I’m sorry but one of the rules was “the killers motivation is always connected to something in the past”? Isn’t that the only way it could happen? How could their motivation for committing a crime be something that hasn’t happened yet?
There can be no motivation at all. The killer could be someone that just kills people randomly and at will. But that’s not what Scream is all about so I get your point
They should have made the new heroine and Sidney the killer. After all of the years of trauma she could have just snapped. That would have been a huge twist
I didn't even know who Jenna Ortega was. I loved her performance. The other characters I recognized from other shows. Clay from 13 reasons why, Ellie from YOU, Andrew from Love Victor, Huey from The Boys. They all did a great job and I should of saw the twist coming but I didn't.
@@JonJayAllDay Exactly. I loved her in the series YOU and she's awesome here and she's the first victim from the beginning of the movie to survive, which now I know was on purpose but still loved that she survived.
Definitely agree with the review. While I was watching the movie, I went along with it, but by the end of it, I wasn't feeling for it much. I didn't get out of the theater wanting more or even loving it. It was just meh. I think even Scream 4 was better than this and Scream 4 had more glaring issues, including the godawful dreamy filter (it least this one had better cinematography). If you think about it, Scream 4 already did the same thing. Trying to rehash the original. This one even had less screen time with the originals, to the point that you could take them all out and you would just have another season of the tv show. Of course, they had to include them, because then how would it sell? The villains and their motivations were meh. Even Scream 4 was a bit of a surprise. They should have taken a bit more chances with the final girl. SPOILERS: I think it would have been fantastic/ or at least something more fresh if the actual final girl would have been Tara (Jenna Ortega's character), not only did I like her performance more, but having the opening victim be the actual final girl would have been a fresh take not only on the Scream movies, but just in general in horror movies.
I’m still excited to see this movie tomorrow since I am a big fan of the Scream franchise. I don’t mind fan service or nostalgia references as long as it serves a purpose in the story and the Scream movies are all about references so I know what I’m getting into. At the very least, I hope I end up having a fun time, it’s not gonna come close to the original of course but we’ll see.
I was the I got it crowd. I'm a scream fanboy at my core. The movie sucked me off and tickled my balls. It felt like a goodbye to the hardcore fans. It let us know it was okay to say goodbye and move on. It's not a matter of being better than the first movie. They basically came out and said it's impossible to be better than that movie. The ending tied it all together. They showed their hand and everything made sense. The thesis of the movie was the ending.
Fortunately the main two girls (and Dewey) had enough humanity and charisma that I didn't hate it but had they not I think my eyes would have rolled right out of my head 🙄 At least the others are actually scary.
This movie is alright. Nothing spectacular or amazing like the others (barring 3), but it's an ok watch. I laughed at parts and was entertained until the killers were revealed. SPOILERS One of them I knew was coming, the other one didn't feel earned and built up. I'd have loved it if the niece was the mastermind of all the kills and she used the other two as subordinates....yes three killers. What motivation would I give her? She wants to show a requel done right, a true sequel that should be done correctly with a side of revenge on Hollywood and the original victims.
***Potential spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet*** Best Scream since part 2. Loved how many Easter eggs and callbacks there were to the first four and pop culture (Kevin Williamson writing Dawson's Creek, toxic fandom, John Carpenter, Wes' other movies , etc). It was also very meta which worked in its favor of not showing the series’ age. Jenna Ortega (Tara) and the actors who played the twins were the standouts in my opinion. I kind of saw who the killers were coming, but the approach they took was different so no harm there. I wasn't too convinced with the actress who played Sam though and if there are more sequels planned, I hope Jenna has a bigger role. Tara reminds me a lot of Sidney. 8/10.
I know I’m late to the party but I gotta say about this entry and the ones that came before it were essentially social satire about the film industry in general but disguised as the commentary about horror. Scream: The basic rules of horror Scream 2: dealt with ideas of sequels in horror. Scream 3: dealt with the “rarities” of trilogies in horror. Scream 4: dealt with horror remakes. Scream 5: dealt with the recent influx of “requels” Now Scream 6 I haven’t figured out what they were trying to commentate on, but it was still fun.
Scream 4 was the movie this wanted to be. That film was conceptualized by series creator Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven. This movie felt like thrown together fan film. David Arquette and the first would be victim was terrific.
I’d actually say the opposite. I think this was essentially what Scream 4 wanted to be. Scream 4’s take on remakes fell miserably short by virtue of the fact that Scream 4 wasn’t a remake. It was just another sequel. Scream 5 is a requel taking on requels, and it does it very well.
