BW has the best sprites. Full of expression and unique. Did you know that cofagrigus could hide their hands and shut their face off to look like a complete coffin? I loved that animation.
SAME, I loved how lively the Cofagrigus animations were, it actually showed how the pokémon worked and why it made sense. If you never played BW, you would never know that Cofagrigus could do that unless you watched the anime. Its 3D model is so stiff, desaturated, and the face looks shrunken, I feel very bad for Cofagrigus, I really hope it gets better treatment in the future
You ever see Kangaskhan's attack animation in Pokemon Ranger? Currently replaying, and it uses a Mega form 10 years before megas were a thing, with the baby hopping out and bracing against the Kangaskhan's leg as the Kangaskhan hyper beams
Oh man you make me want to replay all 3 now man I beat all 3 rangers like last year in a row first one I beat like twice. 3rd one ran the smoothest. I loved how fast in the first one you reach max level too. And 100% for them is faster than most pokemon games. Just the 2nd and 3rd had events and couldn’t 100% because there wasn’t even cheats to reactivate them.
I like the part where you show both sides of the spectrum like Arcanine in Gen 9 which retained the adorableness and the fiercesomeness of the original sprites

3D sprites do have their own unique charm to them but theres just some things like the insanely washed out colours and certain models that just kinda ruin it
The models are fine, just look at how some people use them to great effect in fanmade animations... THE MODEL is amazing, the color could be better and the animation is horrible Specially those who are just flying

Not having the flames in the show is slightly understandable because it would cost a fair bit for the animation every time he's on screen chilling. But for the game there is no excuse since they can reuse the animation as often as they like. It's dumb plain and simple.

Typhlosion ignites his flames when he enters battle, so it makes sense for it to be on. On the poke amie/ refresh his flames need to be off since he's no in battle.
It looks more like the movie design. Which is what they were going for during the move to 3D but missed the mark. Larger eyes, smaller head, bulkier shoulders and legs. The more defined brow also makes it more intimidating than the model that was previously reused all the way from Melee to Sun and Moon.

Pixels add enough of a crunch that our brains can auto-fill sharper details. The only reason for the switch was so that you can just make a 3D model with animations and infinitely port it over and over and over.
Archeops is one of the ONLY 3D models that’s better than the sprite. It’s not supposed to be good at flying to seeing it wiggle around in the air and flap really fast to keep balance enhances its character, and makes it look more wild and crazy.
I think the issue is that most of the 3D models are *very* non-animated, and the Pokémon just kinda…idle there As opposed to their animated sprites from gen 5, where they could be a lot more dynamic because the sprites didn’t use attacking or hurt animations (though that doesn’t excuse it, Stadium/Colosseum/XD did 3D models with good idling animations)
i think the main problem is that they dont pose the pokemon anymore. like, they just make the pokemon just stand there (or float/fly/whatever depending on the pkmn). the pokemon arent really in a battle stance or any cool-looking pose.

As far as I remember back then only a vocal minority did that at least by the time black and white 2 released since a lot of people in the Fandom I knew of loved the fact that older characters returned in the pwt. It was pokemon diamond and pearl that they were saying that sucked even when platinum was released.

I think the main difference is that the 2d sprites always depict an action pose, when the 3d is like an "idle" state depicted. And of course we like the action better, so no wonder they are the preferred ome
I just hope they go back to the old world system with linear routes and not open world. At least make a LV scaling, but no, rather you win easily or you get dominated because you or your opponent have a LV dif of 10-20. I just don't have to watch and read guides to have an all time challenge.
With how they handled linear routes in sword and shield? That's not a good idea. And even in the older games linear routes weren't even that linear except black and white 1.

Seeing garchomp flying like a plane was pretty cool in sv. I thought i needed to take magnaton to area 0 to evolve only to realize all i needed was a thunder stone. A little later i was on the crater's rim and get jump scared by a magnazone flying above me into view of the camera (I had the camera zoomed out via clicking right stick). The crater rim was also where I saw the flying garchomp
Gen 5 was my favourite generation just for this reason. The livelyness in all of the Pokémon really made it feel like an actual battle instead of them just standing still. Im not hoping for black and white remakes on switch, but the exact same game on the switch (if the legends kyurem rumours are not true)
I mean, as an Archeops fan, it looking goofy is perfect. I love derpy pokemon, and seeing it flapping around on those inefficient wings is also realistic. You're right about the others though.
2d sprites allowed for dynamic poses that made you to imagine the way the pokemon could move and fight in the coolest way possible. With 3d sprites you have to have the pokemon in a boring pose because that's how they would naturally be staying still. I haven't bought a pokemon game since they switched to 3d and I never will
My favourite Pokémon is Mienshao and he got done absolutely dirty with his 3d model. His sprites always had him in an elegant fighting pose, but in 3D, he just has his arms pointed forward with his sleeves just dropping down
to be fair, 3d modeling can be incredibly difficult, as well as the fact that they probably were focusing on what the colora would look like in game environments rather than in the void lol
Am I the only one who loves Archeops in 3D? I remember looking around in Pokémon Y to see what my favorite Pokémon looked like in 3D and seeing Archeops immediately made me put it on my team
2D sprites had so much character to them and each one felt alive. The 3D sprites don't have much individuality to them and rarely have much more than two or so basic animations
Honestly I like the flying animation for Archeops It looks like it has to put in a lot of effort to fly, which makes sense because it's an early bird that isn't quite as good at flying
I would be perfectly accepting of a mainline(or even a side game that took the place of it) Where the only thing they did was animation and terrain polishing, no story, just a big map of updated textures and animations
3D models can be done very well, which they already have been in the Pokemon colosseum games. The energy and character put in those animations exceeds almost all 2D sprites easily.
The color thing bugs me the most, they have some of these pokemon looking like they were left in the sun for a week

Gen 5 was the absolute peak of sprite design. There are a handful of Pokémon that I think look great in gen 8 though, like Rowlet.

Typhlosions flames are only supposed to go off during battle or when its agitated so that makes sense

to be fair, 3d modeling can be incredibly difficult, as well as the fact that they probably were focusing on what the colora would look like in game environments rather than in the void lol
I miss the vibrant colors and the charme of pixeled 2D sprites. They gave off more charme than the NPC Idle animations they have now
Am I the only one who loves Archeops in 3D? I remember looking around in Pokémon Y to see what my favorite Pokémon looked like in 3D and seeing Archeops immediately made me put it on my team
That is how archeops should look, its sprite didn't do it justice

2D sprites had so much character to them and each one felt alive. The 3D sprites don't have much individuality to them and rarely have much more than two or so basic animations

Gen 5 was peak sprites, and my first game and X and Y
I wonder how things would’ve been if they just stayed with the 2D Sprites.

Honestly I like the flying animation for Archeops
It looks like it has to put in a lot of effort to fly, which makes sense because it's an early bird that isn't quite as good at flying
I would be perfectly accepting of a mainline(or even a side game that took the place of it)
Where the only thing they did was animation and terrain polishing, no story, just a big map of updated textures and animations
3D models can be done very well, which they already have been in the Pokemon colosseum games. The energy and character put in those animations exceeds almost all 2D sprites easily.
