Jason in the Oil patch I worked with an older gentleman that would have us soak new handles for hammers in brine salt water for about a week then we’d clean it up and pour used hydraulic oil on them and wipe them clean. That was 27 years ago and I still have a shop hammer with the original handle. It’s been well used over the years!
Nice job my friend.. I always use a contrasting wedge, and it’s usually red oak.. also BLO, but the Watco Danish Oil is my favorite I just happen to be out of it now.. carry on
Great job. As another project, why don't you make a draw knife using a good quality old file as the basic metal. A couple of comments regarding the project - I always use a wedge that is of a harder wood than the handle if possible and put a small amount of glue on the wedge so that it doesn't want to come out due to the shock while chopping. The shape/grind on that head seems much "fatter" than the other one that you used, is that intended, or just as you purchased it. I make all my "axe" masks from leather.
Apologize, yt won't let me comment. So.. at 1:00 hey Salyer... it's not Memorial day... it's called LABOR DAY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN BECAUSE EVEN THE CHINESE MILITARY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CROSSING THE BORDER KNOW THE HOLIDAYS. WTF. SOMETHING YOU NEED TO TELL US BEFORE (TOO LATE) YOU ARE ON THE LIST! DAMN IT BOY. LET ME GUESS, U FILMED THIS IN MAY...?. NICE LIE. BUT WE ALL KNOW NOW....😂😂😂 ok... I have went farther in the video. I remember Murphs challenge.. luckily, u pulled it off... for now!

You'd oil the handles with the wood still saturated with salt water? Here where I live salt water just bleaches wood and ages it rapidly.
@@AaronC. yes sir we’d wipe off the excess then soak them with oil. We live in the desert and get the brine from the oil patch it’s #10 brine water.
Nice useful project.
Great Video Jason! Love the workmanship, you don’t give yourself enough credit. Will become a valued family heirloom I’m sure, bravo brother! 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks!
Nice. It might be overkill, but I think you can use wood stain to give the pvc a little more rustic look.
Fantastic work
Thank you! Cheers!
That turned out sweeeet . Can't wait for the next 1
Thanks!
awesome job . Beautiful axe
Thanks!
Footing wood arrows with contrasting colour wood has the same aesthetic effect.
if you don't like the shiny axe-head Jason, you know what to do...
Mustard the Bastard...! lol

Awesome job on the sheath!

I use oil on my diamond stones. Should i be using water instead? 🇨🇦
Will ash wood work for this type of project?

The hatchet comes like that. I think it will be a great kindling splitter.
I make cedar wedges
Nice!
It might split ok but would be terrible for anything else it's way too thick
It is pretty wedge like.