As soon as the killers went into their explanations I gave up. That shit ruined the movie for me and I wasn’t blown away up until then either. The visions of Loomis was silly as hell. When did Scream start doing that!?? I heard good reviews before I went to see it tonight so I was excited but now I’m wondering did I see a different movie lol
I work at a movie theater and nobody hasn't really showed up for the early screening. I'm sure that's gonna change over the weekend. We have a live Q&A tonight too.
Hated the apparition element. Would've been better if she just acted randomly creepy to show the connection. Also none of the kids at the party felt weird being in that house? It happened 25 years ago. Not in the 1700s. I did enjoy Mindy's reprisal. The new kids relationships were kind of blah with the exception of that one girl that suddenly seems weird af.
To tell you the truth the Wayne’s really made ghost face as famous as he is from scary movie to put a spin on the character like that was crazy back then
Who approved the script for this? I can't believe that Billy Loomis became the enabling ghost, all the scenes with the friends group were basically an homage to Scream 1 and the female killer was shot and burned and was still alive at the end.
I'm a scream fanatic and i was a little disappointed with this one. It wasn't terrible but it was far from clever. Definitely too meta for it's own good. If it wasn't for the legacy characters, it would have been boring. I hated the new cast. They were extremely boring. My 2 favorite scenes were the hospital scene and sheriff judy trying to reach her son in time. The killers were boring and their motive was stupid. Barely anyone died. They were incredibly sloppy they injured many people but assumed they were dead and left them to live. I appreciated it for what it was but i was let down. I wish they would have had one original death besides everyone getting stabbed. But i suppose nothing can top Tatum's death scene and the house explosion in part 3.
Pretty much what I got from this review is it's a Scream movie made strictly for Scream and Horror fans. Similar to how Ghostbusters Afterlife was made strictly for GB fans of the first 2 while going for a new generation as well. Movies made by fans for fans are what I want I couldn't care less if they are made for critics.
Just watched Scream (2022) last night and man! I loved it! Sidney was right, the killers were definitely more derivative than the past killers. They were more brutal.
I really enjoyed this movie for what it was, so I was worried you guys were gonna be inherently negative, but all your criticisms are valid and I agree! I guessed the killers right away, even though that’s not what it’s about, this movie just was anything but original. They think the girl surviving the opening is all they needed to do to make something great! It’s good, but definitely not great.
all these remakes and sequels are just making me think these movies are made just for nostalgic fanservice and not being anything new to the franchise.
When you realize Hugh Campbell is in Scream and you keep doubting it eventually finding out it was Hugh Campbell. When you think that's Tessa Thompson in Scream, sounds very much like her, looks enough like her, sounds enough like her but is kinda off. You find out it isn't her but wondering why she's a perfect facsimile.
I liked the new movie. Scream part 1 is the movie that got me into horror and is still the best of the 5 movies. To me from best worst is 1 > 2 > 5 > 4 > 3
I am a huge fan of the original "Scream," and I just watched this, and wow your opening line at the very beginning review nailed it. I think it was ok, another averagely decent sequel. I loved seeing the original cast members, but definitely wanted more, they were hardly in it! And I did not care for the newer cast. There was just no substance there, I don't know. The killer reveal...has been done before. As a big fan, not what I was hoping for. There was a hint that Sam would be the new Sidney, and I remember thinking if y'all are planning on doing this again with this new Sidney...that's ok. I won't be joining you. I'm getting off at this exit lol
I just saw it. Scream 5 will never sit at the same table as the first 4 Screams. NEVER EVER The kills and attacks were great but that trash ass motive…
Started strong quickly went downhill. As someone who grew up with these movies it was the worse one ,just my opinion. No charisma from the new girl, Tara was good and I kept wanting a twist from her character. Killers predictable right from the start. Just me thou.
Dude, I'm not gonna lie. I saw this twice opening weekend and I was totally THAT guy. Laughing at all the Easter eggs. LEMON SQUARES POST IT ON THE FRIDGE - HAHAHAHA! and no one else got it. I felt alone and like a loser at the same time lol. Anyway, I liked the movie. It's not better than the original or even 4, but it's good. It's the third best one.
I was hoping theyd make scream but kinda going at today’s horror tropes and bs instead of doing the typical slasher stuff from the 90s-2010s because at this point, pointing out those tropes is a trope within itself
Please please please review the classic comedy Rat Race (2001)! It's one of the few ensemble comedies that provide belly-laughs, both at the level of irony and genius comedy.
