    The effect we’re seeing in this video, seen as a dark area on the wing in the lower part of the frame, and defined by a sharp, clean line that traverses the width of the wing, is a phenomenon called a “shadow”.

      All I can see is the reflection of the passing flight attendant's dark uniform in the window.

      You can see the shockwave as a really thin line on the leading edge of the wing and just above the shadow. Make sure the video is on high quality or it will be too thin to see

      This is a phenomenon called ``mirroring of clouds higher in the sky reflecting off the wing skin.''

    Those of you who say "shadow" clearly don't know what you're looking for. It's a curved line visible from the shadow line (horizontal) convex and emerging up and to the right towards where the engine cowling intersects the wing. It's like a fuzzy hair on the screen. Difficult to see, but it is there. You can see other videos on youtube of it to know what to look for.

      I know what you mean. It Beginns at something like 00.06 and it is at the place you describe it to be. But isn't that just a mistake in the footage? Just something random made up by the camera through some bad light?

    • @themichaelw
      @themichaelw 3 месяца назад

      @@rmstitanic4068 no, it’s really a shockwave. The plane itself is traveling around 85% the speed of sound, but the air over the top of the wings is even faster because it has a longer distance to travel (you can look up how airfoils work). So the air over top can be transonic and create the waves you see here.

  • @AirbusFanA350

    for people thinking it is not A 747, it is. The aircraft is a rare 747-200. you can tell by the pat connecting the engine to the wind and the short winglet. if you google a 747-200 view out of window, you can see.

    Never mind the shockwave or lack thereof, why is the engine not perpendicular to the wing?

    • @Tovarris
      @Tovarris 3 месяца назад

      The wings are swept backwards in most airliners, so the leading edge of the wing comes out at a backwards angle. Since the engines are positioned to face directly forward into the wind, they are not perpendicular to the wing as the wing isn't perpendicular to the plane.
