Van Houton should not be paroled. She should live out the remainder of her life incarcerated. She has already been granted clemency, her death sentence was commuted to life in prison. I am shocked and disappointed to hear this murderer is now released into society. I am disgusted that it's been said she has now a Master's Degree and a PhD in prison paid for by the taxpayers of California. If you paid for these degrees on your dime, you'd have student loans to repay. And for 'psychological counseling'? Unbelievable. The Manson family members should have suffered the sentence bestowed on them from their convictions. This heinous, depraved crime hits home to me as I was engaged at the time time, and my fiancee's sister had gotten into trouble with a man who sold illegal drugs. She was disowned from her family. The couple were stopped in a car, and he told the sister to hold the drugs as she would not be searched by a male police officer. She stood up from the car, and the drugs fell out of her clothing. That meant that she herself was arrested while her partner went free. We knew nothing of all of this until the sister phoned her father tearfully to say she was terrified in a cell behind bars with Susan Atkins. She begged her father to get her out of jail. I was in the room when the call came, and my fiancee wept at what had happened. It was so horrifying a time that no one would leave the house after sun down, and you couldn't wait for dawn the next day as no one knew where these maniac killers would surface and who would be their next victim. Newsom will be affected politically. He is against the death penalty in California and has stated during his governorship, he will not use it.

First of all, Newsom didnt kill the death penalty, it was over-turned in 1976. All of the Family who were charged received death originally in 1971.
This nephew keeps saying she murdered one of his family but that is not so. Leslie was involved with the deaths only of the LaBiancos. Of all of Charlie's girls, she was educated but went thru some pretty horrible events before meeting him. She ran away with a boyfriend but got pregnant, was forced to abort and bury the fetus in the back yard. That's pretty disgusting...I recall watching the very first interviews on TV maybe 20+yrs ago, she was the only one who did seem to be horrified of what she had done. It doesnt make up for the lives she took by any means but at least she's human and grew a conscious. Susan Atkins sure didnt, nor Patricia Krenwinckle, who BTW was denied for parole. Leslie is not out. She is in a transitional facility...which could deem her not ready for release.

And wasn't she the one whose only complaint was that her hand hurt because the "bones got in the way" and it was hard to stab through them? Or am I thinking of one of the other Cult members?
Either way, this man is correct. It DOES set a dangerous precedent.
Just because she is "an old lady now" doesn't mean she should ever be freed from prison. She willfully took the lives of others and got turned on doing so. A life sentence should BE a life sentence. Especially when the murderer has the nerve to paint *themselves* as the "victim" in any way. That's not accountability.

Oh, this story is so heart-breaking. I became a new young mom around the same time period in 1970. 'Tho at the time, I wasn't following the story, later on when I learned the full import of what had happened with the Manson Family, I was sickened. The Sixties definitely ended in 1969! When I was pregnant, I took a short cut 'thru a dark school-yard one night walking back from a friend's home. A man came out of nowhere and attacked me. As he swung me around, he could see that I was hugely pregnant. I screamed, begging for my life and the life of my unborn baby. Luckily enough, he backed off and ran away. Later on, when I learned what happened to Sharon Tate, it was like a sad echo of my own experience. To this day, I sometimes find myself imagining what it much have been like for this poor woman to beg for the life of her unborn baby. While in Canada, we don't have the death penalty, on the other hand, serial killers are usually handed a life sentence. And life means life, with the exception of Karla Homolka, who lied about her involvement in a series of murders! There's no 'second chances' for: Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, and all the rest of those whose lives were taken away from them by the Manson Family. If you take away someone's life, you don't deserve to ever have your freedom again. As in California, when Lesley Van Houten was able to earn a tax-payer funded degree while in prison, Karla Homolka also earned a Canadian tax-payer funded degree while she was in prison, also. What kind of message does this give would-be offenders? No matter what you do, there is a possibility for you to gain freedom one day. To have the world's do-gooders find you a home, work, and support. Meanwhile, your victims will lie, cold and silent in their graves forever as there's no 'second chances' for them! .

