Filmed in GoPro "Cinematic Mode," which according to the manual "Captures stunning 4K high-resolution video at 30 fps. This preset uses the Linear Horizon Leveling digital lens to smooth out the fish-eye effect and give your footage a dramatic cinematic feel with a ultra steady horizon." I won't be using Cinematic mode anymore for aerobatics as it makes it hard to judge aircraft attitude. This ...
Extra 300L slipped / three-point landing at Santa Paula (KSZP) runway 22

Slipped / three-point landing at Santa Paula (KSZP) runway 22. Too aggressive initial braking resulted in some gear chatter on roll out. I prefer wheel landings but the tree on approach and shortish (2,665 feet long) length means at my skill level a slipped / three point landing is solution.

Took the Christen Eagle once. Narrow runway
AVX runway is 75' wide.... very comfortable for the Extra.
@@fedorsd yeah, it used to be 35 feet. Sketchy, at least for me.
Yes, nice shock wave, and nice roll, and split S too ! The climb a 9g was pretty cool !
More like a zapwave
its literally just a video of a wing smh
Hey Charles Kaminski.................you're an idiot. A holes like you should take the bus and stay off of airplanes.
That could have been a water wake, did not even notice that in this video though. But they are fascinating.
Sorry, i dont see any shockwave.
Never mind the shockwave or lack thereof, why is the engine not perpendicular to the wing?
The wings are swept backwards in most airliners, so the leading edge of the wing comes out at a backwards angle. Since the engines are positioned to face directly forward into the wind, they are not perpendicular to the wing as the wing isn't perpendicular to the plane.
I missed it. Fives times 😐
This is obviously how you avoid getting many subscribers... ----------- By wasting their time.
for people thinking it is not A 747, it is. The aircraft is a rare 747-200. you can tell by the pat connecting the engine to the wind and the short winglet. if you google a 747-200 view out of window, you can see.
Its a 747-8i, not a 747-200
I really can't see it tbh
747? really?
yes. 747-200. rare catch
So where is the much touted shockwave? All I see is an aircraft in normal stable flight…🤷🏼♂️
It’s like watching paint dry.
I've watched paint dry, something actually happens by then end.
If there was AI commentating it would've at least send shockwaves through the community.
Nice! You got it on a great day! That started out as my favorite run there, Bros Alley, and then you cut over to Wallbanger.
That’s Bros Alley off Chair 1.
I’m actually shocked that the wave never came 🤷🏼♂️
😅
😄😄😄😄
Awesome stuff!
Dave Fedors: Behold Shockwave, in all its Glory ! Me: Pretty lame, Milhouse.
Mcrit baby!
Amazing! How early did you have to get there to get a spot?
i love the part when he shows the shockwave
You mean the reflection of the passing flight attendant's dark uniform in the window ?
Those of you who say "shadow" clearly don't know what you're looking for. It's a curved line visible from the shadow line (horizontal) convex and emerging up and to the right towards where the engine cowling intersects the wing. It's like a fuzzy hair on the screen. Difficult to see, but it is there. You can see other videos on youtube of it to know what to look for.
I know what you mean. It Beginns at something like 00.06 and it is at the place you describe it to be. But isn't that just a mistake in the footage? Just something random made up by the camera through some bad light?
@@rmstitanic4068 no, it’s really a shockwave. The plane itself is traveling around 85% the speed of sound, but the air over the top of the wings is even faster because it has a longer distance to travel (you can look up how airfoils work). So the air over top can be transonic and create the waves you see here.
and what am I looking for ? ? ?
ok that was a waste of 46 seconds
I thought there would be Iron Man passing by.
Great! Do you have more vids like this? Especially 747400
'promosm'
Can't you hold that camera straight WITHOUT turning it upside down¿¿
Woah that must have felt amazing
The effect we’re seeing in this video, seen as a dark area on the wing in the lower part of the frame, and defined by a sharp, clean line that traverses the width of the wing, is a phenomenon called a “shadow”.
All I can see is the reflection of the passing flight attendant's dark uniform in the window.
Wow, do you have a degree in aviation? 🤣
😂😂😂
You can see the shockwave as a really thin line on the leading edge of the wing and just above the shadow. Make sure the video is on high quality or it will be too thin to see
This is a phenomenon called ``mirroring of clouds higher in the sky reflecting off the wing skin.''
My kids watched this 4 times over, gave it away when I had tears in my eyes and laughing my ass off.
"Pretty lame, Milhouse" came into my mind.
Nice shadow watching, time I’ll never get back.
I guess you had to be there?
Stress is a real thing
Wow! The 747 has caught up with its own sound waves and is compressing them to form the boundary region to supersonic flight. This shock wave destroyed the first airplanes that dared to go this fast in the early development of faster airplanes in the 1930s during the "streamlining craze" to make planes go faster. It was Chuck Yeager, who in 1947--who was first to break through that boundary with sustained super sonic flight that did not destroy the aircraft. The compression waves change the refractive index of air that makes the shockwave visible to the eye. Amazing! I have never thought to look for it, but now I will! Awesome!
First of all a plane wouldn’t fly at sonic speed cuz they are clearly not designed for it. Second, The amount of drag generated would decrease the lift of that plane a lot.
Light passing through the wave is diffracted slightly. You're seeing the "shadow" of the wave on the wing surface. The speed of the air over the wing can reach Mach 1 even when the plane itself isn't moving at Mach 1. A typical 747 cruise speed at 35,000' is Mach .86 / 575mph. (Mach 1 at sea level is @ 762 mph. At 35,000' it's @ 679 mph. 40,000' = @ 660 mph). A 747SP would cruise at Mach .88 / 614 mph.
Looks like Chuck Yegar
help, I see nothing ...
Oh please, General Chuck Yeager was an icon - please spell his name correctly!
Here before it blows up
A great observation of an elusive phenomena, filmed--Chuck Yeager's courage and science contributed directly to the 747 design. The B747 from earliest iterations to the final has always had 'hugely' swept wings, for a commercial airliner (37.5 degrees)... This allowed it to maintain the fastest level cruise speed over any other, at 0.85 to 0.86 Mach and higher. However, due to that more extreme sweep, the 747 emerged from the Engineer's desks with aesthetically beautiful, massive, no longer seen, complex, triple-slotted trailing edge flap arrays that increase the low speed lift of the swept wing at approach speeds, by some 90% over the clean state. I salute the Queen of the Skies--a slide-rule, wind-tunnel and hand calculator design that has now scientifically validated its safety and efficacy for more than 50 years! Why must we passengers be forced off the deleted 747 in favour of carbon resin and plastic un-validated aircraft designs that are now showing multiple composite issues in normal operation?
Got something on the window there...
I don't see it...
Brigadier general Charles (Chuck ) Yeager was an Americian flying ace and test pilot,in 1947 he became the first man to break the speed of sound in level flight. He was from West Virginia and there is an airport there named after him,Yeager Airport.