@@hamhockbeans I'm a fan of Scream and thought Scream 2022 was garbage. The killer made no sense. You really want me to believe the killer can out strength three people larger and more athletic than them. Ghostface might as well be super natural at this point. The new characters were not even established, so when they died I felt nothing. We follow the boring ass sister and I'm like can we go back to kids, I'm tired of following this storyline. And all the references and meta commentary were so poorly done.
Didn't the 4th one have a meta element, too? It opens with two girls getting killed at home, which turns out to be a movie, then the two girls watching said movie at home get killed, and it turns out that was also a movie, being watched by the main character, who then comments on how lame that is. 99% sure I'm thinking of Scream 4.
I just came out of the movie and I definitely liked it more than you guys did. I had a total blast with it and I actually liked the new cast, they may not be the most developed but the actors helped elevate it for me and their dynamic with each other. Plus it was great to see the legacy characters again. After this review, I was worried that it might rely too much on nostalgia and fan service, but I thought for the most part it walked a fine line, sometimes the meta-ness can be too much but I thought the fan service was used pretty well for the story so it didn’t bother me like it did you two. Honestly I would put it right behind like No Way Home in terms of the fan service. Speaking of which, I loved how handle the subject of toxic fandom, it helped added to it. I did have some problems with one story element surrounding Melissa Barrera’s character and some plot conveniences with some kills and the reveals were quite obvious but that’s it really. As a big fan of the franchise, I walked out very satisfied and had a good time and in terms of the legacy sequel/reboots or “requels”, I definitely think it’s one of the better ones and I like it more than the 2018 Halloween and it was great tribute to Wes Craven’s legacy. I would give it like a High Matinee/Low Full Price.
I really liked this movie, but the hospital scene was too unrealistic. I was really hoping Stu would come out alive and as the mastermind after getting out of jail. 😋
I love all the Scream movies. However, I do agree withpart three. Scream movies work when there’s long periods of time in between them, since they satire the new horror movie fad. That’s why Scream 4 worked so much for me. At the time it was torture porn. A.k.a. the Saw franchise. Which they satired. Part 3 didn’t have that sparkle. It felt shoehorned. But Part 2 worked by satirizing sequels.
Horr-ible movie!! Seriously! This is so bad! 😩🛑 The acting. The plot🤨🤔👎🏽. The OGs were totally unnecessary. The clumsiness of the killer. The ADHD commentary 😩. Like...why aren't neighbor's ever home or do they not see this elaborate costumed weirdo running around? A hospital with no doctors or nurses and an easily accessible control/power room? The "comedy"🥱. I was hopeful 🤷🏽♀️. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, UNLESS YOU LOVE STUPID MOVIES!
I loved it. Yes, I´m a Scream fan. But that´s the point. You don´t go to the cinema to watch a part 5 of a franchise without enjoying the previous ones a lot. It´s a movie made for us the fans, not for casual viewers. This is Endgame, Spiderman: No Way Home... You will not enjoy those movies if you don´t care so much about the rest of those franchises, not just the original. And with this I´m not saying that it´s only fanservice. I think this cast is better than in Scream 4. I loved the new lead, her sister, her boyfriend, Mindy... And the game of suspects is so much fun this time. They tried hard to surprise the viewer many times. And the murders were brutal, Ghostface was intimidating and the meta stuff was fun.
I believe that Korey's camera is a little bit off focus. It focuses on his mic not him. It happens in couple videos lately. By the way even Korey is blur I still have the same amazing experience LOL.
Great points made in this review, this easterhunt thing has got to stop in films it was fun for awhile but their actually taking over the films. And the comparison with the matrix is spot on these movies feel like they are now openly saying we don't know what we can give the fans that hasn't already been done but we should be at least patted on the back for acknowledging those things and hope you enjoy your nostalgic trip with a miner few superficial changes.
I agree completely but at the same time I don’t exactly envy Modern horror writers .. what plot shifts and devices haven’t we seen100s of times already?! What type of character haven’t we seen? I thought Scream 2022 was ok but at this point I’m pretty much numb to the horror genre and movies in general
Just got out of the theater and I’m split… I agree a lot with both of you guys. As a die hard scream fan who caught a lot of the Easter eggs I really enjoyed the movie but wasn’t blown Away like I hoped (it’s probably like my third favorite film), mostly due to the ending (I lowkey guessed the killer) that said I’d love to see a sequel perfecting what this movie laid out
Saw the movie opening night! An amazing continuation of this series The kills are still bloody, the humor still works, the meta commentary of recent horror remakes, sequels, reboots not being as good as the original is still reverent, there is also toxic fandom that affects Hollywood, they even make a funny joke about why this isn't called Scream 5 Plus the whole satire of continuing stories that shouldn't be finished and that Hollywood is fresh out of new material One death in particular really got to me I didn't find the score by Bryan Tyler all that memorable, I miss Marco Beltrami’s music Who knows if this is the end for the main trio of actors and if they'll pass the torch? Moved by very fast for an hour and 54 min I love how they put in a lot of nostalgia for the first movie but still does its own thing Glad these new writers and directors try their best in honor of the late Wes Craven and what he started back in 1996
I have to complete disagree w/ Martin as I think the last half is the best half. I am Scream superfan so maybe that’s why I enjoyed it so much. Love you guys and always love the reviews

Pretty sure he liked several movies.
