I bought a house in Federal Way in '98 and it was amazing. Over 20 years, I watched it turn into a cesspool. A year before Covid, I moved to Milton and it's like living in Maybury! Kids can leave their bikes on the lawn, people walking their dog wave as you drive by, a basketball game in the cul-de-sac, no package theifs. It's like stepping in a time machine and going back 40 years.

My beautiful hometown has become an absolute toilet. I grew up in North Seattle it was very barely middle class, nondescript. Now homelessness has reached north end to Edmonds & Everett. 3rd Ave downtown is a known "no go", fingers have been easily pointed at city council, judicial system even & police, but the problems & needs are more complicated than that. I was back in Seattle 2000-2003, it wasn't bad then. Really sad to see what Seattle has become.

The city infrastructure in Seattle is one of the most unique ones I have experienced. The traffic signals are so far to the side in such a way that I initially had a hard time recognizing them. I blew by a few intersections by accident because I didn't recognize the locations of the traffic lights. I normally expect to see traffic signals centrally located at intersections like most cities have them. I'm glad I didn't cause a T-bone accident while driving or get pulled over by a cop blowing by a few red lights while driving through the city....lol. I guess Seattle is just another city with the same problems other big cities have - no real news nor surprises.
Shoreline doesn't allow this... but it goes right up to Shoreline, it's all in North Seattle along Aurora though! Lowes parking lot is the worst!

Shorelines City and Cops are the Worst. They allow everything from my experience.
My dad married a woman who said she wanted to take me in while he was in prison when I was a teenager and she moved me into one of those seedy hotels on Aurora. I ended up running away to live with friends. I feel lucky because she was one of these addict prostitutes and I could have ended up trafficked myself. My mom had been trapped and pimped out (by a different guy from my dad though my dad probably would have done the same if he hadn't been put in prison) who was an extremely violent drug dealer and child molester and she ended up murdered at 28. I am totally against prostitution. People want to legalize it but then all the agencies that investigate trafficking would soon after be defunded. In other countries where it is legal it turns into giant slums where families are pimping out their own little children.
All the guys here being pigs about it. These aren't clean women, these are hardcore addicts who will take any kind of risk to get their drugs. You WILL get an STD.
Those men should also know that I haven't had sex myself in over 8 years because they have made me completely disgusted with and distrustful of men in general.
It would take me about 30 seconds to find a random guy anywhere to have sex with and I would not have to pay for it if I was feeling that self destructive to put up with men. The reason you have to pay for it is because you choose to be so pathetic.

I live out of the area but end up in north Seattle for work a couple times per month. What I see, are Seattle PD sitting around watching all this happen, waiting for 'johns' to pull up so they can arrest them. Meanwhile, there are pimps driving around 24/7 doing their thing, and the Seattle PD doesn't do shit for fuck all about them. I've seen it with my own eyes, I've watched from the drive thru at the Chick-fil-A as a pimp slapped around one of "his bitches" while people drove by like it was normal. I called 911 about it and was told the would look into it. I was in that drive-thru for at least 5 minutes and then ate my chicken nuggets within eyesight of that girl who got beat up and not one damn cop ever showed up.
So all this talk, it's just that. Talk. Lip service, pretend police work. Take the pimps, the dealers, the scumbags, and remove them from the gene pool. And actually help the girls and women who are out there who want it, but understand that many of those women choose to do this, too. Your own Seattle PD has stated just that in front of your city council and got shouted out of the room by the 'woke' politicians of the Emerald City. Embarrassing.

It’s primarily the pimping and coercion the problem, but then a lot of them do it willingly despite claims of “not being able to do anything else” cause it’s more easier and pays better than a fast food drug. I drive down Aurora frequently for work. It's a small section going from just north of the cemetery to a little past 130th, and there are normally something like 5 girls standing around, not 30 (though maybe it's different at night, IDK).
I agree with the idea that this should be legalized and regulated, so there are legal, more private ways for girls to advertise and not every 12 year old going to school has to be exposed to it, but I also see it as a relatively low priority item. I'm far more concerned with the rampant drug use and tweakers on practically every street in Seattle. Why aren't these individuals being taken off the streets under public nuisance laws, and mandated to get clean and go to rehab as a condition of their release?

Unfortunately legalizing prostitution actually increases the amount of trafficking. When it's not a crime for the girls to be prostitutes then the police do not have a reason to question them, so they never find out if they've been forced into prostitution, which makes it all the easier for pimps to get away with forcing women against their will.
Look what legalized drug usage has gotten us. There are no police to enforce what few laws we have left. Legalizing prostitution doesn’t mean illegal, bootleg prostitution will miraculously disappear. What police you think is going to check?

Leaders would do well getting a few books on The Temperance movement. Platform Echoes by Gough and 50 Great Cartoons by Frank Beard are two of the best. I consider them both great works but the Platform Echoes really shows the great heart of people from back then towards the poor and addicted. Imagine if all the people today who were dying of drug overdoses, homelessness from addiction and mental illness, had a band of people who cared about them who would do anything for them. That's pretty much what the temperance movement was. Prostitutes used to be frequently rehabilitated. Miracles from the Slums talks about that. You can get all these books free in pdf format.

Right. I grew up in an area like this, but I’m not out here popping p or making excuses for bad behavior. That being said. I understand why people turn to prostitution, but I’d never be ok with it.
We all make choices and mistakes. Sometimes we need a hand up to get out of the predicaments we put ourselves in. A little compassion goes a long way. They may have made the initial choice to do it, but pimps are brutal and manipulative. I think it's easy to say what you're saying from the outside looking in.
