I agree with you. I’m a performing musician and I believe girlfriend jealousy has lead to the lie regarding a ‘car accident’. Girlfriend jealousy of performing musicians is beyond common in my musical career. Your post reflects many other acts of kindness from Gary. I’m 69 now, but I know first hand the terrible measures that jealous girlfriends and some wives, ex or not…will take to try and destroy you. Both mentally, physically and emotionally. I’ve had this happen. I had a girlfriend that tried to stab me in the green room because a girl wanted my autograph, an ex-wife who would go ballistic whenever a female would walk up to me in the smaller venues, and request a song. I’m so glad that your son researched and discovered the truth!
@@bradrodgers4846 I knew a bass player with a wife like that. She'd show up to every gig she could attend & flirt with guys in the bar to piss him off & ruin his night. Lots of other similar stories like you mentioned as well. Safe to say one of the band members S.O. was often the reason bands broke up.
True story, I played a gig in a little pub in Northampton about 10 years ago, and the end of the 1st set was still got the blues. This hippy looking woman stood about 2 ft in front of me and just swayed during the solo. I thought she was a nut job until she introduced herself after the song as Donna's sister, Kitty. She told me how she introduced Gary to Donna after Gary had saved her from an abusive relationship with a very famous drummer of the time. She said he was on suicide watch after Donna left him for Gary Holton and nursed him back but he was never the same. I had a great conversation with her and could have listened to her for hours. The stories she said about Clapton, Rodgers etc were amazing. Her passing shot was that Gary would have been proud of my solo. I got home and sobbed me heart out. Gary was my hero and to here those words eclipsed every gig that I've played.
Paul. that was really cool of you the share what you experienced. As a musician, the stories that tell me the character of a musician mean alot to me. This is a hard life. Knowing how people handled things and what made them who they are..it says so much. When I heard "Im always Gonna Love You"...I heard Gary's pain..and Id bet it was from losing Donna. It was so authentic....it exceeded what the song could bear. RIP Gary. I always felt like I knew him.
@@georgebarry8640 Thanks George. It was an odd gig. One of those when you want to do your stuff, get paid and leave as quickly as possible but meeting Kitty made it to be up there with the best I've ever done. She told me so much about him that I felt like I personally knew him. She said that when he found out she was being abused by that drummer, Gary had a 1 bedroom flat and told her to have his bed whilst he slept on the sofa. He really looked after her and she said she loved him for it and was pissed off with her sister for what she did to him.
Gary Moore is a legend if he got those scars in a road crash or in a scuffle from a glass does it matter let his soul rest in peace one incredible guitarist who I was lucky to see on several occasions legend
Well for what it's worth I worked closely with Gary Moore in the 80's during his spell with Greg Lake,Solo and Philip Lynott.I did not experience any ''nasty'' traits just an emotional Irishman who was a phenomenal player. He was quite self concious about the scars which was a glassing incident he told me.I did not press him on it.We visited Dingwalls a few times where I was well out of my comfort zone but survived it unscathed.I left Gary as he began his blues journey to work on the Emerson,Lake & Powell project.I had been close friends with Greg Lake since the mid 1960's and was ready for a new challenge.
I met Gary several times when working for Fender. He would come over to our showroom to try out new amps. Our offices were situated above the showroom and employees used to Moan like f*** when bands/ artist used to come and play very loud. Except that is when Gary came. Doors left open for all to hear and appreciate. He was a lovely guy and always a gent. Very lucky to have had the chance to work with one of my favourite guitarists.
Knew a guy who grew up with him and is an astounding player in his own right. Always spoke fondly of him , But always said Gary never just played his Les Paul , he made it speak to your soul. Rip Gary
I'll tell you something about Gary. A friend of mine had the good fortune to meet Gary back stage, Gary said lets go for a coffee, and he talked for ages about things and his playing. Not many celebraties would do that. When I first heard Gary play it went deep inside me, and to this day I still study his playing which has helped me over the years to focus on the guitar. I saw him play with Skid Row in 1970, the whole band were mind stopping. We have all got that little devil on our shoulder, but I know Gary was true to his heart. He was a very strong character I feel and could take any situation, no coincidence that he was from Belfast. I love him for his music which was a true gift.
