In my country, Thrill Kill was sold everywhere. I had, at the time, no idea the game was cancelled. I would have loved to see Capcom Fighters All-Stars released, as well as the Justice League game. Killer Instinct 2 on the SNES was another sad cancellation. Thanks for the time and effort to put this together Pete, this was really interesting. I'm surprised Bio Freaks didn't make it to the arcade as if memory serves Midway did push out it's (considerably worse) stablemate WarGods to the arcade. Personally though it would not surprise me if BF had a very small fanbase to bring to bear on playing it in the arcades after it was already out on PS1 as why would you pay money to play a game you had at home, and also the PS1 title is a very Marmite kind of game with an exceedingly steep difficulty curve and brutal AI. I also vaguely remember MK4 didn't fare awfully well either at the time, maybe they were feeling they needed to call time on fighters for a while. It's fascinating they were about to try, as I'm a huge dork for Midway and that's something I never knew was on the cards. Also a shame about Global Kumite, find the GBC and DMG are surprisingly robust systems potentially for fighters, the Takara SNK games especially are really fun games I always come back to. Brilliant vid as always, take care and have a lovely weekend mate!

To this day, I have mixed feelings about Primal Rage 2... one part, my childhood self was disappointed it was never released despite the hype behind it where they even sold actual toys of the then-upcoming characters for this new game that was coming out... and the other part disappointed most of the cast was essentially replaced by human "avatars" which killed a lot of the appeal and identity of it being a "fighting game but with dinosaurs and apes".
There's already enough human vs human fighting games as it is and the appeal of using stop-motion/claymation as fighting game characters was also done with Clayfighter and a few select characters in the old Mortal Kombat games.
I'd not mind if there was a reboot of the original game, a remaster, or a spiritual successor of an indie game using the same idea.

From what I remember for Capcom Fighting All Stars was it fucking bombed so hard in location tests in Japan and that was the primary motivating factor towards it's cancellation. The biggest complaints was the gameplay felt stiff and clunky, again, from what I can remember from translations on SRK and MMCafe forums. I remember so many of these! More than even I thought I would have. Most notably:
    - Thea Realm Fighters unlocked some crazy, long dormant memory haha. I totally remember seeing this in gaming mags during the E3 editions and really being thrown by just how blatant of an MK rip off it looked like in a landscape that already had a sea of them. Ho-Sung Pak didn't even bother changing up many of his fighting poses from when he played Liu Kang haha.
    - Never heard of The Chainsaw Incedent but it looks pretty awesome visually. Reeeally makes me want a new hi-res 2D Darkstalkers even more, but I'm not gonna open up that wound haha.
    - As a Capcom fighting junkie, I was gutted when Capcom Fighting Allstars was canceled.
    - I remember somewhat looking forward to Bio Freaks, but I never ended up playing it. I also remember it being one of the better looking games at the time, which looking back..oof haha.
    - I totally thought that version of FX Fighter had been released at some point, but nobody had an NEC-FX so I had no way of verifying back in the day 😂 I remember being curios how it even worked with the FMV, and well it turns out it didn't.
    - I remember reading a big feature in I think it might have been EGM on Tattoo Assassins, and although I thought the premise was really dumb and it looked silly, I was actually pretty excited for it. Then years later I got my hands on a ROM and played it, and boy was it wonky and glitchy haha. A lot of times you would just do fatalities without entering inputs at the end of the match, and most of the "200+" fatalities (there was a promo that said over 2000, but they most often claimed over 200, and the actual number is still well under 200) were completely random and stupid. The game was hilarious both unintentionally and intentionally though haha. Also the gameplay in this video is way slowed down, the game's pace and flow is actually very similar to MK2.

