Your a good mechanic and really relate to the diy guys like myself... just got done doing water pump, turbo adapters and trans service on my 18 f150... doing your own work can save thousands and you really understand your vehicle much better from a mechanical standpoint. There is an easy and hard way for everything though! Great content.
Just got my '17 back from the the local Ford dealer. Replaced the real seal under warranty. Hope the tech has the experience you have! Thanks for posting.
I just did this job and forgot to mark the pinion nut on my way out. Thankfully I was able to.use the rust marks on the thread to line me up correctly to what I had it.
Thank you again for another informative vid. I havent had any leaks yet on my truck but ill know how to tackle it. Only thing that concerned me was reinstalling the nut and torquing it to get the right backlash i guess
That can be very tricky for sure because there's a special tool that holds the actual yoke and you rethread some of the driveshaft bolts back into to hold it but the way I did it is just as sufficient
That was good. Wondered what the practical way was to replace pinion seal with crush sleeve in there. I bought a solid pinion spacer and used it on the marauder diff. Probably overkill but I don’t trust crush sleeve at 600hp
What did they do to make both front and rear pinion seals leak? My 2013 with close to 200,000 miles doesn't leak even after heavy offroading all its life. My oil pan gasket was leaking though replaced it about 140,000.
I notice my differential cover was leaking. When I got under there to remove it I noticed the front of the axle had oil on it like this one. I’m going ahead and changing the fluid. Is only the pinion seal the only thing that need to be replaced? Reuse the other parts?
My truck is in the shop now for what I believe is the front pinion seal leaking. Can it leak bad enough to leave marks on your driveway? Seemed to be the only thing that was leaking.
I might have one somewhere in the library but it's the same principle I do have a three-part video rebuilding a front differential you just have to go in the library and find it
Great video! I need to replace the flange due to scoring along with the seal. Do you install the flange and driveshaft in any random position since you won’t have any marks to go off of ?
Just had the ford dealership replace a leaking pinion seal on my 22’ under warranty. I now have a faint whine/whirring noise under deceleration. Did they botch torquing the nut back down? I’m going to be taking it back to the dealer. I’ve driven about 200 miles since the replacement. Has the damage been done already or is it fixable?
@@FordBossMe I kinda figured because when I looked up the seal it says it’s the same seal for both rears. My 9.75 Is leaking so I gotta swap the seal out.
I don't know if you email me I'll check when I get to work at 6:05 right now and I'm Central Time send me a VIN number and I'll price the oil Slinger for you if I didn't show it in the video chances are I ain't going to be able to get it right away cuz I don't show every single thing Poissorichard.rp@gmail.com
Great and thorough video! Subscribed! I just had a shop replace my rear pinion seal (2018 F150) and now I have drivetrain vibration on acceleration. I went back right away and the mechanic did something and made it somewhat better but it's not completely gone. He explained that it may be something in the differential which I'm not buying. I want to go back when the owner is there. Any thoughts? Would not marking up the U joint with the flange and also the flange to pinion shaft be enough to cause this vibration? Thank you
@@FordBossMe Thank you for replying. I just had a simply seal that was leaking and I'm suspecting that the disassembly and reassembly was half-assed by the guy who isn't even a licensed Tech. i fould out he brought it back i when i was there and told the shop owner that two of the U-joint bolts were loose which was causing the initial vibration. The owner thought there was a master spline so the yoke can only go on one way and they are saying they torqued the pinion shaft nut on but a crush sleeve wasn't even replaced... I should have just done the job myself....
So I had this done less then a year ago under warranty but now I'm out of warranty and it's leaking again. Possibly they didn't install it right or is something else wrong? I also just had it serviced, could it be overfilled? Thanks Rich!
You could have a plugged vent the vent line that's coming out of the rear end that goes up up underneath the truck could be plugged and it's pushing out past the seals check that first and could it be overfilled? Maybe probably not likely
@@FordBossMe thank you! I'll check that vent again and make sure it's not clogged. And I thought over filled because when I pulled the full plug, a bunch came out and I quickly put it back lol but thank you man!
Thanks for video, wondering if you've seen a nut like this? It appears to be pinched and not sure how to deal with it, didn't seem to want to bend out. It's from my 2018 f150 with 50k miles. ruclips.net/video/hQErJAvPvag/видео.html
It's a normal nut just with side pinch spots to stop it from rotating off freely, when you put a big impact on and spin it off it naturally unpunches itself
Then when your done and everything is set and back together you take a chisel and hammer and knock them back in when your done tightening That whole edge can be knocked in those 2 spots what ever position it ends back up in
@@FordBossMe Btw did this the other week, I up'd my psi on compressor and doubled my impact wrench and it took it off like you'd said. Just needed more 'power'. Thx again.

1 1/8 socket worked perfect on my flange nut.

Yeah this is just the basic easy way to do it and works well

ZZ Top in the background … you can use a front end bearing kit that has spacers.
Thanks!
Does anyone have the part number for the rear pinion nut?
very good explanation, and in the agency how much does it cost to repair the rear pinion seal
is it required to replace the nut or can you reuse the old one?
Supposed to replace but you can reuse the old one
New is better though

Yes
Any idea what the torq limit used to put the yoke back on? Had this done but I think it was over torqued
Do you have the video of the front pinion seal being replaced?

Use caliper depth rod if using same dimensional nut imo

You could also have carrier bearings that were degraded as well
Maybe one of the weights fell off the drive shaft

Do you use any grease on the mating surface of the seal, and do you use sealant on the seal on these new Fords?
I use gear oil not grease

Done a few of these. To tighten I set the parking brake and get out the IR Thunder Gun. About 3 uggs duggas gets it just right, then....

I screwed up and didn’t mark the bolt before I took it off. Any advice please help
Hammer down until it stops and then go a smidge more hope you have success