I grew up in Camden - very near Dingwalls . Camden was very rough back in the 70's - and I did hear that Moore got glassed in Dingwalls back in the day. Lemmy got thrown through a pub window round the corner - extreme violence was normal but it was a very exciting and interesting place to grow up in . Fun times !
It wasn’t much better in the late 70s early 80s had loads of rowdy fun times as an 18 year old punk. All it is now at least around the market is Turkish Mafia run shops selling tat to tourists and lots of blacks hanging about in gangs
@@anthonymitchell8893 It depends who you are, and what type of people you hang around with. Serious crime is usually covered up to protect the tourist industry. Murders do not usually make the local paper . Camden has some serious problems - drug abuse and mental health issues mainly - but Camden Lock is now a boring tourist trap, that mainly sells food and crap tee shirts. The music scene is non existent and the homogeneous culture has been almost eradicated. Apart from that it's all good lol
The Truth is that Gary has departed and he is no longer with us in a physical sense. However I will pay my respects to his memory and music by paying a visit to his grave in my home city of Brighton & Hove where he lived.
Gary was a huge influence on my playing from way back in the day. I always looked up to him from the Skid Row days on. I never got to see him live because Im from the States. The world lost a great player when he passed. Thanks for the commentary and video
I met Eric Bell in a bar on the Ormeau road Belfast many years ago, I didn't know who he was. A local blues band was playing and they called him up to do a song and when he started to play the hairs on the back of my neck stood up! Absolutely incredible! I spoke to him at the bar and asked if he would do another song. He never once mentioned that he played with Thin Lizzy I found out later. For me he is the original and by far the most Expressive and best player the band ever had.
Many moons passed, Tooting Bec. Eric Bells blues band were playing and Garry turned up. I have no idea what the problem was but they played Parisienne Walkways, Empty rooms and a few other tunes. About 20 to 30 people there
I played guitar in a band at Dingwalls in the mid eighties. Luckily I didn’t have any bother or scars as a result. I did get beaten up pretty badly in a London pub years later but that’s another story.
Heard these accounts before and thanks for the input, whatever the truth, Gary was a magical guitarist, love his style and playing, and his songs, Eric also a fabulous guitar player and both these guys have my greatest respect for what they have done for music, RIP Gary, still listening!
Best guitar solo I’ve ever heard was done by Gary Moore, in his 50’s… I play lead and know good music… and live long enough and you’ll have scars as well. Whether physical or emotional it’s all the same. RIP Mr Moore.
7:16 Gary Holton (1953 - 1985) was a British singer-songwriter, musician and actor from London. He was the frontman of the band Heavy Metal Kids (1972-1977), worked with Casino Steel (1981-1984), and played the part of Wayne (a.k.a. London) in the UK television comedy Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983-1985). Holton died from an overdose of morphine combined with alcohol in 1985.
Famously auditioned for AC/DC gig after Bon but was red carded by the Young's after he showed up with a crate of ale. Obviously didn't want another hard drinking bad boy boogier.
As a guitar of 25+ years,.....let me just say this. No matter how exceptional you are a something,.......it should never take precedent over your character and moral compass. Ginger Baker is another great example. Incredible drummer. Abhorrent human being. Be a good person first folks.
@@davidrice3337 There’s a documentary about Ginger (forgot the name of it)he wasn’t too nice to people over the years but he admits it. Hell if I remember correctly he even attacks the Director in the beginning of it
Great video, and a unique and interesting discussion on this curious topic! Yes, the evasive stories point to a fracas gone wrong, but being a prominent signed musician with management, this would have been bad publicity, hence the ‘official’ story. Gary just wanted to play it down and get on with his life. It’s true, pubs were violent places. Glassing was all too common, as were fights generally. Not so much knives, though, just raw and violent times.
