    EPISODE 2
Grossinger's Catskill Resort Hotel was a resort in the Catskill Mountains in the Town of Liberty, near the village of Liberty, New York. One of the largest Borscht Belt resorts, it was a kosher establishment that catered primarily to Jewish clients from New York City. After decades of activity and notable guests, it closed in 1986. The resort buildings were demolished in 2018.
Our love story with Grossinger’s began in the spring of 2017. We grew to love the resort and the history behind its grandeur. We ventured respectfully into its halls and closed our eyes to picture how it must have been. Along the way, we discovered the story of Jennie Grossinger and her amazing life! We wrote a story about our adventures there and about how we felt about Jennie…below is a piece of our writing and our desire to honor the Grossinger legacy….
Haunting echoes from the original owner and matriarch Jennie Grossinger's house cried out to us as we scanned the dirt where her cozy house stood. How would she feel to see her dreams…remnants of her extraordinary life being bulldozed into asbestos saturated dust? We scanned the perimeter for a place to respectfully enter her abode. We were eager to see what was left. Eager to pay our last respects to this hallowed ground. Our eyes met as we turned to the mountain of rubble just beyond the gateway. Shards of glass, jagged stacks of cement, and the ominous smell of less than healthy dust particles greeted us with their intriguing embrace as we made out way toward ground zero. The blue sky shimmered above as haunting images of detonation filled our minds. What a sight it must have been to see the grand building’s demise. What once stood so proud and tall, had fallen into desolation and in return had broken the hearts of at least two explorers that held her forsaken structures with great affection and regard. Our collective sigh echoed in the abyss of debris as we turned the camera on ourselves. Our usual playful and lighthearted introduction felt shadowed by a sense of loss and regret. How can you seize the day, when the stroke of midnight intrudes? But even in the shadow of despair comes the opportunity to shine. We quickly turned our attention past the ruins to the treasures beyond. It was a chance to seize the day without regret and to deliver a message of adventure without delay. The day went by all too quickly as we found ourselves immersed in its abandoned brilliance. Although a few of our favorite places had fallen, many remained. And although awaiting certain death at the hands of bulldozers and a hearty stock of TNT, stood still in time, echoing haunting voices from the past as it intertwined two adventurers into its history, creating a firestorm of memories that could never be extinguished.
For the next few weeks, we will continue to honor Jennie Grossinger and the grand resort she had created with a series of vintage videos from the 40s, 50’s and 60s. A gift from close friends of ours that we treasure and wanted so much to share with the community who loved and still loves this place as much as we do.
We look forward to hearing from you all and in particular, hope to hear from those who were so lucky to have spent time within the walls of this, our favorite resort on earth. Our hearts ache to know that it is gone, but we feel blessed to be able to bring memories alive!! Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday season!!

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What may seem an eyesore to one person, just might be a beautiful masterpiece to another. There are places beloved by communities and protected in the hearts of those that hold their memories of its tattered hallways and decayed rooms dear. This is the way that we feel when we explore places that have been forgotten by time. Left to rot and decay and only holding the silent whispers of what once was. We know that there are people out there with malicious intent toward these places that we venture into. It saddens us when we see the filth and destruction they leave behind, but we want to make something very clear… We are explorers and lovers of history. We in no way, shape or form condone the criminal activities that take place in the historical decaying places that we document. Social media has brought many of these places to the limelight, but the intention is to show the beauty and mystery of abandonment. Not to invite trouble. Trouble will find its way on its own and to say that the peaceful documentation of these places leads to criminal activity, is mind blowing. We have met so many amazing fellow explorers in our travels and are so thankful and humbled by the positive responses we have received. We know that this type of exploration is not for everyone…many people don’t understand why we find such beauty in decay, we can only explain it as a beautiful journey into the past. We invite you to watch our explores and come along as we visit these amazing places. As for the criminal activity that occurs, those individuals are responsible for their own actions. It is a terrible part of our society, but reality, nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for loving this location just as much as we do. We hope that through this video, the memories held within will remain.

J&M Explorations,, how astutely and beautifully expressed. I share with you a deep abiding love and respect for the worn and weary (yet still beautiful) structures of the past.. Buildings are to me, organic living things. Their once beloved rooms & hallways contain forever the echoes of laughter, music, joys and sorrows of those who once filled and lived in them. They may look dry, dead and overgrown after years of vacancy and lack of care but within their walls thousands of precious living memories remain. These buildings brought magic to so many lives,, thank you very much for remembering and honoring them as they so deserve.

May I just have one weekend at the grossingers in the 50’s and just tell all those people that they were so lucky to be there. I went to hotels up there in 70’s and 80’s near it end. Still great memories but this video just makes me want to cry. Those were the greatest times for sure. Wish I was there 😪

Things worked out back then without the constant fear that most anything in business can result in a lawsuit because the fries are cold or coffee too hot.

Even though I was yet to be born, this brought tears to my eyes. They are the times of life we'll never ever see again. I know my parents were a part of it... even if it was just once. It was a good time to be alive. I had the honor to play the golf course (the Big G) in 2015 before it closed down a few years later, but how sweet it would have been in its heyday. Thanks for posting this for today's generation. We will never know how enjoyable life was in this part of the world during its time.

We have never had the pleasure of visiting Grossinger's during it's heyday but it still holds a special place in our hearts. We did have the opportunity to walk around the abandoned facility and it was kinda sad to see what was left of what Jennie Grossinger had built! We could close our eyes and hear the joy of the guests enjoying their time there. We did a two part video of our explore there in a special farewell to an icon. Wow, this is fricken amazing!!! Seeing all the abandoned videos of resorts up here, I often wonder why all these resorts failed..... I would think that nyc dwellers would want to still have a week away to ski or summer. But I kind of get it now, so much of what these resorts offered in the 50’s thru 70’s would just have no interest today..... its such a shame, honestly! You’d have to have a huge water park resort (both indoor and outdoor), golfing, skiing, games\amusement park, etc. I’m thinking of what is all available in Wisconsin dells, and it’d have to be things like that. But wow, what a beautiful moment in time when life was so simple. GREAT upload, thank you!

you said it perfectly. Jennifer and I have explored some amazing places around this great country of ours but none of them would make an impact on us like the day we stepped foot on the Grossinger's Resort. It honestly felt like we were walking on hallowed ground and judging by all the wonderful comments and responses to our videos from there, I would say that it was an amazing place to visit when it was open. It would have been an honor to meet Jennie Grossinger. She was such a wonderful woman. Thankfully, we did get to see it before it's demolition. As we walked around the property we could feel the energy of all the guests enjoying the pools and having dinner in the dining room. We could see Jennie walking around the property saying hello to all her guests. As you can see, we always try to imagine what it must have been like in it's heyday. We are so grateful that we have our own memories from Grossinger's even if it was in it's decaying days! Thank you for watching and commenting!
