The sung struck a chord in my heart. Especially considering that from the looks of it, Charlie's quest for happiness and rainbows, ironically have become her own personal punishment in Hell by being denied it at every turn... A "self-inflicted" hellish punishment to add on top of that...
This story is told from the perspective of the denizens of hell.....demons both hate and fear angels...or anything holy, so of course they will see them as more evil and sinister than themselves. I also think the angels that commit the annual purge are fallen and actually live down there somewhere hidden away until the next purge. The real angels are actually the ones we see in the opening song encircling hell....they maintain the seal on hell and ensure that if it was ever broken that the demons wouldn’t just be able to leave....they’d have to go threw an army of angels first.

Ah, found the lyrics. Did a little searching curious of what the lyrics could be and found out that this song already existed back in the 1900s (published 1917). "I'm always chasing rainbows." Original was introduced in the Broadway musical "Oh, Look!". Judy Garland even sang it in 1941 film "Ziegfield Girl". One of my favorite parts of the pilot was the intro, it was so beautiful and amazingly singed by Elise who provides the singing voice of Charlie, so much emotion to it that it is just so amazing.

I commented my own theory about the relationship between Charlie and Lucifer earlier I'm just to lazy to type it over again so here lol: I realized something at the beginning, everyone draws fan art depicting that Lucifer is such a good parent but realistically he really isn't. I love this intro it gives an eerie vibe and i love how menacing it feels and then we get to see the aftermath of the exterminations with debri and corpses everywhere and once charlie signals that the extermination is over everyone is just used to it showing how the camera man of the vees just shoves the corpse off his railing to have a smokr,carmilla opening up her curtain looking at the sky,the vees just chiling with valentino texting angel dust and how Carmilla daughers collecting weaponary left behind as Rosie marks off a name off her sign,the rest of hell residents collecting corpses or just going back to there normal life and then there Charlie who is absolutely devastated as she looks at the clock in anger judging by her eyes shifting as the camera slowly rises up showing that the clock went from 0 days to 365 days and it shows the title card showing it world with no dialogue with just Charlie singing sadly and i like how her lyrics match up with the most of the episodes if intentional or not.
About the bloodstained angels, Lucifer probably made and hid them in heaven, like when he was gearing up his angels for his rebellion, to serve as his wolves in sheep’s clothing, with a sticky note on them saying “Use when Hell is overpopulated.” And yet God realized the purpose of those angels, to kill the good and bad alike in sight, like they’re robots programmed for mindless slaughter, being something completely and utterly against God’s wishes.
"Why have I always been a failure? What can reason be? I wonder if the world's to blame? I wonder if it could be me?" Damn, I felt that hard... My favorite part of the song! Elsie Lovelock(Charlie's singing VA) did a good job putting raw emotions in this intro, I was hook immediately from the start.
It goes from a sub minor to a sub major, it's a very basic key change. But it is still in my opinion one of the most beautiful, when executed correctly
this spoke depths to me, when i was trying to connect with someone that wasn't for me, later i realized stay with the people that make you feel alive with happiness
Lucifer was so clingy, he literally drained the relationship between him and his daughter to where she questions what life is anymore. For so many years, Charlie had to endure the slaughter of these souls while Lucifer always told her that it was “natural” and that they “shouldn’t intervene.” But here Charlotte is, not holding back anymore. She thinks she found her destiny, her goal in life that doesn’t include being the little plaything of her parents. She’s becoming more and more distant and Lucifer doesn’t want that. He likes having her naive, otherwise everything he worked so hard to build, would perish. This is because they have polar opposite motivations. Lucifer wants to bring the fall of man, while Charlie wants to redeem all the human sinners in Hell that are willing to change. She would be undoing all of his progress if her hotel was a success and that’s why he talks her down. He doesn’t want that. He deliberately tries to make the situation seem hopeless for everyone around him. It’s likely he knows redemption is possible but is desperately trying to hide any evidence that shows it so this doesn’t happen.
The animation is amazing!! Charlie is amazingly portrayed! Her style and hair resemble a Disney Princess. In fact, the creator said it’s like “a Disney Princess that was born in hell/Disney Princess that is in hell” that’s her kind of portrayal. Anyway she’s a great character!! She should be in heaven. Or on Earth, she’d make a lot of friends! 😊 Also her hair is amazing! I like her goth chic kind of style 🖤🖤
someone asked why she keeps singing about rainbows in the comments and i constructed and entire paragraph with symbolism, metaphors and everything explaining the rainbow talk it was too beautiful and took too long not to repost it by itself so more people will actually see it. so here you go: based on the visuals and lyrics for the song in the pilot it can be interpreted as "at the end of the rainbow there is happiness" (aka literal possibility of rays of sun fracturing into rainbows that slip down from heaven through the clouds. or a more metaphorical meaning: realistically there's nothing at the end of a rainbow. Rainbows Irl/on earth have technically no end. Therefore, this line insinuates that she's looking for happiness; possibly happiness that doesn't exist or looking for a kind of happiness that's an illusion/ the illusion of happiness.)
later in the song she sings "im always chasing rainbows" meaning Shes chasing happiness as she earlier-ly stated at the end of the rainbow is happiness or metaphorically rainbows tend to represent fun and happiness insinuating that Shes chasing those ideals. in conclusion the reason she sings so much about rainbows is because they represent heaven and happiness; both of which her life 'lacks' ,at least when she sings this song, and she's been told 'ideal' stories about both heaven and happiness, which led her to 'wish' on/for rainbows because she doesn't have that. its actually really said in my opinion; she didn't get time on earth because she's hell born therefore even though Shes (objectively) a good person she's still 'doomed' to hell and to 'suffering' forever even though she really didn't do anything to deserve to be there, she was punished for her parents' sins. and no matter how hard she tries to make things better; nothing ever seems to work because she has to 'live' up to the standards of literal angels. which presents as perfectionism and overwhelming optimism because of psychological issues like pressure of being the princess of hell for example.