RIP Mr Gary Moore thanks for beautiful music you left us all, you inspired me to play the blues, those bends you made it sing, surly missed Gary Moore xxxxx ❤️ Stop messin around ##bbb
From an interview with Donna Holton: News of the World - 1985: Donna Holton walked out on Gary Holton 7:16 in 1981 - their two year marriage shattered by his violence, drug taking and other women. But she said: "He wasn't a bad man. All Gary really needed was someone to smother him with love." Donna, torn apart by grief after Gary's shock death, knows she will have to face his other girlfriends at the funeral. She said bravely: "I'll be the strong one there. Other girls will be crying at the graveside - but not me. I won't wear black because I know Gary wouldn't want that. He would want me to be Donna - the Donna he really loved and always came home to." They met in a London nightclub in 1979 when Gary was an up-and-coming actor. Gary was revelling in his Cockney Charmer image - the act that was to make him a household name a few years later as Wayne in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. Donna said: "He came over to me and ordered me to buy him a double brandy and said he wanted to get rid of the girls who were hanging round him. I bought him the drink and then threw it all over him. I thought he was showing off and I wanted to teach him a lesson. He stood there with brandy dripping off him and gave me that gorgeous smile that I'll always remember him for." Gary moved into Donna's home that night and a few months later they were married. "Gary asked me to marry him that first night, but I didn't take him seriously at first. He'd been out with rich girls and beautiful models and I was a nobody. He came one Tuesday evening and said "What are you doing Thursday?" He put a ring on the table with some marriage application forms and said:" We're getting married on Thursday so make sure you're there." For the first ten months of their marriage Donna fought to get Gary off drugs. Sometimes he fought back physically. "Gary could be an absolute pig. He beat me up several times but it was always when he was either stoned or drunk. I was very frightened of him when he was like that, but I knew he wouldn't do it when he was sober. Once when he was hitting me I threatened to leave him. He knew I meant it and he broke down begging me to stay, I suppose other women would've left. I knew in the back of my mind that if I could stay with him I could make him better." "I didn't mind the girlfriends, Gary didn't know what he really wanted. Half of him wanted a family - half of him wanted fame and fortune. I did get pregnant by Gary but I lost the baby. That really cut Gary up because he longed to be a Dad." Donna added: "The only girl I do feel bitter about is Sue Harrison, the Mother of his Son Red. She sold the story of his drug-taking to the newspapers just before he died." Donna said every few months Gary would return to her - just turn up on the doorstep with a carrier bag. "All he'd say was "Hi Baby, can I come back?" and I'd always take him back. It sounds though I was weak, in fact I was being strong for Gary - and me." Donna last saw Gary three months ago when he was living a bizarre three-in-a-bed life with his lover Jahnet McIllwan and her boyfriend Brian Odgers. He was using a lot of heroin and was very depressed. "Gary told me he wanted to give our marriage another go and he wanted me to help him get off drugs and get back to a normal life. Looking back, Gary was afraid for his life. He knew how much he abused his body with drugs and drink and he knew he couldn't go on like that forever. If only I'd been able to see how desperate he was I might have been able to save him."
@@coloneltrumpman Sorry, no disrespect to Gary Moore really. I was just asked many times about what happened to the girl later. So I found this information and wanted to share it with you guys. I think it's really intresting and you might be interested. Plus Gary Holton is a very interesting person. He was also a rock musician and actor. He led a rock n roll life style and tragically died from an overdose in 1985.
Yes I found this very confusing, the video is supposed to be about Gary Moore & takes off in a totally different direction when Gary Holton is mentioned??? The way it's written, I first thought she was talking about Gary Moore but all the talk of drug taking didn't fit. I think that interview should be removed from here so as not to cause any further confusion, it certainly adds nothing to the subject.
@@bluesdoc737: I agree too. It could give the wrong impression that Gary MOORE was a wife-beater, which he wasn't. It makes me angry that Holton beat Donna up, and being stoned/drunk is zero excuse. Holton was himself once punched by John Bonham, and he certainly didn't enjoy that experience - nor did he fight back.
And Brian Robertson also managed to get glassed in the hand in a pub brawl too, causing Lizzy to postpone a US tour. Their fiery celtic temperament put the band on a path of self destruction.
The tour was not postponed . Gary Moore was brought in to play the tour The tour ran from January 1977 to April 1977. Phil wanted Gary to stay on but he declined and Robertson came back in July of 77
"A girl couldn't do that much damage" Seriously? Have you ever been in a relationship with a woman? Ever pissed off a woman? I promise you a woman can absolutely do that much damage.
I agree, they can get vicious and crazy with jealousy, and they could easily do this type of damage, especially at a bar when she and everyone else is drunk.
