Alex Horley and Riccardo Federici are two of the best successors of Frank Frazetta - just incredible painted artwork. I liked the female warrior in the Conan book and the artwork's uncanny resemblance to John Buscema. Ernie Chan and Cary Nord are also excellent Conan artists.
That sounds really cool...I'll have to look into more Horely and Federici. This issue's cover looked great...but I was a little surprised by how literal the homage was...but totally acknowledged by the artist.
I understand that the next issue of Savage Sword will have Cary Nord art. Unfortunately Chan is no longer with us.
A good to excellent reading week. Now that's a rare week for you! Glad it happened:)
Maybe I'm slowly getting less picky as I return to the weekly pull...or maybe I'm just back to refining my pick ups better.
It brought me great joy that you brought Man O War into the discussion!
Lol. I enjoy Man O War for what they are...but I don't think of them quite the way they seem to want me to.
@@sleepyreader666 Definitely, they may be the worlds least self aware band, ha ha
I appreciate that 90s Lobo is basically unpublishable by today’s standards, but this version of him is a eunuch by comparison. I’d love to see Matt Fraction or Chip Zdarsky write him. Anyway - enjoyed the video, as always! Glad you’re back doing weekly reviews!
Thanks LA. I'm very glad to be back to weekly comics videos...helps me enjoy my reading much more.
Wow, hard to imagine what Matt Fraction would do with Lobo! But a very intriguing idea. As far as I know Fraction's last DC work was his mini-series about Jimmy Olsen. That was definitely fun.
No “Bat-Wang” but kosher approved? Mazel tov! Crime books, Creature, Cthulhu & CONAN. What a time to be alive! Have a great week Damian! 👍
Lots of pulpy goodness filling my days.
thx!
Thanks for stopping by Darrell!
Awesome reviews. I’ve also been enjoying Conan fun read every month.
Conan has become my most reliable comic book read this past 12 months. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Much appreciated.
Great episode Damian. The colors on Conan have been so good and really immerse you in the world. Jim Zub has been doing great writing. I felt like I was reading a Conan tale from the 1970's. Each issue is just so good. Great discussions on your books buddy. 😊😊👊👊🙏🙏
I feel the same way Gary. It seems a new golden age of Conan comics...hopeful it continues that way for a long time. The more they let Zub work on Conan the better, it seems.
@@sleepyreader666 I agree. 😊😊
Always cool to hear your comic thoughts mate
Thanks Grey!
Damn! Don't tell John Stout no bat wang! 😅😅nice haul!
John will just have to be happy with his own massive Wang.
Glad to get your reviews, they help me talk to customers while working at the comic shop lol.
Cool!
Oh wait, it's you Donald! I forgot that you work at a shop!!! Hope it's going well.
That does it!I'm not reading book 3. No bat wang!! Hey Manowar are great 😅 great stuff Damian. Awsome reviews
Higgy the Fan O War!!! (they ARE real men, playing real metal and playing with real swords - they should be watching every Higgypop episode if they know what's good for them)
The face to face with the giat Octopus is such great imagery. I liked White Boat despite Snyder. :-)
Heh. Poor Scott! It’s funny how I now think of him as a clunky writer…I think I didn’t notice that in the early years of his rise to prominence. I’d love to see Frankavilla work with Ram V or Maxwell Prince…
About 3/4 of the way through his Batman run is when I couldn't ignore some of his stuff. He isn't terrible, he just isn't a reason I would ever pick up a book these days. And, yes, those would be great collaborations for FF!
Always enjoy your thoughts! I'm very keen to check out White Boat and Somna from DSTLRY when they're collected (I think Somna just was!) and have been meaning to pick up the first Zub Conan paperback. It's only 4 issues though, and I suspect Titan will be putting out a larger format soon so may hold off.
Yeah, 4 issues is a bit slender for a trade. I'm hoping they put out an oversized hardback with 12 issues or the like...then I'd double dip...
I'll have to keep an eye out for Somna.
thanks for the cool comments.
Thank you for the shout out! Great reviews. I'm enjoying Rook so far. I was interested in White Boat, but the oversized format keeps me away. Interested to hear your thoughts on Ultimate Spidey.
I buy a good deal of Magazine sized short boxes to deal with the varying sizes of comics (also I love collecting the 70s Marvel black and white mags, so the mag size boxes were already a must have.)
I'm looking forward to reading the Doctor and watching more of your vids. Cheers Brian.
Nice pickups and reviews, Damian! I'm missing some great books so far. Enjoy the rest of your week buddy!👍✌️
Hey hey Sean. Have a great weekend with the family and hopefully find time to read some comics!!!
@sleepyreader666 Since I'm only getting one book a month, I've been catching up on my back issues.😃 Enjoy your week and weekend buddy!👍✌️
My best guess, and it is a guess, not knowing, is that people are choosing a guaranteed page rate and partial ownership over complete ownership and possibly little or no earnings (re: your question about more creators moving to Darkhorse).
That makes a lot of sense...and perhaps the returns on the average Image comic are less stable lately....
I think that’s been the case for a while
Interesting haul!
Thanks for stopping by Ed
My Bad looks funny I had to skip First Knight because my third issue is still on route to Finland. Great video!
Hopefully you'll get your First Knight soon! If you can find My Bad in trades for not too much, they would be a very funny read. Cheers Tomi!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
😎😎😎😎
I think the term you’re looking for is “denouement”
Merci Beaucoup!
I thought Brad Anderson’s colors on Fabok for Three Jokers was pretty bad too
That whole series was a disappointment for me...at this point I can't remember if I felt the same way about the color. But I think Fabok might be better served by a different colorist.
Your people demand a new video.
My people have not been very vocal…but i made a new video today.
I loved the beginning!!! I like the outdoor setting - you look relaxed 😎. I want to call you a Color Wuedn but that just sounds racist and rude, lol. It would fly in the gay community though (take that as you will!). I want to see My Bad’s back cover - looked wraparound - you teased me! No Bat-Wang??? I’m out!!! The dénouement (was that the term you wanted)? However, was there a wang on the first page of Sam and Twitch? Thanks for showing the original Kull cover - that was a cool comparison. When you do your comic art books, I’ll get FOMO fever!!!
Color Wuedn? I don't know that phrase? I seem to be a comic color snob! I just can't seem to help myself.
Maybe it's denouement...I've never been quite sure what that means!
There were some wangs on dismembered corpses in Sam and Twitch...not an ideal setting , I assume.
FOMO should be your middle name, heh heh. :)
@@sleepyreader666 lol. How did Queen become wuedn???? My fingers are getting fat….
@@garagegeek4863 lol
I’m hearing you reference coloring a lot. What makes the coloring successful or not for you?
I guess I haven’t done a good job of explaining myself on color. Color has to add to the picture not subtract or distract. Lately a lot of color seems way too dark to me and hides away details that make the storytelling more clear. And then of course there’s just personal taste of colors that appeal or color arrangements that appeal. I also fine there’s some kind of hazy coloring style that confuses me visually. To me the art is part of the story so color can aid that or seriously detract from that.
I would be reading World's Finest if Mark Waid wasn't writing it. He is a good writer, but an extremely unlikeable person. Dan Mora is an amazing artist.
Dan Mora is so good. I have not had any interactions with Waid personally...may be that's for the best (?) but I have loved some of his work and other parts of his work has done nothing for me.