Here’s the kicker - Leslie has repeated the motive Bugliosi trumped up by giving Atkins a narrative once he met with kasabian to offer kasabian immunity as long as Linda testified word for word the Atkins Bugliosi narrative for motive of killings . First night was a drug money burn to steal drugs from Sebring and frykowsi that turned in to murder because Watson was on speed . The second night was a burglary double cross in which the double cross involved killing the couple . A little black book was taken from Leno associated with frank carbo a mafia guy Manson met in prison and fir which Leno owed gambling debts . Leon’s mother was to sack him for embezzling money from family gateway grocery shop on following Monday . I believe it was a set up robbery insurance scam , Manson came in tied them up , left with black book and whatever else lout of the wall safe , left then sent I. Leslie Watson and Katy in to kill them . Leslie harped on the race war hoping to plead insanity . Frykowsi Sebring lrnosnd Rosemary dealt with mda cocaine and worked with mafia guys who either sold to them or got their cut because the mob just won’t let you rake in drug profits without getting most of the money . Manson drove around for hours then made a call around 10 and was told lrn😊 was back from his day of being at a lake with his boat . He usually parked his car hitched to the.boat in his driveway . On this night when they returned he parked out front with his wallet in his car with keys to the car and house in his unlocked car . Leno was expecting Watson / Manson . Rosemary had a coat jacket and dress over her nightgown as if she slipped it on last minute for company . I believe the couple was having a robbery staged didn’t want Leno to be without his wallet and house car keys so he could say they weren’t taken in a robbery when making an insurance claim . What Leno didn’t know was was that Mason knew Frankie carbo a man Leno owed thousands in gambling debts had a black book possibly with names of mafia heads , loan sharks , drug dealers . Carbo I believed ordered the hit . Leno had wmbezzled thousands from his family’s grocery snd his mother knew and was about to gore him Monday . Leno was a poor risks but knew Rosemary had her own huge cash from dealing mda . Manson tied them up making it look to his wife like all they were there for was to rob guns and what cash Rosemary had in her safe . Len😅 had to act ignorant so Rosemarys money would let Leon’s debts off the hook went along with being tied up along with Rosemary . Then Watson came in for double cross and killed Leno and Rosemary .Whether Leslie knew this or not I don’t know but she knew Watson stole. Leslie repeated court race war motive - the mafia an th le and drug links couldn’t be exposed due to the current investigation of crime bosses . Leslie never alluded to more than racecwarvto show remorse . If she changes the story to kill with robbery as motive ads an factor making her release even harder . Stealing milk and cheese didn’t carry the same weight, it was used as evidence of mansons contril over her mind making her seems less a criminal participant . She wanted to go and regretted not going the first night even after finding out a pregnant woman was killed as collateral damage . She was supposed to be or stay at shelia wells house and due to fatigue stayed in . Frykowsi asselling drugs while Sharon was filming in Europe march to July . Roman in Europe March until after the murders . Sharon returned to a drug orgy house due to clunkier frykowsi used Roman’s hospitality living in that house 😮while Sharon B and Roman were away . Leslie couldn’t change and reveal the motive or her life would’ve been in danger or not get parole as changing the testimony is seen as lack of remorse And looking like a liar. She wouldn’t be out today if she had . I believe her life on the outside is precarious - lots of nuts out there that would live to claim they got her . I hope not because out of all of them Leslie was the dumbest and youngest . She grew to be an articulate educated woman who learned to accept her murderous role in killing two people . Stabbing Rosemary even after she died makes no difference - legally she responsible fir both going in that house knowing whoever was in there was going to die . She should’ve never been released .

The same goes for Mrs. La Bianca will she be set free from her grave upon her muderers release from prison? I think not their sentences should be upheld for life only to leave prison in a pine box!!!

I wonder who took her to the Oscar’s in 1978? One things for certain Johnny Depp can finally hang out with her like he tried to all of those years ago. Hollywood will welcome her with open arms.

She was sentenced to death. California got rid of capital punishment and committed her sentence to life. She was eligible for parole after serving seven years. At least there were enough adults in the room to deny her parole - until now.

Her conviction in the capital case was overturned. Upon conviction at her new trial, she was sentenced to 7 and a half to life.

Leslie Van Houten wasn't present on the night Sebring was killed. I don't understand why he should have any say in this at all.
