- On May 28, 1963, students and faculty from Tougaloo College staged a sit-in at the Woolworth's lunch counter in Jackson, Miss. Joan Trumpauer Mulholland recalls her initial role in the protest as a spotter, keeping an eye on events unfolding that day. She ultimately made her way into Woolworth's, taking a seat at the counter and tells of the violence that ensued.
Non violence works for people who have empathy. Those who lack empathy will become even more aggressive
It works when there’s reporting about it, especially with photos. When the depravity is on display, it becomes expensive, and their propaganda efforts fall flat, whether the perps have empathy or not.
I dont want to eat where I am not wanted. I would have just built my own restaurant and served who I wanted. The food would have been so good they would want integration, lol.
to be fair we (blk ppl) did have our own communites that were thriving but the other ppl didnt like that and damaged it
@@evesjeanz literal lies. Blcks always destroy their own communities. Even to this day. That’s why whte flight is a thing. Who wants to live among mrderers and thieves?
Things didn't really get better though. The country, to this day, is even more divided, more angry. No matter what, people still aren't united. It seems the real goal is to divide the country, so that a very few can benefit and become insanely rich.
My aunt Genevieve Houghton Hughes was an Original 13 Freedom Rider. She was on the bus to Birmingham when it was bombed. She was Secretary of CORE. John Lewis and Hank Thomas spoke fondly of her. She attended many of our family gatherings
Thanks for sharing this oral history story. Liked the story of the young photographer who changed sides as a result of witnessing the response to the sit-in.
Brave people. Thanks for sharing
2024 Thank God for our ancestors