My dad grew up in east end London, said that fighting was common in England. Watch out for the quiet guy drinking in the corner and the random beer bottle flying across the bar.
Someone insulted his girlfriend in a bar in Covent garden in London. From his own mouth in a country pub just outside Rottingdean where Gary lived and he would turn up and play sometimes .. Greatest blues player ever RIP Gary we miss you so much ❤️
This is unfortunately what happens when someone who does not live in the UK writes a story -you never receive plastic glasses in a pub , and they were introduced in clubs because they were cheaper not because people were glassing each other -pubs were no more violent in the 70s than now , i worked in pubs here and ive seen hundreds of gigs here in standing only venues and never seen an incident with a glass -this whole thing is nothing to do with music or guitars -the rubbish about razor blades is exactly that , pity you cannot show some respect to someone who is dead now and could wipe the floor with many featured on this site..
@@Syncroschannel Yep! I totally agree, As a gigging muso myself, glassing was common in a lot of places and I also saw the transition from beer glass to plastic and im sure it was to stop the glassing going on and not for the owner to save money as someone has said. Glassing was happening every night somewhere in towns in the UK. A very violent time and the bouncers did'nt give a shit either! I was playing in Hucknall, Nottingham, I went to get paid and out came the bike chains! You only have to listen to the lyrics of AC/DC's "Its a long way to the top" to hear about what was going on at the time
i remember the camden palace switching over to plastic.skinheads used to take over the upper balcony and drop pint glasses onto the dancefloor.not nice.....

Ahhhh not all pubs here were lary back in the day ! but if you were too gobby, then, like anywhere it could kick off in the wrong pub. I saw G.M play when he was 16 .... he was well handy then... I have also played the old Dingwalls, wrought iron posts on the stage and flooded toilets.... happy days.
in that song he says = i must take my leave my love ! - so was it her when he moved on ? - romeo and the lonly girl - seemed to hit it off - then 1 day romeo said = great band thin lizzy - great player gary moore ! thank`s.
I have looked at the photos and what appears to me, is that Gary was slashed , from left to right, by a very gagged object and by the number of wounds, this appears to be a broken bottle. That being said, who did it ... why was it done is truly not important about the man. Gary Moore should be an ICON in the legends of guitarists. Hell, I was privileged to see him twice in the early 80's. One time as a second act to Def Leppard and the headliner Krokus and he was amazing!!! Years later, I was to see him again in a small club/theater in my home town and Gary ... simply "Smoked It" ... one of the best performances that I have ever seen !!! I know that this will piss off many Eddie Van Halen fans, but truth be told ... Mr. Gary Moore could burn him to the ground. Gary ... was special.
I wished I learned earlier in my youth that bars are basically no good. I'd rather have spent that time hanging out at starbucks till they closed on my saturday nihts in stead of blowing money to be around other desperate people where women are usually at a 1/10 ratio....and they tend to be shallow.
Another good man who had his heart ruined by a woman who wanted multiple men at the same time. There is reason why the best blues players can touch people's heart and it's because you have to have a broken heart to play the blues the right way and a lot of people have their heart broken or are sad in their lives.
In the 80s, as a passenger in my gf's Toyota Tercel, she hit someone who ran a red light which sent me through the windshield and I ended up on someone's front yard. It took a doctor a couple of hours to pick all of the glass shards out of my face and arms. The only remaining scar I have is a small one on the bridge of my nose. So yeah, Gary certainly could have gotten those scars from going through the windshield.
I'm sure I read an article, late 70s,in Sounds magazine,he got glassed I a pub called The Castle in London,Holland park/Notting hill.Very gentrified round there now,but back then a rough tough very clannish old place
I was young during the seventies, it was a violent place, as a kid I saw many grown men fighting outside of pubs. With hindsight so many of us, myself included had WW11 veterans for fathers. One good friend was bottled waiting at a hamburger van in Glasgow, the scar wasn't too bad but it left my mate traumatized.
