Here's a hidden gem you didn't show. it's called Evil Zone for the PSX. It's a cool game where each characters story mode is treated like a anime TV show.
Devine Wynder - Oh, I have that game! I was just looking at my PS1 games a few days before watching this video, I was pretty terrible at the game but I liked the art style so I bought it years ago.
I remember buying Kengo from a used game store years ago. After I figured out the gameplay and move sets it became one of my top 5 games, still is to this day.
Bro Fighter's Destiny 1 and 2 were my childhood favs.... The cow was my favorite character, even tho he whooped my a** all the time xD same goes for joker
Haha, I'm not hardcore but still played most of these! Tobal No.1 and Iron & Blood were especially great at the time.. used to be so good at Iron & Blood I could beat my brothers playing with my feet. :P Also... that robot in Tobal No.1 had a self-destruct move (push the off button on it's back).
If I remember right, I played Kengo 2 under the name "Sword of the Samurai" in EU. It had some cool systems and did a good job of recreating the feel of old samurai movie duels (slowly facing off, gauging what the opponent can do from their stance and changing yours to beat it). Tbh honest the fighting wasn't as good as the style building, but that part was so deep it kept me playing for many hours. Weren't the Kengo games in some way related to Bushido Blade? I loved that game & really wish it had been built upon while retaining the lethal/no-health-bar ideas. Seems like all the games that followed moved further away from the most important concept, which was a waste IMO.
Tobal reminds me of Dragonball! The character designs were similar to: Flatop guy = Gotenks/Gohan Big rooster guy = Bojak Muscle girl = Kale Old man = Roshi Purple lizard guy = Jamemba
"Never heard of"?! August of 1995, I'm a young child of 8 at a concert, something they were calling the "Vans Warped Tour", really experimental thing at the time, when I see a display from Sony for this new gaming system they were calling the "Play Station". They want two players to face off for a small prize (a Playstation branded squirt gun) I come up, I'm excited for this new system and want to try it out. Some teenager comes up to challenge me. The game? Tobal No. 1. Long story short, I enjoyed that squirt gun :)
From the moment i read the title of this video, i said to myself: Kengo. Sure enough, it was the very first game shown in the video. Great game. It's Bushido on steroids. I own it. It's serious stuff. The rest... You got me. Never heard of them. And i love that. I am intrigued by obscure games. It's good to get away from the mainstream crap once in awhile. I like some of the physics. Grappling an enemy, engaging in a controlled clinch to then throw or slam them is something i like. Reminiscent to wrestling games in a way. I enjoy chain grapples. The one game on this list i'm having difficulty with researching is VS. What system was it on so i can look more into it?
Tobal No.1 is the only game I recognized from back then. It came out back in 1996 around the same time if I'm mistaken Tekken 2 did. The sequel Tobal No.2 was unfortunately only released in Japan back then because the first one didn't sell to well. I was actually finally able to play Tobal No.2 from a modded PSP a few years ago for the first time.
chigaderu I love Tobal. I also have an imported copy of Tobal 2. It's amazing, but the quest mode is a little chsllenging if you can't read japanese...
I like that you actually put the disclaimer explaining they keyword "probably." Most "you've never heard of" lists are flooded with comments of people who get offended at the notion that they might not be aware of something haha. Going through the list for me personally Kengo: Heard of it, never played it All-Stars Fighters: Never heard of it, looks like a hot mess Hard Knock High: Didn't know about this one either. Looks like it's in alpha or something haha Fighter's Impact: Heard of it, but it was Japan only. I did rent Vs., which it was the base for though. The combo system is interesting Battle K-Road: Never heard of it, looks kinda cool Tobal: Actually it's Tobal No. 1, and it was pretty known at the time because it was another collaboration between Square and Akira Toriyama; it got a lot of coverage in gaming