rachel's cream sweater. It's so cute!
The stubborn 90's dad is me anytime I pick up a pattern.
It´s great seeing you reaching for the stars with such a complicated project! I´ve been sewing for years and never attempted a robe a la francais, it scares me to death. Very well done!
Hunnycaramel Dont be intimidated! You CAN do it, one seam at a time. I’ve been sewing for 30 years, and still get intimidated by sleeves, but with a lot of care (swearing, seam ripping, and frustration) I CAN do them. But a robe a la francais is fairly simple when compared to an 1860’s style Civil War day dress. Cartridge pleating is an invention of demons, yet I managed to make three of them for my cousin, who is a Civil War reenactor. Nothing is too hard if you take baby steps!
Jaynie Nowell-Snoke Thank you, how kind of you to encourage me! I’ll try to keep that in mind!
@@belagracie Sleeves aren't a thing for me, but zippers? Gaaaah! Couple of tips that I learned from tailoring (yeah, they're different). First, DON'T sew the side seam to the bodice before you pin the sleeves, just the shoulder seam is enough. Match the dots on a flat surface! Made a huge difference when I discovered that! The gathering/easing is much more precise if you are able to do it without the added stress of trying to deal with shapes. Once the sleeve is inset, use trimming the inner curve rather than clipping both allowances. It lays flatter and you don't get that distressing pucker. A second seam 1/16th from the first takes care of fraying, and doesn't add bulk. After the setting of the curve of the sleeve, that "matching" of the two seams of the bodice and sleeves disappears...you just sew one seam from cuff to waist. No more swearing about matching those two seams together.
Do you know those 90s dolls where it’s a cupcake and you turn it inside out? The cupcake top becomes a hat! I’d love to see you do one of those as an outfit!
This turned out gorgeous! This collab is everything I live for
