you dont need to use the yellow top off tank ,just fill the reservoir with new antifreeze turn the heat on inside the car start the car up and then loosen the bleeder screw on top of the new thermostat till it quits bubbling air out then tighten the screw and then repeat this 3-4 times over the next 5 minutes then you are done getting the air out of your system
Thanks for the video. I'd recommend getting a small folding table to set removed parts on rather than setting them somewhere inside of the engine bay or in a pile of leaves on the cowl. Makes it easier to find the parts after getting distracted and less chance of dropping one somewhere in the engine bay that you have to then go find.
I think it depends on the position the thermostat is stuck in. If it’s closed it shouldn’t leak much. More so if it’s opened is where you get the mess because it’s not stopping coolants like it should.
$310 quote and now I’m determined to do it myself after 5 videos you’re so far the best the only difference is the end where you use the yellow funnel. I’m seeing people fill coolant then run the engine and use a screwdriver to tighten and loosen. Thoughts?
If you have the money I guess you could use what he had but the cheapest and easiest way would to just open the thermostat valve running w heat on hi to let air out.
Always fill the coolant tank to the line, not like he did. Tank needs room for the coolant to expand. Filling it all the way like he did wont allow it to expand and could possibly blow.
what is your affiliate code on amazon? I'm ordering this part now but also ordering a couple of other items and I'll use your code to help you out (whatever that may be)
How much does it usually cost to get something like this mixed. I have a 2014 Dodge Journey and I went to autozone and the code read the P0128 was wondering the price so I could get it done
The part from Advanced Auto is about $15. I took my Journey to the dealership to get a quote and it was $368 for them to do it. After that qoute, I did the job myself and it took about 15 minutes.
It’s cheaper and easier to bleed the system by using a screw driver turning the bleeder open and closed until there is no more bubbles coming out then you know it’s done right
Thanks for the video made the replacement of the thermostat go quick. I also upgraded to the aluminum thermostat housing.

Thanks for the instructions
I just posted this halfway through the video and then read your comment lol I can’t understand why he would waste time with that nonsense
Great video. Followed this exactly on my wife's 2013 Journey. Thank you!

One of the best videos on car repair. Great job
Thank you my brother for this wonderful work. I hope the craftsmen in Iraq can learn from this video for you
Hey man thanks for your video! You speak English and get to the point👌👍
Great skills one handed install.
You make it look so easy, I have great anxiety touching anything on my car, this vid. is motivational but I’m still too nervous.
Ain’t nothing to it but to do it. It’s 2 10mm bolts for god sakes!!
Great video it's easier than I thought do I need to purg the system
Excellent tutorial dude!! 💯💯
Awesome video...thanks!
Awesome info... thanks!
It doesn’t matter if its torqued to spec or cross threaded, tight is tight! 😅
If you don’t have the bleed system here, you can also bleed the system by opening the thermo valve until the bubbling stops.
THANK'S FROM MEXICO CITY
I’ve seen other video take off the thermostat first then the clamp and hose and it leaked out a lot less!

Need to replace thermostat on my moms 2017. It seems to be stuck open so the engine or coolant isn’t getting that hot.
Kool,I have same scanner 👍🏽bout to do same part change.p0128 & p0520.oil pressure sensor

Awesome video, can you link the scanner you use?
Make sure the old gasket is not stuck on or you will break the new plastic thermostat housing.Posting for a friend.

How much should a garage be charging for a job like that?
I don't see the link for the bleeder??
The link you posted says it doesn’t match a 2011 journey?
How many thermostats are in a Dodge Journey? O’Reilly Auto Parts was trying to sell my mom 2 thermostats.

Appreciate it!
Thanks for the info on scanner as well

@@OriginalHawk do I have to bleed the system with that additional part 🤔 , or is there another way 🤔
What year and size engine is this truck?
Do I have to use that yellow funnel? Or can I just let the car run with the coolant top off for a while and let the bubbles come out
use the bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing
replaced mines but still have code
That is probably the temperature sensor
@@rubio787 Thank you
@@rubio787 How can you determine whether it's a bad sensor or thermostat without replacing both?
No gasket
that bottom bolt can be a bitch to get in and tightened

Don’t use duralast crap parts people.