Not to get on a dark tone, but I was suicidal till I found this Chanel so thank you Korey and Martin. I love you.
They should have made the new heroine and Sidney the killer. After all of the years of trauma she could have just snapped. That would have been a huge twist
Now that would've been such a great twist...
I heard Jenna Ortega did pretty good in this, besides the legendary cast of characters, she's one of the reasons I wanna see this movie
She’s never been bad in anything that I’be seen her in.
She was awesome in this, like I felt so bad for her and she does more than I expected.
@@JonJayAllDay Exactly. I loved her in the series YOU and she's awesome here and she's the first victim from the beginning of the movie to survive, which now I know was on purpose but still loved that she survived.
@@JonJayAllDay Now I realized that Jenna is the girl from YOU. I feel dumb lol
I thought that while being less great then Scream 1 overall, the mystery and villain motivations were best in Scream 4 IMO.
Jill’s motive was so good and so relatable with the current clout,ig times.
1 and 2 are the best
@@MartyMcFly88 i liked the chase in 3 in the movie set. very clever.
It was good
I was the I got it crowd.
Man, I'm SO glad they didn't title this movie "5CREAM" :D
Five cream is the porn version.
Video starts at 12:15 lol

TY 😊
Fortunately the main two girls (and Dewey) had enough humanity and charisma that I didn't hate it but had they not I think my eyes would have rolled right out of my head 🙄
At least the others are actually scary.
This movie is alright. Nothing spectacular or amazing like the others (barring 3), but it's an ok watch. I laughed at parts and was entertained until the killers were revealed.
SPOILERS
One of them I knew was coming, the other one didn't feel earned and built up. I'd have loved it if the niece was the mastermind of all the kills and she used the other two as subordinates....yes three killers.
What motivation would I give her? She wants to show a requel done right, a true sequel that should be done correctly with a side of revenge on Hollywood and the original victims.
She still can be that person since she survived and hasn’t been outed since there will most likely be another movie or two
***Potential spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet***
Best Scream since part 2.
Scream: The basic rules of horror
Scream 2: dealt with ideas of sequels in horror.
Scream 3: dealt with the “rarities” of trilogies in horror.
Scream 4: dealt with horror remakes.
Scream 5: dealt with the recent influx of “requels”
Now Scream 6 I haven’t figured out what they were trying to commentate on, but it was still fun.
To tell you the truth the Wayne’s really made ghost face as famous as he is from scary movie to put a spin on the character like that was crazy back then
The killers were SUPER OBVIOUS, and they sucked.
Who approved the script for this? I can't believe that Billy Loomis became the enabling ghost, all the scenes with the friends group were basically an homage to Scream 1 and the female killer was shot and burned and was still alive at the end.
Korey is gonna need some lotion from all the chafing from sitting on the fence
🤣🤣🤣 He wants to be liked so much he can't make up his mind.
Ready or Not was a good movie with a different concept i had fun watching and rewatching this movie. Samara Weaving is a decent actress.
You gave yourself a name like that an have zero brain cells to go along with it.
@@griffith4434 I'm very intelligent and also when i do use my brain it's for more serious things then trolling on youtube.
How's Korey gonna criticize the movie the whole video and then turn around and say he doesn't fault Martin for not liking it?? Lmao 🤣🤣
Almost walked out...
The movie is so self-aware it stops being aware
It would have been legendary if Dante hicks from clerks popped up in this movie and we found out he had Wes with Judy lol
haha yes yes lol
Pretty much what I got from this review is it's a Scream movie made strictly for Scream and Horror fans. Similar to how Ghostbusters Afterlife was made strictly for GB fans of the first 2 while going for a new generation as well. Movies made by fans for fans are what I want I couldn't care less if they are made for critics.
