i did the hike from tegernsee to schliersee years ago. it was one of my best hiking experience. always go back to tegernsee. it is my second fav. after königsee. allgäu in my opinion is still the best bavarian alps region. Town of Oberstdorf is such a gem.
These day trips look amazing! I thought Madrid has plenty of fun day trips, but it seems like Munich has so many more. I especially love all the mountains 😍 Can't wait to visit!
Thank you for your content. My wife and I are heading to Bavaria in August and plan on using some of your ideas to make our trip more enjoyable. I appreciate you two!
Another fantastic video. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. We did a few of your recommendations from the Munich Food Tour when we were in Munich last December, and they were fantastic. Now we are looking forward to some of the hikes you have done, and we'll be back out in August. Maybe a video of your favorite mountain huts would help us figure out which one to go to!
My wife and I are taking our first trip to Germany in a few days, concluding in Munich next week. This is a rad video with some great recommendations on locations that are off the beaten path. Stay awesome. Prost!
Great recommendations! Hohenfreyberg took over 200 years to build, then only 60 years after it was finished, it burned down and they never rebuilt it! Imagine spending 200 years building something then only 2 generations later it's all gone! 😮
Going Munich in September first time can’t wait but I am already overwhelmed by all these day trips , only have one week and can’t decide which day trips to take !
Im doing a trip to Munich in July and am super stoked! it will also be my first trip to Europe. Incredible video! it has only made the wait more unbearable
Hey, thanks for this video! I just came back from a trip in Bavaria. I saw your video and I decided to do your suggestions of Walchensee and Eisenberg ruins. They were both awesome! And I have some suggestions to add to anyone who thinks about doing them and likes to hike. So When I did Eisenberg and Hohenfreyberg ruins, I started the day quite early (started the hike at around 9:30), so I finished with the ruins by 12. After lunch I hiked to lake Weissensee (very easy to navigate, there are signs everywhere and you can get a map at Eisenberg tourist information). It's around 1 and a half hours hike, and it's very well worth it. After that I hiked for around 2 hours more through lakes Alatsee, Obersee and Mittersee and the waterfall of the river Lech back to Fussen. It wasn't an easy day, but if you like hiking, see ruins, great views and great lakes, it's a very recommended day in my opinion. About Walchensee, if you are in good shape I highly recommend climbing up that mountain! The trail is not easy, but it's very rewarding and fun. After I finished the hike I ate at the restaurant on the top and took the cable car down, Then I took a bus to Klais and hiked around lakes Barmsee, Grubsee and Wagenbruchsee (yes I really like lakes), it is also very much worth it in my opinion, especially Wagenbruchsee, I think it was my favourite place in Bavaria. Have fun!
Wow. I am very impressed! I do not know if we could do some of those all in one day, but we will try them out! Haven't seen Weissensee yet or even heard of the others!
Wow buddy , I'm so glad I came across your channel. I will be hitting some of these places next year when my buddies and I do our biking and hiking trip to Germany and Austria. Thanks for putting this video together. All the best
Fantastic video. Day trips look really amazing. So many more things can be done in Munich than I have expected. Thank you for creating an amazing video.
Great Vid!... I must admit, the Weltenburger Dunkel is the best tasting beer out there. As an Aussie living in Germany, I was fascinated by the fact that they were making beer at the Klosterbrauerei more than 700 years before the British landed in Oz.
I live near Schliersee, and I much prefer it to Tegernsee. It is smaller, calmer, and the scenery is reminiscent of a fjord. You can cycle around it in an hour's time and stop at the Rixner Alm on the western lakeside for refreshments. There are many places to take a dip. I love it most when the sun is setting. If someone comes past SUP-paddling, I feel removed to the Wild West with an Indian paddling by. All in all Schliersee is less touristy and more laid back than Tegernsee.
Next Schliersee there is a lovely church in Birkenstein in the comune of Fischbachau and one kilometer from Fischbachau there is the cafe Winklstüberl with great sweet cakes and a great coffee granmills collection.
I agree. It's my (Camille) favorite. We actually have a video on it from two years ago. We went back and forth about including it, but it's definitely going to be featured in a Bavarian lake list video we have in the works.
Nice videos and with a good taste as well and with some gems as well. I wonder if I have a gem for you still.. say, have you been to Kloster Reuthberg and Kirchsee? They have their own beer and the lake is stunning as well..
Another great video! I have a few of these places on my itinerary for September. Do you ever offer guided tours? I'll be in Munich for Oktoberfest and would love a local perspective.