The way the first four lines are sung is just mesmerizing. It clutches my heart. With the grey imagery it makes me feel melancholic but in a good way hinting on all the gloomy and merciless stuff we are probably going to see in the later episodes. This song is a fitting start to the series
I love Hazbin Hotel and Poor Charlie and I can see a Happier reprise version of I'm Always Chasing Rainbows as the Hazbin Hotel Series Finale with Charlie Vaggie and their friends now living on Earth after saving Hell Heaven and Earth from Roo and Lute and it would be a All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 and Little Nicky style ending.
Since we don't know much about Lucifer (Charlie's dad aka the King of hell) pause at 1:35 In the wayyyy back you can see a man sitting down in a chair holding a cain that looks like there's an apple on it (reference to adam and eve) In the wiki it shows Lucifer holding a cain that looks exactly like the one here. So possible a teaser for Lucifer?
This started playing in a local store nearby and it was nice. but then I got exaggeratedly anxious. Her singing got on my spine and I showed my war face lol.
The Backgrounds remind me of Zeurel's "Escape from Nevera" you know, with the balcony, the dark alleyways, and the clocktower. Oh and Black Ace slaughtering hooded figures.
I wonder if we'll ever see Spoiler, Black Ace, Rip, & Belleth in the Hazbin Hotel. Think about it, Spoiler has a disembodied soul who is forced to share his mechanical body with his alter ego Black Ace. He also made a promise to his(supposed) girlfriend named Mona.
Now that you mentioned “Escape from Nevera”, ffffffffffffffffffUCKING HELL I MISS THAT SHOW SO MUCH!! I hope Unknown Person comes back from whatever happened to him so he can finish the story, to free Spoiler from Black Ace forever! HE SUFFERED MORE THAN ENOUGH, AND SO DID HIS BUDDY SWORD, THE GIRL HE WAS WITH BEFORE THE EXPERIMENT, AND EVEN THE TEENAGER TRYING TO REUNITE WITH HIS LITTLE BROTHER!!
Here are a few things i noticed while watching this. First off you can see what i assume is lucifer/an angel falling from heaven at 0:07. Second, i believe that the art of the characters when the camera pans down may foreshadow a few possible future events in the show. First, you can see several familiar faces here, from what i can tell, you can clearly see: angel dust, sir pentious, possibly husk in the bottom left corner, and nifty in the bottom right corner inside the black sploch. You can also see baxter (an unreleased charcter) in the top left above sir pentious. With faded black (demons?) Covering them, (I'll get back to that). Possibly attempting to reach heaven. Third, you can see what i assume is satan and lucifer at 0:20, what i believe are condemning a soul to hell. You can also see the angels decending to hell for the extermination. And that seems to be most of the stuff i noticed. Though there are a few smaller details that caught my eye. First off, remember the faded black covering the main cast? I noticed there's another character that shares these properties. at 0:20 you can lucifer appear, then satan soon after infont of him. In faded black. So this could potentially mean that satan may hold the cast back from redemption and reaching heaven sometime in the future of the show. Another thing i noticed is that at 0:52 the angel in the center may potentially be an archangel with their bigger and colored wings, front and center of the shot, the fact that they actually have hands. And one last thing, in case anyone is wondering what all the eye imagery in the backround is. When demons are slain by an angels weapon their essence fuses in with hells infrastructure, giving it features such as eyes, teeth and full mouths. Hence all the eye imagery. So those are all the things i noticed here so if anyone notices anything i missed feel free to let me know.
@Mark Duran but I'm not done yet, first off you can see curtains opening at the very beginning which reinforces the theory that hell is supposed to resemble one giant circus. Secondly, at 0:28 you can see the exterminators descending to hell which appears to have buildings rotating in opposite directions while the angels do the same, this may explain how the seven rings of hell work, while possibly implying that angels do indeed go to and can exist in the other rings of hell while earthborn sinners cannot. Third, the eye imagery may also describe God's all seeing eyes, especially with the scene at 0:44 with what may be god watching over earth. You can also barely see what appears to be lucifer in the far back at 1:34 sitting on a chair with an apple cain. Well that's all i have for now, but there will most likely be more hints at the future of the show with more information coming out from helluva boss and the livestreams. So it's a matter of time :)
The eyes are most likely Roo, the original sin, watching everything. Her eyeing earth shown in this intro is because she brings all sin and evil among the humans.
I can't help but cry over this. It makes feel for Charlie when she is sad. 😢 My own version being: "What Did I Do Wrong?" Lyrics "When I was just a little girl, I want to do something for the world. But I've realized I have only dreamed, even though it's not what it seems. Why do I feel nothing but shame? What makes me feel like I'm a blame? This makes me feel so bad. I wish to doing something glad. What did I do wrong? While I do something good, It's like no thinks I could. To me, this doesn't go along. What did I do wrong? Was it something that I did bad What makes me think it's just a fad? This was just a bad thing all along. Now all that I just have is nothing, I need to do something. This wasn't what I planned. It's like I've been banned. What did I do wrong? I want to just move on. What did I do wrong? Why is everything I have all gone? This isn't what I expected. But I have to learn to accept it. Why can't I do the right, Whenever it's the day or night? Why is everything now gone? Please just let me be. Can't you all already see, What did I do wrong?" I realized something at the beginning, everyone draws fan art depicting that Lucifer is such a good parent but realistically he really isn't. In the part where Charlie is calling her mom she says "I think Dad was right" and at the beginning of this opening a shadow of her father is over her, while she is singing about being a failure. He is meant to be deceiving so he may look like he cares for charlie but he really doesn't.

