These are simple little rifles but they are beautiful too. Stevens were masters of design in the early 1900s

I have my Dad's Model 68 Winchester (22 rimfire). It was the first firearm I ever shot and my first "gun". I'm 66 years old now. It looks much worse than the Stevens but somewhat the same as well. I want to mirror what you do to the Stevens so my kids/grandkids have my Dad's 22 looking the way it did for him on that Christmas Day back in the early 30's. Normally I wouldn't "restore" a rifle, but this one has been treated much like the Stevens and I redid the stock when I was in the 7th grade in Wood Shop and so it suffered from that (over sanding and clear lacquer spray). I look forward to this series. By the way, I got permission from the school (Los Angeles District) and carried the rifle to school just like my brown bag lunch, and not a person gave me a second look. How things have changed...
If at all possible, tell us how we can duplicate what you do in the shop here at home in our garages.

Thanks Ben! I used to bring my shotgun to college for fall hunts. Change indeed. Most of the techniques I will be using can be duplicated with commonly available materials and sources. If I miss some info that you think will be important...feel free to ask and I will try and help.

Pretty sure for the most part the leave it alone thing, is if you can't do it right don't do it at all & it's been blown way out proportion, lots of good restoration candidates were messed up, now for the last 40 years people say keep the rust, oops I meant patina the whole reason to not mess with an old gun is so it CAN be restored, with little or no parts just proper refinishing

There is a lot of good honest patina that should be preserved in old firearms...and they should not be restored because It is the story of a well maintained firearm having survived over time. This Stevens however is well beyond anything original. This will be a fun restoration. It will be a good one for the channel