I never knew who Donna was . In around 78 I seen Gary on the old grey whistle test with Lizzy doing Parisienne walkways and don’t believe a word . I took my 1st weeks wages and bought his back on the streets slbumbwhi I really loved . My favorite song on it was an almost jazz rock funk ballad called Song for Donna . The album was amazing as a matter of fact I’m heading over to I tunes now to download it . RIP Gary . Though there is probably something in the fact in his younger days he was not that nice a guy . I seen him supporting Van Halen with G force that came year and he snd the singer had a disagreement dnc he booted him and the singer walked off they did about 20 minutes of the set . The greenery Les Paul was damaged by a Roady and Gary apparently gave him a right kicking for it though in fairness I can’t blame him for that repaired it went on to do Parisienne still got the blues etc
I don’t get the comment(s) in the video that said, if Gary had got those scars in a car accident, it would have taken many, many months to have recovered. So, if someone glassed / slashed his face, it wouldn’t have been any different? I really don’t get that. I know Gary could be impatient, and could show his temper from time to time (as he did at a South Coast U.k . concert I saw him at. At the end of the day, Gary was a human being, and an extremely talented one at that, his guitar playing is probably some of the very best I will ever hear in my life time. R.I.P. Gary.
Oh, boy. I love, love, love Gary… But, this was tough to hear… As far as the last scenario goes: 1. If a girl dresses a certain way in public, it’s because she wants to be noticed and approached by a certain caliber of man. If she’s already dating/married to someone, she’s looking to replace him. A woman who is happy with her relationship will not dress or act a certain way in public that will invite the attention of other men, because she doesn’t want it. 2. Never, *ever* get mad at the other guy for trying. Maybe he is indeed a dirtbag, but he ultimately owes you nothing. It’s up to your girlfriend/wife to reject his advances. If she’s reciprocal towards his advances, the relationship is as good as over. Maybe she won’t leave you for him, specifically. But, she’s clearly entertaining the idea of other men. Walk up to them, say to her “hey, you two have a great night”; look at the other guy and calmly say “hey bud, she’s your problem now; good luck”. Walk. I don’t care how much she starts screaming and crying and pulling on you - walk. Say nothing, and walk hard. You’ll be saving yourself a whole lot of girl drama in the future, and potentially your face.
@@karsguitarchannel6088 Lol a man can have many women throughout his lifetime - the same can’t be said for his face. Gotta educate the guys on how to keep theirs intact!
Well I don't know the real story, but when some dude starts flirting with your girl in front of you he's not just flirting with her... he's disrespecting you. All guys know this so if that's what happened then the other guy was instigating a fight. Maybe the mature thing to do is just leave with your girlfriend and go some place else, but I don't think it makes a difference if Gary was defending her honor or his own self respect. It doesn't make him the bad guy.
I have a small scar on my nose and chin from a minor car accident, it can happen. Not saying it did or did not happen that way just that it is possible.
@The Aries Experiment You don't seem to like when people agree with you, I see. My other comment was agreeing with yours, and despite replying to the channels creator here, I was also agreeing with you. Maybe you should take time to read before commenting.
I've lived in the UK all my life. I've never heard anything about plastic glasses being used in pubs. I was in a pub in the early 2000s when a guy got glassed. They may have been introduced in some pubs but Britain wasn't the wild west
I've known 2 pubs use plastic glasses for drinks due to violence in South Yorkshire - The Grapes at Dalton & my old local The Towpath at Swinton, both notably rough so served drinks in plastic from the 80s to mid 90s because of the risk of glassing. The Towpath was revamped completely in 95 as The Canal Bar, it's image altered & it changed back to selling drinks in glassware. The tables & seating were also bolted down so you couldn't overturn them or use a chair as a weapon. Swinton itself at a certain point, although being small, had a wide reputation in South Yorkshire for being rough on a weekend, notably The Towpath & The Ship Inn. Both a big part of my youth & now sadly long gone, but only The Towpath used plastic despite The Ship being just as dodgy. There was a blood stain on the wall near the DJ box once which was there ages until they redecorated 😅
@@dannyfardell5271haha! Amazing! I played piba and clubs around Yorkshire back in the late 90’s to mid 00’s and can confirm there were some VERY naughty venues. I remember the Ship fondly. The Little Un, up the road in Moorthorpe, another amazing venue in its day that was dodgy, if you upset the wrong people. I do think he overplays how dangerous it was though, and like you said, mostly the venues still used glasses, albeit some briefly switched to plastic and others did for other reasons.
