That wouldnt have been much of a contest. Hikaru can win against weaker GMs with those odds and this man's just an IM. They needed the parity to make it intersting
Hikaru the man. What an amazing person to always go play with the fans. A true champion, you are an amazing person Hikaru. Robert a great player as well. Great job.
@@route-wo8ri You do realize that he has ONE minute to start with?? So FOUR minutes LESS than his opponent. What you are seeing (54.4 for example) are seconds below 1 minute. That attitude didn't age well, did it?
Does anyone know who the little Spanish kid is who stands by the chess board in these videos? Also are folks paying to play Hikaru and if so how much do they pay per game?
It’d be nice if you guys had small baskets on the table they could throw their pieces in so they’re not worrying about knocking them around w/their elbows :)
@@Splitlickity What I mean is when you play a timed match and your opponent sets up his pieces in an attacking or defensive position and then basically just sits there making no real movements to advance. Basically they are waiting for you to start panicking due to time running out and then have to start sacrificing pieces. They basically want to win by making you run out of time not by checkmate
🤔 Hikaru employs a very clever strategy by making very fast moves keeping the clock ticking on his opponents timer, not his! Hikaru uses the time his opponents take to decide what moves they make and then when it's his turn he moves in 1-2 seconds! It keeps his opponent off balance and they make errors so they take extra time to figure out what Hikaru is doing! So in essence🤫, Hikaru limiting his time to 1 minute is actually 6 minutes, his 1 and the opponents 5! 🦂🥂
That's true for everyone, though. Every chess player is supposed to think about the position both during their time and during the time of the opponent. Nakamura simply does it better than most people.
there's literally dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of video of Hikaru playing equal time games against weak opponents on his channel and in speed runs. It's nice to have something different here. Just be grateful you have so much access to so much content of one of the best players of our time

Yeah, I prefer if there was no time advantage. Just let us watch Hikaru at his best. So that if someone beats him at the same time then they have something to be proud of.
YES! Because 1. He may be the first one who got so much as a draw. 2. I think Hikaru is rated the best in the world in minute speed chess. 3. When you take the queen first then you are hoping to trade pieces and to go for the draw at the beginning. I think next game that hikaru will start his clock at 3 minutes to Roberts 5 minutes.
Robert is a beast at chess. He consistently demonstrates an intuitive strategic vision of each game he plays. He currently doesn’t have the grandmaster title but it is only a matter of time. I greatly enjoy watching him play.
Robert looks like he just woke up out of bed, probably prepping the night before for this moment.
Always good to see Hikaru stopping by coffee chess for some games
He needs to play with the same time as everyone else he plays with ONE MINUTE MORE see the clock
its time odds, very common in chess when there is a large skill gap. people also play piece odds when its an even bigger skill gap
He's 16??
He must've had a tough paper round!
It was a gentleman move of him to accept the draw and not flag Hikaru, who started with only 1 min.
flag Hikaru lol. Hikaru had 15 seconds to the IMs 49 seconds. Hikaru is much faster and could have easily flagged him but decided to be a gentleman.
Hikaru should have at least 2 min against a player of that level
