If you want to tender on any government contract it is compulsory to register on the Central Supplier Database or CSD. In April 2016 National Treasury consolidated all government supplier information into a single database with the intention to establish a single database for up-to-date verified supplier information to be used by all government departments.
I mentioned verified information because all of the data you provide is checked and verified with the respective government departments as well as your bank. Only once all of your data has been verified with CIPC, Home Affairs, SARS and your bank, will you obtain your CSD number. To date over 800k suppliers have been verified and therefore successfully registered on the CSD as government suppliers.
So how do I register for CSD? The process is a two stage online registration. The first stage can by law only be done by you, the primary user and not a representative. To get started you need to log on the CSD website www.csd.gov.za and register a new account.
For this you will need a mobile phone and current email address as you will receive a OTP pin on your mobile phone and a verification email for you to click on to authenticate your email address. The OTP is only active for a window period of 5 minutes, so you need to ensure that you have your phone with you when you register. It is a good idea to plan your password beforehand to give you time to consider a secure password which is easy to remember. The password MUST consist of at least 8 characters and include at least one of each of the following; capital and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. For example 123e@syCSD
There are also a number of security questions which you will need to select such as; Where were you born, where was your first job etc. This is added security for telephonic verification of you as the primary user if you need to change your password or have forgotten it and you contact the call centre.
Once your account has been created you can log on and start with stage two which is to complete all of the supporting information such as contact addresses, bank account details, tax numbers, company ownership, industry sectors and BEE information. There is a lot of information which is pretty complicated to navigate through but once you have completed the data in a specific section it is saved.
As you complete the specific segments of the registration it is automatically verified with the respective government department. This part happens quite quickly as all government departments share information. We have found that the bank account verification is usually the most tricky which makes sense, as the banks servers are not linked to the government database for obvious reasons. Therefore the bank account verification may take a few days.
Once all of the information has been captured and verified you will receive a CSD number which will look something like this: EG MAAA0000005

I am trying to register to the CSD... we are a non profit company but it is asking us to select the ownership criteria. We are a public benefit organisation so none of the directors are shareholders. What are we supposed to do to get this fixed? Or should I rather contact the CSD directly?

Hi pH M Directors changes can only be done through CIPC. CSD will then verify the data from the CIPC database as the databases are linked. Therefore, you first need to change the directorship on CIPC and then go to the CSD website and update the information. If you need help with the director change we can assist you. Hi there, I am not sure how you would get hold of such information, other than searching on Google and meticulously building up your own suppliers lists.
@@swiftreg Thank you for the response. I have a client who says they've been removed from the CSD due to inactivity. I didn't think that could happen, seems counterproductive considering Treasury's aim. Thought I'd try and search using the MAAA number but the system doesn't allow for that unless you are an organ of state user.
hi i with like to know what vwrong if the csd is loginning off automaticly
The site times out (automatically logs you off) if you have been inactive on the page for some time. The session automatically expires to prevent the server waiting indefinitely for an instruction to respond so that it can be freed up.

If an individual is applying for a cleaners job at csd how is the person ment to answer annual turnover of share percentages and fill in the commodities section?
Hi Shaun the information should be similar to that of a company, meaning the shareholding will be 100% as an individual.

Hi Shaun CSD is totally separate from SARS. CSD is the Central Suppliers Database used for government tender compliance. While SARS is the tax authority who collect taxes from companies and individuals.

Hi there, This would mean that you have either registered before or somebody else is using your id number. To rectify the issue you would need to contact CSD directly and they will require an affidavit from you. This can be very frustrating to resolve.

Hi there, you get the CSD number immediately however the banks usually take about three days to verify the bank details.

Each company has its own CSD registration, meaning you can be represented on multiple companies each with their own CSD number.

Yes you should be able to. I would ask your last employer to assist you in being removed from the governments database.

Hi Abel, you should type it in as it appears on the registration document eg yyyy/123456/23 there must be 4 digits for the year and 6 digits between the slashed followed by 23 after the second slash. I hope that helps

Hi there, I would say all of them, as all data cells need to be completed. The part that gives the most frustration is the bank verification as this can take a few days to be approved. I hope this answers your question.

@@princessNtuli I dont think there's a need for that...Or you can just go to the CIPC website and do your BEE cert there then on the CSD website tick choose the option that you did your BEE cert on CIPC web...

Hi there, a vendor number is obtained from your local municipality if you intend to sell food to the public. The MAAA number is the CSD registration number.

Hi Tee, this information is displayed on your company registration certificate the Cor 14.3 The financial year end is usually the end of February as it coincides with the government budget when the new tax tables are published. In this case the start date will be 1 March each year.

Hi Nana, that's very frustrating. The problem is usually if there was a typo with the account number or the name of the account is not exactly the same as what banks have. Our experience is that customers that bank with FNB often experience these issues.

Hi Gcwabe Your CC must have 6 digits between the year and the /23 if not you have a very old CC so add zero's before the number to make up the six digits. The same applies for the year it must have four digits. EG 1991 not just 91
