Frank Tieri did a medieval horror series at Aftershock called 'Pestilence'. It's a "black ops" team working for the Church to put down a zombie plague. I enjoyed it. FT will probably write a decent Conan story.
That's good to hear...i guess I've only experienced a bit of Tieri's big 2 work that didn't really gel. Cary Nord will be a good artist for him to work with. Much thanks for all the info.

Mad Cave is owned by a rich dude who loves comics. At least that’s what we figured out on our Friday night show as we dug into where their money came from. Savage Sword #1 wasn’t good enough for me to order #2. I figured I’d look through a shelf copy. Then my LCS got no shelf copies so I missed out on it. Bear Pirate is three issues I was told on my video.
I guess he’s one of those guys who wants a small fortune 🥸

Bear Pirate was a little to chaotic in its art for me from time to time. I was lost in the story when it got too scratchy. A lot of it was super breath taking. Not sure if I will grab the second issue until I can flip through it. The paper was super high quality. Space Ghost was what I wanted it to be since I read the retelling before. Glad for what Pepose changed in the story. I'll continue for sure on SG.
I didn't realize that this was a retelling of a pre existing origin story. Good to know Mike.
On Bear Pirate, I think there were a bunch of panels that did not parce logically, body parts and background flowing into each other in confusing ways. I kind of gave up making it all make sense visually.

I'm waiting on a mail order that has the Flash Gordon and Space Ghost books (along with the Jonny Quest FCBD book). I figured they'd be updated takes, so I'm a little worried, but I'll give them a try.
I'm a little more excited for the Flash Gordon...there was a lot of energy there ... Space Ghost seems fine but less immediate excitement for me...

This week's comics were just all barbarians all the time! Great choices, loved BPVQ and Conan. Was trepidatious about Space Ghost since it comes with a lot of pre conceived notions.
Barbarians and space heroes! You are right about Space Ghost - it was such a visually stylish show...though as an adult I find the stories so awkward it's hard to sit through an episode.
I've thought about picking up Space ghost. Lester sounds hilarious. 😆i need to pick up Conan. I missed out getting more free comic book day books.
I probably missed a bunch of good free comic day comics too...but they still had some at "hell" so I have a few more now.

CONAN just kills month after month. The only book I don’t need to “inspect” before purchasing. I have such high hopes for Space Ghost, hope they pull it off. Have a great week Damian!

I am not expecting to be blown away by future issues of Space Ghost, just entertained, after reading the first issue. I now have higher hopes for Flash Gordon.
I'm with you on the artist being the "co-writer". It's really all of them as one "creative team". It's odd to me that the letterer is often left off the cover, because they give voice to the characters, and often have a real impact on that voice.
That's a good point. There are a few comics who include the letterer on the cover, and that is good when they do. I think it was only recently that they started including colorists on just about all comics.

Cat Snatch Fever!!! I need Bear / I am missing out on these magazine sized comics. Oh - it is regular but it seems big. I ordered Space Ghost, I think! I’m missing out on Savage Sword!!!! Love the plant placement! Very cool. Flash Gordon art looks really nice - it’s reminding me of the artist from Excalibur (whose name I’m forgetting).
Through a twist of fate, I have a spare Savage Sword i can send you.
The cat really feels she must walk across the keyboard of my laptop, if I am recording. Pets these days have no manners!

I like the art in Bear Pirate, but the story sounded like fluff. Big Conan fan too. They've been doing a great job.
Bear Pirate may well be art first and then a writer attempting to make sense of it! Just a guess

A friend of mine shared the covers for the three issues of Bear...and some pages drom issue 1 and i was very intrigued! But the story seems a bit hard to follow, you seem to imply? 😅
If it’s just three issues, I can hang in therewith Bear Pirate! It was a large effort for me to follow as much as I did…many individual images , though highly creative, were difficult to parse in terms of story. But then i am not the best person for art comics…i always come in expecting easily absorbed panel to panel storytelling.

@@sleepyreader666 Reader, yes. I don't collect Conan. I have Red Eyes reprint and Tower of the Elephant in magazine size. King Conan issues I have a few because of Kaluta covers.