It’s super good. Nice Ash pfp btw

@@hamhockbeans what’s not to like bro movie was badass
It's the fifth film of a single narrative franchise; of course it's gunna be geared toward the fans, and it's great. The film is brutal
The way Korey hamfisted that diet smoke ad into the review 😆
Just watched Scream (2022) last night and man! I loved it! Sidney was right, the killers were definitely more derivative than the past killers. They were more brutal.
I figured out who it was just by thinking who can overpower others because this Ghostface was physical.
I kinda knew who the killer was soon as I heard a few sentences from her or him
I really enjoyed this movie for what it was, so I was worried you guys were gonna be inherently negative, but all your criticisms are valid and I agree!
To me from best worst is 1 > 2 > 5 > 4 > 3
Watched this last night. I give it a 6.75. I was hoping Tara would become the new Sydney type character going forward.
NEVER EVER
The kills and attacks were great but that trash ass motive…
We gonna act like Scream 3 wasn't absolutely ridiculous? haha
Lmao. It was a great motive
Agree. The third act was terrible and the motive was lame af.
Started strong quickly went downhill. As someone who grew up with these movies it was the worse one ,just my opinion. No charisma from the new girl, Tara was good and I kept wanting a twist from her character. Killers predictable right from the start. Just me thou.
To me the best sequel to scream was actually the first scary movie.
Scary movie is shit
Meta humor should end after this. Too many tv shows think they're being clever for simply being meta
Jeremy Johns gave this movie a lot of praise so I’m exited to see it.

This was a good sequel, but Scream 4 was better.
To me the new one is a better Scream 4
These nerds sound like Jamie Kennedy's character who they never figured out how to bring him back and that's still a crime 😆
This movie doesn’t deserve a dedication to Wes Craven
I was hoping theyd make scream but kinda going at today’s horror tropes and bs instead of doing the typical slasher stuff from the 90s-2010s because at this point, pointing out those tropes is a trope within itself

That good that you the fans enjoy it. Movies are suppose to be for the fans and not the critics anyway.
@@hamhockbeans Exactly
@@hamhockbeans I'm a fan of Scream and thought Scream 2022 was garbage. The killer made no sense. You really want me to believe the killer can out strength three people larger and more athletic than them. Ghostface might as well be super natural at this point. The new characters were not even established, so when they died I felt nothing. We follow the boring ass sister and I'm like can we go back to kids, I'm tired of following this storyline. And all the references and meta commentary were so poorly done.
10 out of 10? You are out of your mind. It wasn’t a bad movie by any means but nowhere close to being a 10 which basically means perfection
Yes. Scream 4 is what you're thinking.

I was that guy in the theater. Every reference I was like, got it. Nice callback
Smooth transition to Advertising! 👏👏👏
I think you guys are pretty on point with the majority of your criticisms.
This is the most I've agreed with a DT review down to exact thoughts I had in the theatre lol.
Horr-ible movie!! Seriously! This is so bad! 😩🛑
The acting. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, UNLESS YOU LOVE STUPID MOVIES!
all could have been avoided if Stab1-7 had the 'don't try this at home' warning
I've gotta disagree with the critique of the new matrix. It wasn't just shameless nostalgia it was woven into the plot in a way that made sense.
Exactly
I saw it last night and enjoyed it. I figured out one killer quickly but was unsure about the second
I believe that Korey's camera is a little bit off focus. It focuses on his mic not him. It happens in couple videos lately. By the way even Korey is blur I still have the same amazing experience LOL.
This movie, and I just got done seeing it. Was trash sadly and it disappointed me. Damn I hoped it'd be good man. 5/10

Amber (the Female Killer) was Pretty Hot IMHO!
I agree completely but at the same time I don’t exactly envy

Kinda stunned by this one…
I loved it :)
An amazing continuation of this series
The kills are still bloody, the humor still works, the meta commentary of recent horror remakes, sequels, reboots not being as good as the original is still reverent, there is also toxic fandom that affects Hollywood, they even make a funny joke about why this isn't called Scream 5
Plus the whole satire of continuing stories that shouldn't be finished and that Hollywood is fresh out of new material
One death in particular really got to me
I didn't find the score by Bryan Tyler all that memorable, I miss Marco Beltrami’s music
Who knows if this is the end for the main trio of actors and if they'll pass the torch?
Moved by very fast for an hour and 54 min
I love how they put in a lot of nostalgia for the first movie but still does its own thing
Glad these new writers and directors try their best in honor of the late Wes Craven and what he started back in 1996
You must be the only one that think this movie is good cause this movie suck
I have to complete disagree w/ Martin as I think the last half is the best half. I am Scream superfan so maybe that’s why I enjoyed it so much. Love you guys and always love the reviews