mags. I was pretty psyched for the sequel Tobal 2 (which looked much improved from an already good game), but it never came out in the states Iron & Blood: Totally remember this one. It got a nice spread in one of my GameFan issues, and it seemed like it was going to be a big deal...then it wasn't haha. It was originally in development for the infamous Panasonic M2 console that was supposed to blow everyone's minds but never came out, so the version of the game released for PS1 wasn't nearly as graphically impressive as it was originally touted to be. The motion capture was supposedly done by historical weapons experts or something, but the animations and moves were nothing special or unique. The controls stunk and the game was just a complete mess VS.: Oh hey, there's VS. haha. As mentioned, I rented it back in the day Best of Best: Don't know that one, but it looks unintentionally hilarious haha Kakuge Yaro: Heard of it, never played it but wanted to because it looked solid. Those hit sparks are out of control though haha
2:30 the graphics in the background are better than on the actual characters. Also I noticed that the game would lag at certain points. Probably because the processing power was so low quality, that the game had trouble quickly outputting fighting moves, so the game slows down. But in the game after that, the playable characters have good graphics while the characters in the background are very blocky. 8:38 seems to also have the frame rate issue,(someone starts a kick, The Game freezes, and the next frame the person is flying back from said kick) plus I’ve never seen a fighting game with no music LoL.
I owned Kengo. It was alright in my opinion. But as far as Iron and Blood, a couple of kids that lived next to my grandmother when I was little owned that and I only saw them play it once. I've wondered for along time what it was called. Now I know. Thanks!
8:03 damn, they couldn’t even have background music? I thought the sound cut out for a second, so I legit had to check my volume. The opening animation had some tight graphics though. 8:38 The heck was that pitch control going on there?😭
Shaolin A.k.a Lord of fist (japan) isn't well known and is pretty enjoyable. Has a RPG mode aswell which is where I think mortal kombat deception or whichever one has the RPG thing got its idea from
squills1 yo!! i still own that game..kung fu RPG Shemue is the closet thing..what i love is the setting the style growth...wish it was remade ..me and cousin waited for part 2 on ps2 After beating Shaolin with every style..but nada till Def Jam V then Fight for Ny helped but still want other Shaolin game..
I liked the video it was good to see what's out there, but it would have been nice if you put a little history of each game and for what system it was on.
Most of those titles deserve to be forgotten minus Tobal and Iron & Blood, those games were good, known in their days and had very innovative features.
Best Of Best using the Courtyard stage music from Mortal Kombat as its title theme, House Of The Rising Son on the character select theme and was that Hawk from the old Konami brawler Vendetta? Who doesn't get pumped for some fighting when they listen to a lift music version of the Lambada?
6:00 Battle K-Road! Wow! A lost gem! At last I find a "realistic" fight game with no throwing balls garbage or crap like that, so common in SF, for example. Thanks for the tip!
1st time I've seen Battle K-Road. I've found the Korean pcb I guess that's the original Korean arcade version. I'll have to see, because everything else is MAME only.
Tobal No.1 was my shit. Never got to play part 2 since it never released here in the states. Squaresoft was like either we give Americans Tobal No.2 or Final Fantasy VII, they picked wisely for us.
video would have been better with a bit of commentary about each game, or some background to them at least. I mean yeah the title is spot on as I've never heard of most of these outside of Tobal but that's probably because most of them seem like Japanese releases that never made it to the states or at least didn't see a wide enough release to end up at my local game stores at the time.
I had completely forgotten that the Tobal series had art direction by Akira Toriyama. Also OMG... I did not remember how atrocious the voice acting in Iron & Blood was...

