And now for the video script... :)
If you are in the construction industry and would like to tender on government construction projects, you must register with Construction Industry Development Board or CIDB since government regulations require all public construction tenders be awarded only to CIDB registered contactors. Once you are registered with CIDB you will be notified when relevant tenders open for application.
If you are in the home building industry then you will need to register with National Home Builders Regulatory Council or (NHBRC) which is an agency of the Department of Human Settlements and not Public Works and does not form part of this video.
The CIDB registration consist of 2 criteria; your business track record, which is represented by the grade 1 to 9 and construction sector which is selected from the predetermined list of class of works. The grading system works on the size of the contracts that you have had in the past, your financial and works capability and your capacity to perform projects so new businesses would register as a grade 1.
The class of works has 20 different construction sectors ranging from civil and electrical work to general building. You can apply for as many classes as you like, but just bear in mind that each class cost R450.
Your CIDB registration grade and class means that you are only certified to carry out work in the class in which you are registered and up to the maximum value of work permissible for that grade. You will therefore compete against contactors with the same grading which promotes fairness and transparency.
Subcontractor and “labour only” contractors do not have to register for CIDB.
The registration is valid for three years, before it must be renewed. CIDB no longer issues physical certificates as you will be notified electronically via SMS and email when your registration is active and registered on the Register of Contractors where you can view your status online.
So, what do you need to register for CIDB? It is the usual Company documents, Director and Shareholder ids, a valid Tax clearance and BEE certificates. Please sign and date the attached CIDB declaration and email the documents to us. We will then certify the documents for you.
A top tip is to use the same email address and cell number as the CSD registration as the databases are linked which speeds up the process.

Hey thanks. on the Contractors registration guide brochure, there’s a check list and on the SECTION D: FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS, they want a 2 years financial statement. My company has not made money yet, so what documents do I put in there?
Hi there, I am assuming you are not registered with CIBD. If that is the case you have to first register as Grade 1 and then move up the grades as your business grows and you gain more experience. For Grade 1 they do not require 2 years financials. I hope I have answered your question.
@@swiftreg thank you so much 🙏🏽
Hey, thank you for the video. Please tell me what I should do when the CIDB doesn't recognise my CSD number? How do I solve that?
Hi Sitile, thank you for the compliment. We have never experienced such a problem before. My only suggesting would be, is to contact CIDB directly. Their number is 086 100 2432. Please let us know if you mange to resolve it.
Thank you for the insight. Having mentioned that Subcontractors do not have to register for CIBD certificate, what steps would a newly forming subcontractor take?
Hi Eugene, that is you to you. If you intend to tender on any government construction tenders (where the government is your client) you have to register with CIDB this means you will not be a subcontractor . However if you are tendering for jobs by a private contractor (EG Plumbing or Electricity) you will be a subcontractor but the CIDB registration is not required. I hope that answers your question.
@@swiftreg Yes it does answer my question, thank you🙏
What's is the difference between CSD and CIDB?
Can I get tenders of I'm only on CIDB, without being on CSD? & Vice versa
Hi Tawonga No, you have to first register with CSD in order to register with CIDB. The reason for this is that CIDB uses CSD as a verification agency. I have made a video on the CSD registration process. ruclips.net/video/SG4TNkBl2EI/видео.html
Hello
Hope you're doing great
I just want to know if we get a CIDB report after registering like we do with CSD or must I just provide the CRS number?
Hi Ratale, No you just get the CRS number.
Hi
i need assistance with grading the contractor paid money into my personal account for the duration of the project and financial statement/report was done for my company but CIDB would not want to accept this, any advice?
Hi Nathan, I am terribly sorry but we only deal with new registrations and renewals as they are done online. You would need to contact the CIDB call center directly. They are usually quite helpful.
hello, can i register a CIDB class of wok befor the CSD conforms my deails
Hi Masungulo, No you need to first register with CSD and also be tax compliant as this data is used by CIDB to register.
Please help, my tax status at Sars and CSD is compliant yet on CIBD its non compliant, how can i update this
Hi Ntombie, thanks for watching. Since both CSD and CIDB pull through the data from the SARS database directly when doing the registration, the only reason I can think of is that there is detail such as Tax Registration number which is incorrect. I would contact CIDB directly and query it with them.
@@swiftreg thank you
How do i get the crs number?when i register it says my details are already captured but i have no crs no
Hi Nel, how frustrating, my recommendation would be to call their call center. I hope you get it resolved.
Thanks for the Guidance, much appreciated 🤍🙏
My pleasure!
Hello. If i get CRS number does it mean i have already registered with CIDB or there are more steps needs to be taken?
No, you still have to apply for the different classes and grades

Hi, who does your video editing?
Over the years I have used three different video editors each with their own unique style, why do you ask?
@@swiftreg The videos are absolutely stunning and very professional. I am only starting on my YT channel and I've come to realise that it takes a lot of work to edit and bring a great product out. So I was considering getting someone to do the editiing for me so I can focus on the content
Thanks how do I check my status
Hi there, either online or via the call center.
Are u still available
Hi there, yes please contact the office on 021-5954433 or info@swiftreg.co.za
Why always saying CIBD not CIDB
Hi Bethuel You are correct, I do get tongue twisted with the abbreviation. Well done for spotting the mistake, it is CIDB.
@@swiftreg No problem ,nonetheless the content and presentation is great 👍
