    - Always a joy to see Christopher on the channel. You guys pair up really well.
    - I think DV (who conceived the trailers again) is following the same basic strategy he did for part one: the first trailer is to hype the Frank Herbert fans like us by focussing on one hyper iconic scene that he adapted very closely to the book, then to give us brief appetizers of several other book moments... Irulan's writing, Feyd's arena scene and Margot which were cut from previous adaptations, the Water of Life, Gurney, Jessica called by Chani rushing on a worm to the location where Paul is "dead", the final duel, etc. This is the "look how faithful it is" trailer, for book fans. Trailer 2 will be the "narrative one" meant to bring the casuals into the seats, which huge battle scenes, more Chani, more grandiose shots etc.
    - Not sure why people believe Alia is being cut. Not only we saw her in one of Paul's vision in part one, but while discussing the fact he'd want to give the actors a bunch of years to age up before doing Messiah he specified that of course Alia would be recast but he'd like Zendaya and Timothée to be in their 30s. DV mentioned they'd stick to the timeline of book 1 with the 2 years gap (between parts 2-3 of the book), so Alia can't be aged.
    - The Thufir actor is listed in the credits at the end and pretty high up, so I'm guessing we'll get him as a major scene partner in Baron/Feyd scenes.
    - DV confirmed there's not time skip between parts 1-2. He didn't want to break dramatic continuity (it's the middle of part 2 of the book) and it's supposed to pick up just where we left off, so arrival at Sietch Tabr, probably. I don't think the movie will necessarily open with Paul's arc, however. I rather suspect an Irulan prologue giving us the "official version" of the events of part one, then celebrations of the Harkonnen victory and the introduction of Feyd, before we go back to Arrakis.
    - About Paul crying over Jamis, I'm fairly convinced Denis decided that moment would be much better kept for part 2 at the funeral instead.
    - Some mention Lady Fenring replacing the Count. Doubtful. DV said he didn't have to gender switch anyone in part two. My guess is the Count will be the minor character of the couple, because I'm guessing Denis plants to use Margot to interact with Mohiam, Irulan etc. to show what the BG's agenda is. The Count is just the Emperor's man. He thinks he's doing Shaddam's will, but the BG are controlling nearly all players at Court.
    - My guess is that Denis won't show Navigators, because he won't want to tie his hands this early about the main "creature" character in Messiah.
    - You guys skipped the most intriguing shot of all, the one of Jessica on her knees (not tattoos, no blue eyes), captured by a bunch of Harkonnen soldiers. I would have liked to see your speculation about what it is. (Mine: I think the prologue of the movie will show us the "Imperial version" narrated by Irulan of what happened on Arrakis.. the false version with no Sardaukars, Jessica and Paul captured and executed, etc.)

About the last one, its definitely not Jessica, I think it's Fremen Shishakli. You can see her cheering after Paul rode the worm as well; in the book he (ha, there's a gender-swapped character after all 😁) gave Paul his own hooks and fans are guessing [s]he's got a bigger role in the movie (Fedaykin leader or maybe even they combined her with Harah).

@@Atrydka That was a tough call as the actress from afar looks so much like Ferguson, but with an extreme close up it looks absolutely right that it's another young Fremen woman.

Five minutes in and already some interesting takes.
I felt like Hans Zimmer kicked my ass when I first saw the movie lol.
The score sounds ancient and futuristic at the same time.
    Second Oscar well-deserved!

I agree. John would not have been the right choice for this movie.

I've been anxiously waiting for this discussion. Dune is my favorite book as well. I think Part 2 looks really good from the first trailer.

There's no way you'd not want to watch Part 1. You surely need to watch it one more time before watching Part 2 to get in the mood and then after that another time together with Part 2

This trailer made me more excited to see Chani. I haven’t seen a lot of Zendya but I know she’s known as a great actress. I think she was able to express a lot in this trailer.

I agree Thufir got the short end of the stick. In the novel I saw him as the most important of the three male mentors (Thufir, Gurney, and Duncan) Paul had.

Sorry … John Williams over Hans Zimmer for Dune’s soundtrack? Christopher, John would have made Dune sound like Harry Potter. Hans has been lighting it up since Gladiator and he was not only the right choice for Dune but the only choice. He brought a primal/tribal flavor that John just would not be able to do. No offense to the legendary John Williams but a lot of what he has done since Harry Potter has sounded like Harry Potter.

If you caught it, it barely happened, the Baron did say “you have a wonderful kitchen, cousin” in the first one. He said it to Duke Leto, but he did say it.

Im thinking about Zendaya in the second half of Spiderman:No Way Home. She was actually quite good. I’m sure she will bring it in Dune Part II.
The entire cast is just stacked.

There’s an episode in the second season of euphoria when she had a drug induced monologue which is phenomenal, she is definitely an Emmy worthy actress.

Men fantastic to Dune in 😉 on a next level forum on this material as the fans count down the days. With so much social media hype surrounding part 2, you folks along with a small number of others (whose fandom stretches well beyond Dennis’s most awesome adaptation) remain standouts amongst all the online noise. 💪🏼🙏

Don’t you think Irulan might have just been doing her diary in her room, super casual and alone for the first image where you were expecting more fancy costuming?

Both the mentat got shafted in the first one and that hurt my soul. That bothered me the most. Thufir was so integral to Paul…..along with Duncan and Gurney.

the rule in my native language is that a word/name with a vowel followed by a double consonant like Harkonnen is always a short vowel, I don't know what the rule is for English.

No matter the rule for normal words, you can guarantee that there are common names that break every one of them in the US at least because we have such a wide variety of backgrounds for everyone.

Stilgar, in the movie, has to much water fat. He's not leathery looking enough for my taste. But then again, that is probably true for all the Fremen in the movie.