I must say.. Iv been playing fighting games for over 20 years.. Been watching Tybee types of videos forever and iv never seen any of these lol good job.. I really expected to know at least 50% of these but nope... Good research
It's was a few miss games from the Sega Saturn system they has a bunch of them that was actually good but wasn't known. Still this was a good list. One was call sonic council it was a good game not very known though.
There was a game when I was a kid, I dont remember the name but it had a fighter who's back story was it was half of each person showed together, half of a women who loves the other half which was an African American man. They where split apart by a massive saw and down together as a playable fighting character, there was also a killer clown and a monitor, who was part monitor and cyborg named monitech, or somthing like that. I was 10 or 12 at the time I played it with my step brothers, who where younger than me and had a Sega and super Nintendo. I have search a while for this game and cant remember it. Could you find it?? Please? I miss my memories and would love to know what it is, thank you
I have played alot of fighting games in my time and the only one I was familiar with on the list was Tobal Haha. If I remembered right wasn't Tobal designed by the folks who did Dragon Ball Z?
With the exception of tobal 1 this list should be called fighting games you never heard that suck what's even worst is that I've played 99 percent of them except the last one
There is one fighting game that escapes me. I saw it at a kmart back in the 90s it looked like an awesome fighter. I remember a chick with energy balls but thats about it and i have seen every fighting video and they dont have it either
I only know Tobal from this list, the rest i really never heard of. I think Pray for Death could also be added in the list, it's a weird Killer Instinct ripoff and obscure.
10:33
"For the Honor!"
Stabs the guy in the ass
For the Order.
Viktor Iskhakov that shit was hilarious! 😂😂
Good stuff -- reminds me of hanging out in the arcade after I spent all of my money, watching all the intros.
Lmao u rite game over
I think a _lot_ of people have heard of Tobal...and most likely bought it for Akira Toriyama's art style :V
OG name, Fuujin Ryoiki Eretzvaju
13:20 I guess I know where the producers sampled the melody from; I hear "Kaoma - Lambada" which is also heard from "Jennifer Lopez - On The Floor"
Thanks. I was going to say they sampled from this game for the J-Lo/Pitbull song, haha.
this lambada crap was pretty popular in brazil during the 80s and early 90s.
Moreover char select screen at 13:01 sounds exactly like House of the rising sun
Tobal was the truth, I still have the import of it, the US copy, and Tobal 2 lol.
Royalfiasco same here lol
Tobal No. 2 was the 'ish!
Kensei: sacred fist, anyone?
ngin room That game was the shit!
I remember buying Kengo from a used game store years ago. After I figured out the gameplay and move sets it became one of my top 5 games, still is to this day.
I've once loved playing an old fighting game called Fighter's Destiny.
Andre Pendleton Rival Schools was the shit...!
A Hulk Hogan clone in a hadoken duel with a Rambo clone on an Aircraft carrier is possibly the most 80's game moment ever...its maximum peak 80's.
I actually played Tobal 2 long ago and I am still looking for it to this day! What a great game it was and so many characters!
I have learned that the polygonal 3d fighting game genre was incredibly oversaturated...
Anyone remember bishido blade? One hit kills, tons of weapons. Both 1&2 should get a reboot
Oh boy...tobal was my first game on psx, it came with a ff7 demo. Good old days *sniff*
Best game you have not listed in here. GAROUDEN: FIST OR TWIST. Criminally underrated fighter
No Weaponlord? No Cardinal Syn?
Vs. Now that's a cool name for a fighting game, right?
I WATCHED THE VIDEO AND I STILL NEVER HEARD OF THESE GAMES LOL
Anyone that hasn't heard of "Vs." the PlayStation game by thq is most likely due to their young age....
I cant seem to find videos of it on RUclips
All Star Fighters looks like some college game design project
Tobal No. 1 and Battle Arena Toshieden were underrated.
If I remember right, I played Kengo 2 under the name "Sword of the Samurai" in EU. It had some cool systems and did a good job of recreating the feel of old samurai movie duels (slowly facing off, gauging what the opponent can do from their stance and changing yours to beat it). I am surprise that I didn't see war gods up here
Go into McDonald like “yeah I’d like to order the McFluzu with a side of fries and a coke please”.
Is it just me, or is that "House of the rising sun" by The animals?
Yep, followed by the lambada.
Sizz XRK House of the rising sun is one of my Mum's favourite songs, so it's cool. 😎
Tobal reminds me of Dragonball!
The character designs were similar to:
Flatop guy = Gotenks/Gohan
Big rooster guy = Bojak
Muscle girl = Kale
Old man = Roshi
Purple lizard guy = Jamemba
Janethan Ricanibante you right cos the same person did do dragonball..the same artist that way characters have the distinctive dragonball look.
"Never heard of"?!

