Interesting old gun. Popular in its day. Excellent job think it would be a fun shooter. Bet even today it would be a good small game rifle.

They are nice looking little rifles. I have three of them in 25 .one i will reline to 22 longrifle one will be relined to 25 hornet. Using black powder. I have a bullet mold 60 gr. The bore on both rifles are pitted bad. I have a 25 hornet reamer.

I just recently inherited one with two 25 Stevens barrels. I want to get one relined in 22 long rifle. Could you tell me how to do that?

@@youthsportsman8048need a .22 liner drill and a liner use a cut off piece of .22 mag case on the drill pilot to act as a bushing. drill out the bore slowly with lots of cutting oil. And then you can insert the liner with something like bedding epoxy or some sort of permanent loctite cut off the ends file flush. Then chamber ream and crown the muzzle. You may or may not need to move the firing pin and you will need a .22 extractor.

Steve where did you get the centerfire block? I have a Stevens 44 in 25 Stevens RF and a Stevens 44 in 25-20SS. Can I swap the 25-20SS block and use it in the .25 Stevens RF with Rocky Mountain 25-20 Stevens centerline brass? Is it that simple?

I had an extra block converted to centerfire. You may be able to swap the Stevens blocks, but check the headspace.

Steve, can you make a video on swapping a Stevens 44 RF block with a centerfire block? Turns out that RMC is making 25 Stevens CF brass.

I dont have a Stevens 44 rimfire block to swap, only the centerfire block in my .25-25.. In the #4 rolling block, it is just one screw to change blocks. Very easy. RMC makes almost anything. I have some of their .25-.25 Stevens brass. It works well.

I make the cases from .22 Hornet brass. For the rimfire version, they are machined to take a .22 cal starter blank as the primer.

Here is an extensive discussion on the 25 Stevens. I post under the screen name ndnchf starting in 2021. forum.assra.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1519327136/0

I have an 1885 low wall Winchester mfg 1888 that was rimfire and has been changed. It was sold to me as a 25.21 stevens but the chamber is half that length. I don't have all the equipment to work hornet brass so I cut down 25.21 brass to fit. I use 777 about 8 or 9 grains. Great gun and not a wall hanger.

It appears on the video that the rim fire rounds have less recoil. Have you compared them on a chrono? Also I have a bunch of .25 cal nail gun blanks that (I have to check dimensions) might be the same diameter as a 25 Stevens Rim Fire. They are about as powerful as 22lr loads. If they are the same diameter they could potentially be use by loading bullet first then nail gun charge.

I have chrono'd these loads from my #4 rifle. I may have mispoke in the video. The RF load was 19.gr W231, that runs 1092fps avg. The CF load was 7.0gr if Reloader 7. It runs 1205fps. Look on my antique firearms youtube playlist for my first 25 Stevens video, about a year ago. I tried the 25 cal nail gun blank and others. The .22 Hornet brass conversion was the best option.
