I saw Hikaru use this exact same setup in another game on his stream recently. Best attack against Hikaru that I've seen on this channel. Hikaru laid traps along the way and he's so good at placing long-range snipers on the board. That and Paul had to spend a lot of time on tactics while Hikaru sees the tactics in milliseconds.
Morphy Bob's fashion game is almost as strong as his chess. These old school chess masters know how to rock the anti-fashion genuine cool look. Relaxed, different and assured.
Bruh this is not even surprising. These grandmasters can beat like 3 dozen players blindfolded at the same time. 5-1 time advantage is nothing for hikaru.
I love everything about this video. It gives hope to the mortal man, only for it to be snatched away. But seeing Bobs stunned reaction at the end - its like he cant believe it! Hikaru - "You were winning that game.." Bob - "Can we play again?" "Yeah yeah...can we play again?" lol.
I play minute speed chess and I saw that pawn take. Yeah, that would cause a lot of pressure. It would have been a monster pawn. You can see he was prepared, he knew that opening and this helped him with the clock. If the other guy doesn't know the opening and it's a strong one then this could cost him time on the clock to work out positions verses the guy who already knows the positions. And this player used this in his play. Also to try to drain the clock he threw that combination wrench there in the center of the board. Instead of hikaru trying to analyze it and burn time, he just castled.
I guess I'm a sucker for a lone pawn but I kept wondering why Bob didn't just take the pawn on h6. No way I would have ever gotten to that point if I was playing. Awesome game. I guess Hikaru won't be on this channel anymore now that he moved to Florida again. It's a treat to watch him play live games.
He is definitely very good but people keep forgetting this is a 5 to 1 odds meaning that he would most likely never get a position like that vs a GM like Hikaru if they both have the same clock time.
5-1 time doesnt mean 5-1 odds. If you could wipe hikaru's brain every move it would be fair but he still thinks while youre thinking and much faster. A time advantage is only an advantage if you can surprise your opponent.
@@johnsterne178 Thinking on your opponents turn is not an advantage he is just a better player so obviously he makes calculations while the other player does. But during his turn he has to either make a fast calculation or response to a move he already predicted during the opponents turn. So yes 5-1 time is a 5-1 odds compared to a 5-5 time control that would completely change how this game went. You can't seriously think that having 1 minute is not a disadvantage. You go ahead a play against people lower rated than you with just 1 minute while they have 5 and see how easily you make blunders way faster than them even if you are rated higher. Not to forget that after 2000 rating you can't afford to blunder unless you are a GM like Hikaru
@@johnsterne178 "If you can surprise your opponent" Yeah, thats what happened in this video. You have 5 times more time to come up with a surprise while your opp has 5 times less time to react to your move.
Hikaru investing back into the game of chess, great to see. And remember he had only one minute, although I notice that the great players are still analysing when their opponent is thinking.
of course. You're supposed to make full use of your opponent's time, always. Imagine how confident you'd be if you would end up predicting which move your opponent plays, and already have 3 possible responses and some educated calcuguesses ready when it's your turn.

😁 Hey, it's the infamous "I will play in the style of Paul Morphy" guy! Never livin' that one down....but neither is Morphy these days, so it works out! GG.
I don't think he's master level because in one of the previous videos, he confused the Vienna, one of the main QGD lines with the Botvinik semi-slav. He also had no clue about one of the winning endgames Hikaru had against NM Carl. He's probably around 2000 level, a master would have 100% converted that Hikaru just played a bit complacently in the opening
@@ym276 converting against a super GM is still really difficult, it can be easy to underestimate just how much stronger a player like Hikaru is compared to an average master level player.

Bob got to this amazing position against Hikaru, a feat that Carl hasn’t done, but Carl could have finished the game lol maybe 2 players vs Hikaru would be possible