Long story short, I enjoyed that squirt gun :)
Wow. All of them are hidden gems for me.
At 14 min I see Hulk Hogan fighting against Rambo on Street Fighter stage with "Lambada"(80's pop hit)as bgm.
i probably heard about these games but my brain just erased them from my memory in self defense
From the moment i read the title of this video, i said to myself: Kengo.

PS1
Tobal had a lot of buzz about it leading up to release. First fighting game by Square. Never bothered to play it but wasn't exactly an obscure title.
Best of the best has mk3 music from the streets stage and street fighters 2s stage for guile so I guess they used the best from the best
Because the mk3 music was sampled from Best of the Best sadly.
Tobal No.1 is the only game I recognized from back then. It came out back in 1996 around the same time if I'm mistaken Tekken 2 did. Tetsu being a mugen legend made me know his fighting game which is pretty awesome!
Tobal number 1 is my first fighting game for PlayStation
Man you got lucky, mine was that god awful Star Wars fighting game Masters of Teras Kasi.
Tobal is pretty famous in Asia tho
sure....but here in the states I feel like am the only one that knows it exist. heck....I still have my original copy of the game.
Zylo82 You not the only one, I spoke about it a couple days ago on here
chigaderu I love Tobal. I also have an imported copy of Tobal 2. It's amazing, but the quest mode is a little chsllenging if you can't read japanese...
I remember Mia from VS. Impressionable underboob ._.'
Toomnyusernae My main along with the Surfer guy.

You guys should check out cardinal syn
Xanadhor i remember that on psone. Game was actually dope
i think "Power Instinct Matrimelee" is worth mentioning here, unless it had fame that I never knew...
I remember Tobal and Vs used to play them on my ps back in the 90s
I miss playing bushido blade 2 back in 2000 with all my neighborhood friends.
2:30 the graphics in the background are better than on the actual characters. Also I noticed that the game would lag at certain points. Probably because the processing power was so low quality, that the game had trouble quickly outputting fighting moves, so the game slows down.

The Best Friends taught me all about BEST OF BEST!
YO BEST OF BEST HAD ME CRYING!!!! Homegirls stance, attacks! I couldn't 😂
No “McFluzu’s”? I just knew for sure battle arena toshinden would be on here.
Music from "Best of the Best" was used by Mortal Kombat at some point....
TheJurnalyst other way around. They stole the music.
Shaolin A.k.a Lord of fist (japan) isn't well known and is pretty enjoyable. Has a RPG mode aswell which is where I think mortal kombat deception or whichever one has the RPG thing got its idea from

Dark Rift,Bushido Blade,Fighters Destiny,power stone,War Gods,Battle Arena Toshinden,Fighters Destiny ...does anyone remember these
State Boogie I have power stone 2 on dreamcast, a d I had earlier gods for n64
State Boogie Bushido Blade was awesome
Emanuel Buford lol I had them too
Cruelwraith2 games yeah it was a fun game
Damn, the only one I heard of before from this list was Battle K-Road.
Most of those titles deserve to be forgotten minus Tobal and Iron & Blood, those games were good, known in their days and had very innovative features.

2:34 ROUNDO 1...FIGHTOH!
Cried when I seen Tobal No.1 so many memories.
I remember Tobal No.1 costing $200 in Japanese but a good game
6:00 Battle K-Road! Wow! A lost gem! At last I find a "realistic" fight game with no throwing balls garbage or crap like that, so common in SF, for example. Thanks for the tip!
Wow lmao!!! did best of best really have the lambada as background music?! lmaooo omg that's hilarious !!
Fighters' Impact actually looked REALLY good...
most of these I'd only play for the music.
I loved Tobal and I always wanted to play the 2nd one...
They should remaster Tobal no 10.
Great list! Wasn't Kengo supposed to be the successor to Bushido Blade?
This guy's voice sounds like the documentary narrator from the Obama episode of The Boondocks
Could you say what console these games are on , or some sort of info?
Why does "Best of Best" have Mortal Kombat music?
I like it when you give reviews of the game... dat shit be funny af
Ive actually played vs on psone. The soundtrack was dope
video would have been better with a bit of commentary about each game, or some background to them at least. I mean yeah the title is spot on as I've never heard of most of these outside of Tobal but that's probably because most of them seem like Japanese releases that never made it to the states or at least didn't see a wide enough release to end up at my local game stores at the time.
fighters impact looks pretty cool
lil altima riven It really wasn't tbh just my opinion though
Didn't know a single one of them!
I had completely forgotten that the Tobal series had art direction by Akira Toriyama. Also OMG... I did not remember how atrocious the voice acting in Iron & Blood was...
Kengo was one of my favorite games. Too much repetitiveness though.
Logic783 what i like about the game is the chilling atmosphere. no music during fights, just environmental noise. great voice acting. even the special move sound effect is unnerving
Holy shyt i owned Tobal No.1
So nostalgic
Please? I miss my memories and would love to know what it is, thank you

xXEdgy_OutsiderXx playing with a broken arm sucked...but quite a challenge
I have played alot of fighting games in my time and the only one I was familiar with on the list was Tobal Haha. If I remembered right wasn't Tobal designed by the folks who did Dragon Ball Z?