I love this intro it gives an eerie vibe and i love how menacing it feels and then we get to see the aftermath of the exterminations with debri and corpses everywhere and once charlie signals that the extermination is over everyone is just used to it showing how the camera man of the vees just shoves the corpse off his railing to have a smokr,carmilla opening up her curtain looking at the sky,the vees just chiling with valentino texting angel dust and how Carmilla daughers collecting weaponary left behind as Rosie marks off a name off her sign,the rest of hell residents collecting corpses or just going back to there normal life and then there Charlie who is absolutely devastated as she looks at the clock in anger judging by her eyes shifting as the camera slowly rises up showing that the clock went from 0 days to 365 days and it shows the title card showing it world with no dialogue with just Charlie singing sadly and i like how her lyrics match up with the most of the episodes if intentional or not.

About the bloodstained angels, Lucifer probably made and hid them in heaven, like when he was gearing up his angels for his rebellion, to serve as his wolves in sheep’s clothing, with a sticky note on them saying “Use when Hell is overpopulated.” And yet God realized the purpose of those angels, to kill the good and bad alike in sight, like they’re robots programmed for mindless slaughter, being something completely and utterly against God’s wishes.

Damn, I felt that hard... My favorite part of the song! Elsie Lovelock(Charlie's singing VA) did a good job putting raw emotions in this intro, I was hook immediately from the start.
There's something interesting about how the melody changes at 0:22 that i just can't put into words.
It goes from a sub minor to a sub major, it's a very basic key change. But it is still in my opinion one of the most beautiful, when executed correctly

Lucifer was so clingy, he literally drained the relationship between him and his daughter to where she questions what life is anymore. For so many years, Charlie had to endure the slaughter of these souls while Lucifer always told her that it was “natural” and that they “shouldn’t intervene.” But here Charlotte is, not holding back anymore. She thinks she found her destiny, her goal in life that doesn’t include being the little plaything of her parents. She’s becoming more and more distant and Lucifer doesn’t want that. He likes having her naive, otherwise everything he worked so hard to build, would perish. This is because they have polar opposite motivations. Lucifer wants to bring the fall of man, while Charlie wants to redeem all the human sinners in Hell that are willing to change. She would be undoing all of his progress if her hotel was a success and that’s why he talks her down. He doesn’t want that. He deliberately tries to make the situation seem hopeless for everyone around him. It’s likely he knows redemption is possible but is desperately trying to hide any evidence that shows it so this doesn’t happen.