EA Chicago was such a bad fighting game studio. Some people may have liked their old Knockout Kings/Fight Night games (I always thought they didn't modify the mocap enough, resulting in syrupy animations instead of snappy ones, but whatever), but Def Jam ICON was a disaster and Marvel CHAOS looked.... I mean, how did they not know how to do that type of game? I appreciate you mentioning Power Stone a lot in this video (WAY too many people will look at a game like, say, Kung Fu Chaos or the cancelled WWE Brawl and compare it, bizarrely, to Smash Bros because nowhere near enough respect is put on Power Stone these days), but I think the closer comparison is _ANY ANIME ARENA FIGHTER EVER MADE_ from Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm onward. In fact, with it going for a comic-shading look, utilizing an over-the-shoulder third person camera, and featuring destructible environments, Marvel CHAOS pretty much just had to be My Hero: One's Justice 2 on the PS360.... they just didn't look at any game like that for inspiration. If EA Chicago only looked over at what CyberConnect 2 was doing with Naruto, I'm 100% sure that development on Marvel CHAOS actually would've gone smoothly. 🙂
Though to be fair, that doesn't guarantee the game would've come out, as evidenced by Double Helix's Justice League Arcade there. Man, that one's cancellation really bums me out! That game legit looked great, and would've been an awesome third Justice League title from that console gen to contrast against the likes of MK vs DC and Injustice 1 in terms of providing a different gameplay style and different look for DC's heroes. Out of all of these, I really wish Justice League Arcade and Tenth Degree got released. Oh, and Arika's work on Capcom Fighting All-Stars for, uh, Capcom. Arika needs more respect put on them - hopefully their recently (just, like, a day ago!) debuted Fighting EX Layer sequel will finally get them some of the attention they deserve!
Oh and actually, I think I would've liked to see Radical's AI The Circuit too. But that's just 'cuz I'm weird, lol. They did do Jackie Chan Stuntmaster and James Cameron's Dark Angel game though, and both of those feature great combat (I'm fairly certain Dark Angel just runs on a modified & updated Jackie Chan engine, actually. That's how similar they play and I believe Jessica Alba's character even has some of the animations from Jackie Chan Stuntmaster, lol). If AI Gladiator was another solid melee combat engine from them, it would've been fun, and it looks like it was to me.
Btw, the movie is much more a fairy tale narrative focused on the journey of Haley Joel Osment's robot boy - the game projects seemed VERY loosely connected to that world. Kinda like how some Star Wars games just took a relatively minor piece of lore or world-building, like Pod Racing, and expanded that bit into a whole game? There's a bit in the movie (featuring a really bizarre Chris Rock robot, even. Totally out of place!) that takes place in what's called a "Flesh Fair" where people who are violently anti-robot round up robots to destroy them for their amusement. If the movie is an overt Pinocchio-inspired story, then this is probably the 'Pleasure Island' equivalent. Anyway, I'm pretty sure AI The Circuit was just taking _THAT_ little concept from the movie and expanding it into a general "robots being made to fight for the amusement of the people"-idea, that's all. If you're curious about that scene, or just wanna see the Chris Rock robot, here's a link: ruclips.net/video/ZMbAmqD_tn0/видео.html (Chris Rock here: ruclips.net/video/UoVTah9BSyo/видео.html )
Anyway, great video as always! Great collection of games too - a nice mix of 2D and 3D and genuinely some surprises to see. I'm a huge fight fan and I have never heard of Chainsaw Incident! It looked awesome too.

Missing Force Five, Kenju, The Falling Angels and Konami's Fighting Bujitsu.
I definitely wish Tenth Degree, Capcom Fighting All Stars, and that Justice League game had come out.
The Falling Angels was actually supposed to be finally finished and released a few years ago for modern consoles but nothing ever became of it afaik.

@@budgiecat9039 The Atomiswave ones weren't around when this was written, would've been cool to show Force Five for sure. Fighting Bujutsu wasn't cancelled though was it?

@@onaretrotip You posted this video almost a year ago so absolutely yes the Dreamcast converted Atomisware games were already around by then for at least three years.
I know because I've had most of them downloaded onto my Raspberry Pi 4 for which I had bought in 2020 and installed them in the same year, so they were converted in 2020.
Nonetheless all those games are well over 20 to 25 years old anyway..
Fighting Bujitsu absolutely was cancelled by Konami.
I'm still pissed about that because it looked like it was gonna be a contender against Virtua Fighter and Tekken and competition yields more quality for us gamers. This is why Madden games suck now because there is no competition.
You can still find some rare videos of the game running on some rare arcade Jamma boards some people found and unfortunately even though the game was ripped and uploaded online for emulation, it runs like crap on MAME emulation last I checked.
At least the few but rare actual arcade footage videos run well...hmm
As far as Konami, they ended up making another 3D fighter which was released to the first PlayStation at the end of 1998 it was called Kensei: Sacred Fist, and it's a pretty underrated fighter. It even has a -not- Steven Seagal character in it named Douglas.
Just like how N64's Fighter's Destiny 2 has a -not- Dennis Rodman character named D Dog who wears a pink thong over his tights... 🤢
Btw while Force Five was cancelled, some relatively unknown publisher back in the day bought its assets, redesigned the game giving a completely different roster and named it Jingu Storm and that came out in arcades although very rare.
