    No No No. once you replace the housing, you open the bleed right on top of it and add coolant to the res slowy until it come out of the bleed. Your way may have air trapped in the engine

      Thanks for the tip! I have had no issues however doing it this way as the system will bleed itself.

    I replaced the thermostat 2 years ago. Im sure if I did it wrong it would have messed up by now. I had a large leak yesterday. Did not notice it til my temp gage rose some (230). Went to jiffy said was low filled moved on. Went up again. Noticed a leak. Went to shop and he was not sure. He suggested changing the radiator. I just pulled the grill off and do not see any leaking hoses or holes.
    When I drive the temp fluctuates and when I accelerate it climbs but when I release it slowly goes back down or while idling. Can you give me some ideas or guidance on what I can do next? Unfortunately I get dry humped alot with mechanics and im tired of it. I try to learn and educate myself and do it myself. Any pointers?

      You could have a bad water pump, clog somewhere, or a bad/leaking hose. Typically if your thermostat is bad it will fail "open" meaning in the winter your car will never get warm. Your issue is it's getting hot and not cooling. This like I said could be a bad water pump, a thermostat that failed shut, or a system that can't build pressure. If you have a leak, you need to find that first. Use paper towels and dry everything, then top the car off. Find the leak and address that. If it's still overheating, swap the thermostat as they are cheap. After that, I would look at the water pump. If you have a bad pump or impellers that are broken, you could be keeping cool at idle and not under load when it needs to move water/coolant. Good luck!

      An easy and cheap fix would be the thermostat. You can test your old one by boiling it on the stove and seeing if it opens. However, most fail open so you may have a bad water pump.

      @@ShawnWhetsel hey thanks bro are u on face book I want to seen u a video n what side is the water pump on

      @ShawnWhetsel  5 лет назад +1

      @@BUDDAZO glad to help. Sorry, but I don't really do social media. As for the water pump I'm not sure on the Journey how difficult it is, but it's belt driven so it will be one of the pulleys that the belt goes around. You will need to drain the coolant just like you do if you replace the thermostat from the radiator.

    Why didn't you take the plastic cover off? It would have been easier. It just pops off and snaps back into place. That's way too much antifreeze!