We did not have enough time to do much this trip but hope to get back for Christkindlmarkt!! I’m sad we did not get out to the Lake District this time. LOVE your videos! I've been to Tegernsee so many times this year by using the 9 Euro ticket. I love your channel so much. Greetings from Fürstenfeldbruck (located 32 kilometres west of Munich).
Thanks you very much for this video. Bayern is my favorite place for holidays. I don't know all citys in the video. I return often at the same places (München, Berstchtesgaden with the konigsee, mountains...). You don't speak about Chiemsee, with 2 islands (Frauenchiemsee and Herrenchiemsee, with the Louis II's castel inspired by the chateau of Versailles). It's very exciting, beautiful... And i love theirs traditional clothings (dirndl and lederhose)! I love Bayern!

Thanks! We have never experienced outages, but we do get to the train 30 minutes early on nice days, as the seats always fill up. Definitely experienced summer crowds at Tegernsee, but not Schliersee.
Were did a day trip to do the Zugspitz and it was closed! One of the two days of the year it's closed for maintenance! I was gutted, it was the number one on my list. The tourist office suggested we take the bus to the Wank resort and ride the gondola to the top of the mountain there. It was a wonderful runner up prize! Beautiful views in all directions and a nice beer hall on the very top for lunch. We ended up going to where the locals go to camp and to hike and it was well worth it.