@matt-fh6hb nice one!😅 Yeah got some great memories of those pubs, The Ship in particular, especially round the mid 90s. The Towpath reverted back to using glassware when it had a 'revamp' & changed its name to the Canal Bar, which was lit up at night. Few years later the 'C' stopped working, thus advertising the venue as the 'anal bar'😅
The plastic beer glasses thing is a licensing restriction that usually only gets applied to venues or events with an expectation of big or rowdy crowds (festivals, sports events, certain bars during sports events if they’re showing them on screens), or on pubs/bars with a history of violence.
I met him when I was 13 years old, during his tour with G-Force. I called him an ugly bastard. I was a cheeky kid creating mischief out of boredom while waiting for Whitesnake to turn up at the hotel. I was after autographs. Looking back, I'm not proud of my childish behaviour, which I now know is downright rude and obnoxious. However, Gary was lovely and took the time to explain about the time he was in a pub with a mate who was with his girlfriend. Some guys started to talk to his mate's girlfriend in an inappropriate way. Gary stood up between them to try to dissolve the conflict they were creating. Without warning, he got a bottle shoved in his face and twisted. I felt very apologetic for my earlier comments, but he took no real offense, possibly because I was a little kid (I looked a lot younger than my age). We carried on chatting for a while that afternoon, November 4, 1979. I later saw him perform with GForce as the support band to Whitesnake. I've never forgotten this time, even though it was over 44 years ago.
I had a long term crush on a guy who had a limp. His story of how he got the limp was a motorbike accident. Many years later I learned it was Rheumatoid Arthritis. So. Everyone has their reasons to lie. I guess he did it to impress me.
My x wife wrecked a car one night. the girl with her in the passenger seat suffered three scars on her face from the windshield or door glass. 1 of the scars was like 7 inches right down thru her cheek.
Flirting with others can be okay depending on the relationship. If the relationship is solid, and both are secure then there's no harm in a bit of flirting, and who wants to go through life carefully avoiding anyone who pays them a compliment?
I already knew about how the man got his scars when I first heard of him and started listening to him about 30 plus yrs ago. He was in a bar and the girl he was with had been hit on and the 2 idiots then started to say something about her and Gary heard this and a bar fight ensued and Gary ended up in the emergency room with facial stitches and that's how he acquired his scars. I don t need to subscribe to you tube to get info on someone and something I already know.
The true story is my friend Barry Manfred his flat mate at the time told me his girlfriend did it in their flat after finding out that Gary cheated on her with a broken wine bottle.
I remember when Gary used to walk into the bars, break beer bottles on the counter, catch people by their necks and ask them Do you know how I got these scars? Legend says that he gave a different answer everytime
I don't buy your premise about a car accident. I've been in several car accidents and there ARE NO RULES ABOUT GETTING INJURED IN A CAR CRASH. Physics don't play by your rules.
Maybe she was a psycho (why he left her) as well as drunk. Why should it be assumed he deserved to be disfigured for life and it's ok because a woman did it?
I think you overplayed the violence in Britain a fair bit there. Most pubs in Britain still use traditional glasses, made of glass. Plastic glasses are usually used at festivals and outdoor events. Ironically I have been both glassed and bottled, but by a psychotic ex, not because of trouble in pubs. Like Gary, I also tell colourful tales of where I got scars, usually through embarrassment that I allowed myself to be dominated by a woman for so long like I did. I always assumed Gary was similar, and that he was a victim of domestic violence and his it/downplayed it through shame.
You can't really rely on 50 year old information from drunks in a bar. Gary was a real guitar hero and we are just lucky he didn't come out as a rapey child molester unlike so many other artists from the old guard.
Urban legend had it that the 'glassing' of Gary Moore happend in the Holland Arms on Kensington High Street. I'd heard it from several sources though I realise that doesn't make it true.
There are varying degrees of car crashes and sustained injuries. I once had a catastrophic car crash (100kmh head on with similar car doing same speed). I got cuts on my face, plus a multitude of other injuries that too decades to get over, if ever. I also witnessed a girl ‘glass’ a man in a pub once (misspent youth), she tore his eye out and made his cheek hang off his face. Conclusion:- I don’t think you have enough evidence to form a conclusion. It’s down to who do you believe.

Thank you for sharing this..A true gentleman. Very sadly missed..Paul.

