There you have it! A NO risk investment with guaranteed returns. The owners can go back to Redmond or Kirkland, wherever they’re from, and collect the rental income, without a care in the world. I don’t feel bad for the money hungry investors or the criminals running the streets in Tacoma. They’re one in the same imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Armory XDM I used to live on the east side of Tacoma, right near the Hosmer mess. When I moved to that area, about 6 years ago, the run-down complex I moved into was in the process of being renovated. Half of the apartment units were “updated”, and the other half were not yet renovated, and still occupied by the old tenants. My apartment was $1425/month. The old tenants were still paying around $750/month. All of the old tenants were on section 8. They were renovating one unit at a time, and moving old tenants into the renovated units, as units were finished and available. Management was off-site, at another complex right on 84th near Hosmer. SEVERAL run-down complexes were being bought and renovated by the Neiders company, in that area. All section 8 accommodating, as far as I know. The unit rent was based on “current market rental rates”, for that area. There were shootings, drug dealing, theft, human trafficking and other BS going on constantly, on the property. Again, no on-site management. It was a very scary situation to be living there with my 14 year old daughter.
The point of my comment was that companies, like the Neiders, were buying up the ghetto properties, doubling the rent in that area, and CONTROLLING the market for that area. All while lining their pockets with section 8 money from the government. Making NO improvements, or even trying, regarding the crime going on there. Easy $, no responsibility. Sickening 🤮
If you ask me why I moved to that area, I would say it was the only place available and affordable, for me, that I could find at that time. I was new to Tacoma and had no idea what I was signing up for. I was stuck there for 4 years. Rent was skyrocketing, and I had no way out.
The situation on Hosmer has gotten worse over the years, and I recall that the motel mentioned in this video was purchased by investors, to turn it into Affordable housing. I would bet it’s intended for section 8 housing.

As a lifelong tacoma resident...........::shrugs:: what's the news here? Hosmer been a sketch hood for my entire adult life. What really caused a full scale meltdown and blew my mind is how the one solution they outlined to improve the area suggested eliminating some of the cheap inexpensive budget motels where violence occurs......🤦🏽‍♂️
If u drive the entire length of Hosmer street today, you start at 72nd street. Travel down a bit around 78th street where across from jack in the box u see a line tents of a homeless community that stretches a few blocks along the freeway fence line. Get to 82nd the tent community turns into the motel community that the story attributes the crime to. Go a few blocks further and the motel community turns into southpointe apts, about the most inexpensive place your gonna find in tacoma.....
And you think getting rid of some of the cheapest spots to put shelter over your head is going to...magically end the crime and homelessness and drug use plaguing the area......? Because that's going to make desperate people willing to commit crimes......less likely to resort to violence or criminal activity, because they either are now on the street or have to find a more expensive temporary housing solution when they are already struggling financially and lack housing security in a city that 2 years ago saw the fastest rising rental costs in the entire country....... Yah that's totally gonna male someone less likely to commit armed robbery... our streets will definately see a new renaissance of revitalized businesses and wholesome family friendly communities......riiiiiiight...
At best, this will disperse the criminals into surrounding neighborhoods, undoubtedly some of them into my own. And I guess that's fair that the entire city should bear some of the burden of displacing criminals from a concentrated area to a broader one. But not really fair at all cuz rent is so unbelievably high across the city that those crooks will go towards the next cheapest area (where I happen to live) and not the cozy affluent suburbs or newer culdesac developments.
I think one solution that should be put on the table, make people like that poor upset and sad property manager lady that expressed how distressed she was over the crime occurring at a motel shes responsible for....actually responsible for being slumlords that are allowing their properties to be used to facilitate criminal enterprise. It's one thing to operate a buisness that crime occurs at. But at some point after being aware of ongoing issues your inaction or failure to make improvements will have to have some repercussions. Warnings and citations might get the message across, but after you add penalties/fines/taxes the message will be loud and clear, and if the threat of criminal charges isnt enough, then perhaps the risk of the property being seized or buisness licences revoked should make the message impossible to ignore or neglect.
That's a somewhat less terrible solution (yet still insufficient requiring many more approaches) to a longstanding problem that's been growing the past 20-30 years. ( i realize this is fox news, but cant nobody blame Biden or woke politicians for the Hosmer street shitshow, it takes decades of neglect and failure for communities reach Hosmer street levels)

@@henrykrinkle268 Lol. Why? Because of the imaginary Jesus who never comes down to solve a problem? This is a far more practical option than the senseless, expensive and ineffective war on drugs. More people are on drugs today than in 1971. They can't even keep the drugs out of the jails. 😂 Prostitution laws are oppressive, removes personal freedoms and autonomy of our bodies. For what? Doing a biological function that everyone does? Government is alright with a woman working double shifts, 7 days a week for $2.80 an hour at Denny's. It's also ok for her to go home and have sex with her new boyfriend she just met last week from plenty of fish for free. It's ALSO ok for that new guy to give her his entire paycheck to help her out with rent and utilities. But she can't have sex for money or a man can't pay for sex?
Stop with the bullshit and stop trying to control other people's lives with your silly unfounded morality. I personally don't like to gamble. I find it unproductive and costly. But that's none of my business. The government sells lotto tickets all day in every state in America. It literally is a racket to remove money from people's pockets. I was told a few years ago, that there are over 400 casinos throughout America. But a house with 10 guys playing poker should be raided and arrested? GTFOH with that shit. They should be out stopping or solving REAL crimes. The government and people who support this draconian conduct are thugs and busy body hypocrites. And the poor success rates of your endeavors proves my point even more.