The weather in September is really nice. Idk about places to stay in the area tho. We stayed in Mittenwald and then took the bus, but I’m sure staying is Kochel or Walchensee would be fine too. They are all connected by bus
I'm soooo torn.... Heading to Munich next summer. I was there roughly 20 years ago and have wanted to return ever since. Now I'll get to show my wife and kids. We're staying for 3 nights and I'm so torn between Weltenburg Abbey, Tegernsee, Mittenwald, Partnachlamm or Neuschwanstein for a little hiking and some views for a day trip. My kids are 11 and 13 and they've done some hiking before but nothing too crazy. I want everyone to get a good authentic experience for 1 day. What say you?
If you have a car, then do Weltenburg hands down, if you wake up early you can even stop by Regensburg for dinner. Tegernsee is a great option by train, though the hike might be too much. Not wanting to be out all day will be a bit of a problem as all of those things take a full day to experience though. Camille and I do also offer proper itinerary checks on our website if you need even more help though, as we are always happy to give as much advice as we can. www.thatch.co/guide/2f8vrmaf0az7f/edit
The video was great! However, we Kindly invite you to the America continent where you can find even more stunning mountains than those found in Germany. Cheers
I've been to so many of these when I was growing up in München although some are additions since that time period. Going back to Germany for the first in 31 years this May with my wife and kid, I took them to some of my favorite places (which closely correspond to some of your videos). Also, thanks for the strawberry picking video, we just had to do that, and it was a blast (and very yummy). Question: why haven't you done more videos in the immediate area around München? For instance, Starnbergersee or Ebersberger wildpark. May I recommend the hike between Starnberger see and the Ammersee that takes you to Klöster Andechs (really good beer and food).
Thanks so much! Glad the videos align with your childhood. 😭 We have so many videos planned. We went to Andechs last summer and I am currently sitting on the train coming back from Starnberg. We want to make videos on both, but the process takes a really long time. Hopefully you’ll see these videos soon! We have a lot of videos in the editing bay 😅
@@NearFromHome we're excited to see them. We love all your videos. We stayed in Starnberg our last two days in Germany. We even took the three-hour boat tour around the lake like a pair of pensioners.
Nice, well-informed selection. I am from Munich and I knew the first five, quite well actually, but not number six. Some additional recommendations: Regensburg, Landshut, Scheyarn, Dachauer Land (Altomuenster, Markt Indersdorf), Diessen/Ammersee, Spitzingsee, Wasserburg, and my personal favorite: Kloster Seeon.
Thanks so much! I'm always worried locals will find this list too easy hahaha. We have been to many of those places, but still want to check out some others! Loved Landshut, Spitzingsee, and Diessen. We are specifically interested in checking out Wasserburg and Kloster Seeon. :D
Nice list. But was never too fond of Tegernsee. Way too many houses are surrounding the lake and the mountains are quite low. I am more of an Eibsee, Ferchensee or Königssee type of guy. Also Zugspitze and Nebelhorn (crazy views of the high Alps) would probably be on my list.
Thanks! Ben and I always argue about Tegernsee. He loves it, and I am very "meh" about it. Love Eibsee, and have never been to Ferchensee. We visited Königsee once, and found it beautiful, but waaaaay too crowded.
@@NearFromHome Yes, crowds are a problem at Königssee. I only go there on regular workdays, never on weekends or holidays. And of course, also beautiful Ramsau and Hintersee are just around the corner. Ferchensee is a nice little hike from Mittenwald. It seems you like "not-too-difficult" hikes with a great view. As a day trip from Munich, you should check out the ridge hike from the top of the Fellhorn via Schlappoldkopf and Alpe Schlappold to the middle station of the Fellhorn cable car (Tour details: 250m up, 400m down, 4.5km length).
A PS… twenty years ago we went to St.Leonhardt, just outside of Salzburg. We took a cable car all the way up the mountain and had Kaiser Karl Beer…The sleeping man in the mountain. We still talk about it! It was incredible! We did not have time to go up again on our quick visit two weeks ago, although we passed St.Leonhardt in the bus on our way to Berchtesgaden. We are here all melancholy, wishing we could just go straight back.
To really appreciate these places one should spend a night in these places if not more? You lose a lot of time traveling from Munich somewhat especially if you are using the after 9 AM DB train Bavaria Pass. All good just the same 😊
Maybe? It’s up to the traveler really. This video simply highlights many great trips that can be accomplished in a day from Munich. I’m not saying to do them back to back to back.
Servus. I enjoy your videos. They are well conceived, shot and edited. You and your wife are engaging and likable. But in the spirit of constructive criticism, you are more and more veering into a narrative style that seems breathlessly overwrought. Slow down and calm down; show more and "tell" less. Or at least with less scripted and practiced excitement. You are truly a talented writer and narrator but you are leaning into that talent too obviously and heavily. Less will be more.
You should have added those video links in the description box, had to search a lot for those and its frustrating. Great content, but only not subscribing because of this.
i adored your channel. still i think you do a great job. but you should not rip us off. this is so awful. ben, we love you being this person, but i hate you deeply to do this. it is no choice to answer, now.

We still talk about it! It was incredible! We did not have time to go up again on our quick visit two weeks ago, although we passed St.Leonhardt in the bus on our way to Berchtesgaden. We are here all melancholy, wishing we could just go straight back.
Adding that to the list!
6. Salzburg > 5. Tegernsee > 4. Mittenwald > 3. Walchensee > 2. Weltenburg > 1. Eisenberg und Hohenfreyberg
Did you know them all?
Vielen Dank💘💘💘
🥰🥰🥰
Can RUclips tell us, WhatsApp the name of the cafe at tegernsee with that gratis cake and near Mittenwald with 5hat gratis kassüätzle?
What month of the year was this filmed?
Many times. April-September
It was just a beer advert!
It’s always just a beer advert! Welcome to Bavaria :D
warum ist da Salzburg. (Nicht Deutschland)
Es gibt vielen München Daytrips in Deutschland und Österreich!

You should have added those video links in the description box, had to search a lot for those and its frustrating. Great content, but only not subscribing because of this.