Great comment Erick 👍🏻 awesome guitarist and the reason why I started playing 👍🏻🏴🎸
Gary was my hero and to here those words eclipsed every gig that I've played.
nice 1 man. he was all our hero in the late '70's early '80's if you played guitar better even then van halen
Paul. that was really cool of you the share what you experienced.
Such a cool experience man
Amazing story! Thanks for sharing that !

When i head the story many years ago the glassing had happened in a English pub..he added the comment..''A Irishman would never do that''
I met Gary several times when working for Fender.

Couldn’t care less. Lucky enough to see Gary play a few times. Never heard a Gibson Les Paul sing like he did.
Whatever the story.
We lost a master of his craft.
I was so lucky to get to see him in Wembley, London.❤
And that's the bottom line 👍
I wish could have seen him, pretty honest guy and best guitarrist of blues rock
I grew up in Camden - very near Dingwalls . Camden was very rough back in the 70's - and I did hear that Moore got glassed in Dingwalls back in the day.
Lemmy got thrown through a pub window round the corner - extreme violence was normal but it was a very exciting and interesting place to grow up in . Fun times !
is it not more dangerous now ?
No,Camden's pretty good ,much worse places in other parts of London
It wasn’t much better in the late 70s early 80s had loads of rowdy fun times as an 18 year old punk. All it is now at least around the market is Turkish Mafia run shops selling tat to tourists and lots of blacks hanging about in gangs

It depends who you are, and what type of people you hang around with.
Thank you, such a great pleasure!!
The guys comment about Eric bell is so true, just listen to his playing on iconic album Vagabonds of the western world..❤
I met Eric Bell in a bar on the Ormeau road Belfast many years ago, I didn't know who he was.
About 20 to 30 people there
I’ve heard it was a werewolf attack. It slashed his face so he beat it to death with his bare hands.
@Mister Tee, yes it was werewolf of London.
I heard it was bill Wyman who slashed Gary after Gary tried hitting on Wyman's girlfriend
No no you're wrong, he killed that werewolf with his Gibson Les Paul...These things are heavy...
This is the stupidest comment I've ever read. It definitely wasn't a werewolf. It was teen wolf.

Yes, the evasive stories point to a fracas gone wrong, but being a prominent signed musician with management, this would have been bad publicity, hence the ‘official’ story. Gary just wanted to play it down and get on with his life.

From an interview with Donna Holton: News of the World - 1985:
Donna Holton walked out on Gary Holton 7:16 in 1981 - their two year marriage shattered by his violence, drug taking and other women. But she said: "He wasn't a bad man. All Gary really needed was someone to smother him with love."
Donna, torn apart by grief after Gary's shock death, knows she will have to face his other girlfriends at the funeral. She said bravely: "I'll be the strong one there. Other girls will be crying at the graveside - but not me. I won't wear black because I know Gary wouldn't want that. He would want me to be Donna - the Donna he really loved and always came home to."
They met in a London nightclub in 1979 when Gary was an up-and-coming actor. He stood there with brandy dripping off him and gave me that gorgeous smile that I'll always remember him for."
Gary moved into Donna's home that night and a few months later they were married. "Gary asked me to marry him that first night, but I didn't take him seriously at first. He'd been out with rich girls and beautiful models and I was a nobody. He came one Tuesday evening and said "What are you doing Thursday?" He put a ring on the table with some marriage application forms and said:" We're getting married on Thursday so make sure you're there."
For the first ten months of their marriage Donna fought to get Gary off drugs. I knew in the back of my mind that if I could stay with him I could make him better."
"I didn't mind the girlfriends, Gary didn't know what he really wanted. It sounds though I was weak, in fact I was being strong for Gary - and me."
Donna last saw Gary three months ago when he was living a bizarre three-in-a-bed life with his lover Jahnet McIllwan and her boyfriend Brian Odgers.
Gary Holton??

Yes I found this very confusing, the video is supposed to be about Gary Moore & takes off in a totally different direction when Gary Holton is mentioned??? The way it's written, I first thought she was talking about Gary Moore but all the talk of drug taking didn't fit. I think that interview should be removed from here so as not to cause any further confusion, it certainly adds nothing to the subject.
