hi from the uk love your videos I'm a 360 operator of many years I've driven dozers only a couple of times I love them,my question is when operating a 14 ton 360 excavator on a step slope what would you say is the maximum you could operate safely I know tracks would be face up and down hill never cross track on a slope ,I know not to slew fast down hill with a full bucket, would it be safe to work on a 45deg bater I've no problem tracking up and down and working up hill it's just booming out always been taut not too sorry if it doesn't make sence
Thanks for watching and I really appreciate the support! To answer your question, it really depends on conditions. I know a lot of machines will have something in the manual about the max slope to operate on so the oil pickup doesn't run dry so that will factor into your question. Assuming the machine is safe to run on that pitch, the next factor is ground conditions. If you have good dirt that will hold you in place and you aren't doing a ton of spinning around then I would say you would be fine. I would keep my boom oriented downhill so if anything started to slide you could catch yourself and not get caught with your pants down.

I would argue that some of these concepts are still difficult to grasp even with sandbox experience. Running a dozer and cutting slopes is a pretty complex skill that you don't quite get until you sit in the seat. Thanks for the comment Hank!

@@DieselandIroni did slopes my first day in a dozer and finish grade for house pads boss had asked me why i didn’t tell him i had experience which i had never seen the cab inside before yet along operate one. Told me i looked like i been doing it for years i will say not everyone has that particular skill to get the hang of things fast

When I was a child I played in the yard with tonka excavator and dozers ;when other kids were crashing into each other I was being very meticulous and digging holes and moving dirt and you learn how to use the tractors the difference was you were power but all the basic concepts and techniques were learned right there in our yard !!!!!
Your terminology is confusing and inconsistent. Level is water puddle level. Matching slope is not level. Dump trucks don’t toss dirt.
Lol, & some of us began our career on equipment with no tilt, no angle blade..We didn't know any different tho..😂

To cut a slope. Know where your shoulder starts. Know where your toe should be. Daylight the top to the toe. Clean tight grd

No way I could explain this operation. I just go do it and can’t say how I do it. Just like spinning off a ditch or jumping a pipe with a excavator. So much going on with sight and feeling makes it hard to explain.
That is one of the more difficult aspects of making these videos. I have to sit and think about what I'm doing to talk people through it.

It is. Sometimes you just have to beat the dirt into submission.
Easy when you have a 6 way blade, should try it it with a cable operated straight blade like I had when I started operating, thats when skill and lots and lots of seat time come into it.
The technology has changed a lot in your lifetime. Did you ever think you'd see a machine slot doze completely on its own? I recently ran one of the new Komatsu dozers and the machine literally handled itself in a slot dozing application. I only had to make sure I was steering straight. It blew my mind...
@@DieselandIron The dozer I am on at the moment is a D 7R2 LGP with GPS and auto on the blade, love it for doing bulk earthworks on housing development projects. Never thought I would ever be using satellites and a screen and computers to move dirt but thats how it is these days. Yeah have used the Komastus we have 6 at work and about 14 X D 6 R & Ts to name a few.
Would you think about doing more time lapses?
I can start incorporating more of that into my vlogs. Thanks for the suggestion!

Finesse and feel. Used to enjoy watching the old time operators climb into a really old machine and produce the same work as they could with the new tech machine.
I have a hard time seeing where exactly the blade is and cutting down too deep.
This just takes seat time and experience. Dozer is probably the hardest piece of equipment to run on the job. Don't get frustrated, just keep at it and your skills will come with time.

what about shifting forward and backward do you decell and brake or decell and shift or just shift see so many doing it in different ways
On hydrostat machines like this you don't need to brake or decelerate although I do try to slow the machine just a bit to make it easier on the drive train. On older dozers (or the large dozers) that have a real transmission you will need to slow the machine before changing gears. That's typically handled with the decel pedal since you are generally under load. Braking isn't really necessary unless you are on a slope.
It's basically helicopter levels of control interaction isn't it...