someone asked why she keeps singing about rainbows in the comments and i constructed and entire paragraph with symbolism, metaphors and everything explaining the rainbow talk it was too beautiful and took too long not to repost it by itself so more people will actually see it. so here you go:
based on the visuals and lyrics for the song in the pilot it can be interpreted as "at the end of the rainbow there is happiness" (aka literal possibility of rays of sun fracturing into rainbows that slip down from heaven through the clouds. or a more metaphorical meaning: realistically there's nothing at the end of a rainbow. Rainbows Irl/on earth have technically no end. Therefore, this line insinuates that she's looking for happiness; possibly happiness that doesn't exist or looking for a kind of happiness that's an illusion/ the illusion of happiness.)
later in the song she sings "im always chasing rainbows" meaning Shes chasing happiness as she earlier-ly stated at the end of the rainbow is happiness or metaphorically rainbows tend to represent fun and happiness insinuating that Shes chasing those ideals.
in conclusion the reason she sings so much about rainbows is because they represent heaven and happiness; both of which her life 'lacks' ,at least when she sings this song, and she's been told 'ideal' stories about both heaven and happiness, which led her to 'wish' on/for rainbows because she doesn't have that.
its actually really said in my opinion; she didn't get time on earth because she's hell born therefore even though Shes (objectively) a good person she's still 'doomed' to hell and to 'suffering' forever even though she really didn't do anything to deserve to be there, she was punished for her parents' sins. and no matter how hard she tries to make things better; nothing ever seems to work because she has to 'live' up to the standards of literal angels. which presents as perfectionism and overwhelming optimism because of psychological issues like pressure of being the princess of hell for example.

I love Hazbin Hotel and Poor Charlie and I can see a Happier reprise version of I'm Always Chasing Rainbows as the Hazbin Hotel Series Finale with Charlie Vaggie and their friends now living on Earth after saving Hell Heaven and Earth from Roo and Lute and it would be a All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 and Little Nicky style ending.
Since we don't know much about Lucifer (Charlie's dad aka the King of hell) pause at 1:35 In the wayyyy back you can see a man sitting down in a chair holding a cain that looks like there's an apple on it (reference to adam and eve) In the wiki it shows Lucifer holding a cain that looks exactly like the one here.

Here are a few things i noticed while watching this.
First off you can see what i assume is lucifer/an angel falling from heaven at 0:07.
Second, i believe that the art of the characters when the camera pans down may foreshadow a few possible future events in the show. First, you can see several familiar faces here, from what i can tell, you can clearly see: angel dust, sir pentious, possibly husk in the bottom left corner, and nifty in the bottom right corner inside the black sploch. You can also see baxter (an unreleased charcter) in the top left above sir pentious. With faded black (demons?) Covering them, (I'll get back to that). Possibly attempting to reach heaven.
Third, you can see what i assume is satan and lucifer at 0:20, what i believe are condemning a soul to hell. You can also see the angels decending to hell for the extermination.
And that seems to be most of the stuff i noticed. Though there are a few smaller details that caught my eye.
First off, remember the faded black covering the main cast? I noticed there's another character that shares these properties. at 0:20 you can lucifer appear, then satan soon after infont of him. In faded black. So this could potentially mean that satan may hold the cast back from redemption and reaching heaven sometime in the future of the show.
Another thing i noticed is that at 0:52 the angel in the center may potentially be an archangel with their bigger and colored wings, front and center of the shot, the fact that they actually have hands.
And one last thing, in case anyone is wondering what all the eye imagery in the backround is. When demons are slain by an angels weapon their essence fuses in with hells infrastructure, giving it features such as eyes, teeth and full mouths. Hence all the eye imagery. So those are all the things i noticed here so if anyone notices anything i missed feel free to let me know.

@Mark Duran but I'm not done yet, first off you can see curtains opening at the very beginning which reinforces the theory that hell is supposed to resemble one giant circus.
Secondly, at 0:28 you can see the exterminators descending to hell which appears to have buildings rotating in opposite directions while the angels do the same, this may explain how the seven rings of hell work, while possibly implying that angels do indeed go to and can exist in the other rings of hell while earthborn sinners cannot.
Third, the eye imagery may also describe God's all seeing eyes, especially with the scene at 0:44 with what may be god watching over earth.
You can also barely see what appears to be lucifer in the far back at 1:34 sitting on a chair with an apple cain. Well that's all i have for now, but there will most likely be more hints at the future of the show with more information coming out from helluva boss and the livestreams. So it's a matter of time :)