@@bluesdoc737 I agree
@@bluesdoc737: I agree too. It could give the wrong impression that Gary MOORE was a wife-beater, which he wasn't. It makes me angry that Holton beat Donna up, and being stoned/drunk is zero excuse. Holton was himself once punched by John Bonham, and he certainly didn't enjoy that experience - nor did he fight back.
And Brian Robertson also managed to get glassed in the hand in a pub brawl too, causing Lizzy to postpone a US tour. Their fiery celtic temperament put the band on a path of self destruction.
That was when he stepped in to stop his mate Frankie Miller from being attacked and Robbo bore the brunt of it.
The tour was not postponed . Gary Moore was brought in to play the tour The tour ran from January 1977 to April 1977. Phil wanted Gary to stay on but he declined and Robertson came back in July of 77

Yes I heard many yrs ago he got them through drinking in Belfast.

Amen. Big waste of money, too 🤨
Another good man who had his heart ruined by a woman who wanted multiple men at the same time.
Little Darling is one of my favorite Lizzy Tunes
I'm sure I read an article, late 70s,in Sounds magazine,he got glassed I a pub called The Castle in London,Holland park/Notting hill.Very gentrified round there now,but back then a rough tough very clannish old place
I was young during the seventies, it was a violent place, as a kid I saw many grown men fighting outside of pubs. With hindsight so many of us, myself included had WW11 veterans for fathers. One good friend was bottled waiting at a hamburger van in Glasgow, the scar wasn't too bad but it left my mate traumatized.
I asked on his website several years ago and the response I got was “Gary got his scars when some one pushed a glass into his face.”
R.I.P. Gary.
Jealousy knows no bounds, be you a prince or a pauper - when a guy\girl gets over that hurdle, your life becomes so much easier.
Gary adored Donna but who knows where the scars came from. Met them both eons ago while working Decca. Great guitarist. Rip ❤️
Who was that Donna Holton? A model, or just a groupie?
Oh, boy. I love, love, love Gary… But, this was tough to hear… As far as the last scenario goes:
Oh I like this - “Hey, you two have a great night. Hey bud, she’s your problem now; good luck!" lol, thanks

There was a blood stain on the wall near the DJ box once which was there ages until they redecorated 😅
never been to liverpool then.
Lots of pubs you have your own mug behind the counter.
Romeo Moore, my mind is blown! Thanks for that...
And because he hated and was ashamed of it.
I thought he had visited Scotland. A souvenir from Glasgow
Moral of the story: don’t go down the pub with a girl dressed like a schoolgirl; not worth it!
Even if you are only 16 😂
I already knew about how the man got his scars when I first heard of him and started listening to him about 30 plus yrs ago.
Yeah and I heard it from his mon that his dad cut him while asking "why so serious". True story that one, too.
The true story is my friend Barry Manfred his flat mate at the time told me his girlfriend did it in their flat after finding out that Gary cheated on her with a broken wine bottle.
Sounds painful 😅
How do you cheat on someone with a broken wine bottle?
I remember when Gary used to walk into the bars, break beer bottles on the counter, catch people by their necks and ask them
Do you know how I got these scars?
Legend says that he gave a different answer everytime
I don't buy your premise about a car accident. I've been in several car accidents and there ARE NO RULES ABOUT GETTING INJURED IN A CAR CRASH. Physics don't play by your rules.
Maybe she was a psycho (why he left her) as well as drunk. Why should it be assumed he deserved to be disfigured for life and it's ok because a woman did it?
Regardless what the story is someone slashed his face.
Could've been an accident, therefore no-one slashed his face.
He got bottled in a pub fight it was spoken About on a thin Lizzy documentary
His Ex said the guy was flirting not harassing her, WOW she wasn't worth the fight Gary, RIP man.
Yes, very sad
"But in a car accident you don't just get..."
Wtf are you talking about?
Wow.
He always struck me as a guy that got bullied a lot when he was young. But I don’t know I wasn’t there
What a great guitarist
I haven’t lived in UK since the 70s. It was extremely violent, but idk if it’s any better from what me relatives say.
I always imagined it was broken strings popping up to hit him in the face.
I feel sure I've seen photos of him as a kid where he also had them. I assume it was some sort of condition.
Who gives a shit all I know is he's one of the baddest guitarist of all time very underrated r.i.p.Gary u will always be a badass Brother
